New thread for Kondo addicts.

Sorry I can't do all the links that were on the top of thread 7.

You mean my shoe box/trunk? I bought it at an antique fair about ten years ago.

Cherrypi · 21/04/2015 12:21

Five bags of clothes in the salvation army bin this morning and one in our bin. Didn't buy a top I tried on as it wasn't joyous enough. Did get some shoes though.

educatingarti · 21/04/2015 12:46

Wow, great start Cherry! Still doing ordinary every-day tidy-ups and cleaning here, but may get onto something more Kondoish this afternoon! I probably need to re-read some of the book for more inspiration.

educatingarti · 21/04/2015 15:47

Actually abandoned ordinary housework to start to tackle the cupboard of dispair in the spare doom! Much needed as I recently bought a large and heavy tent and the only place it will actually fit is the bottom of this cupboard. So far have a half bin bag of rubbish for the bin, plus a box of 50 a6 ring binders that will go to church on Friday to be used by the youth groups.

LOads to do and may only a first run-through in terms of Kondoing - mainly because so many things have potential craft uses and therfore genuinely do bring joy, even though they also fill up cupboards!

AS I am still recovering from being ill, I may of course need to punctuate shory kondo sessions with sitting outside with a cup of tea!

Cherrypi · 21/04/2015 18:35

More sorting. I have a floor to my wardrobe. Another five bags to charity tomorrow and three rubbish bags. Two more suitcases to sort that are in the loft and I'll have finished clothes. Need to stop for a bit as the bin is full and not emptied till Monday.

prettymess · 21/04/2015 18:57

Didn't get to go the cupboard. We did DD's room. We fell out, but we got it done. She was so frustrated with the amount of stuff she had in such a small room. She said I keep giving her things and she doesn't have anywhere to put it. As I mentioned before, she grabs a lot of what I want to throw away. Anyway, it struck me that there's a bit in the book about dumping your discarded stuff on family members.

CycleChic · 21/04/2015 19:22

Pretty, I think that's why KonMari suggests sneaking your possessions out discreetly!

You all are an inspiration: tonight, I tackle my half finished projects, and maybe start in on something. Wish me luck!

prettymess · 21/04/2015 19:55

Good luck!

I started Kondoing when it was Easter holidays so she saw everything! :)

CycleChic · 22/04/2015 07:32

Haha, I can see how that would be tricky! thinks about all the costume jewellery that my 5yo dd claimed from my "no joy anymore" pile

I wound up doing my usual evening, and curled up in bed early with the computer. Maybe tonight, maybe this weekend I'll get to it.

JKSLtd · 22/04/2015 09:42

The house is a bombsite. Birthday presents have no home. And I'm fed up with pil being house guests.

I'm taking a day off tomorrow when I shall have 6 blissful hours to myself and try and regain some sort of control of this place.
Fingers crossed.

Iqueen · 22/04/2015 09:44

prettymess Ah, I thought it looked small and had some built-in storage, but couldn't quite make it out. I have a stool, to hold slippers already, but I shall definitely look to swapping it if I find one like yours! Your stool looks as if it could be the same make as my dresser!

Just about ready to start today. Sad thing about age - takes at least an hour to get my mind and body 'going' in the mornings! Will be doing some chores and then I'll clear the last of my 'maybe' clothes and any remaining komono from my bedroom. Then, one of my daughter's wants my advice on planting the woodland area in her garden!

educatingarti · 22/04/2015 10:11

" Sad thing about age - takes at least an hour to get my mind and body 'going' in the mornings!"

Ohh IQueen - me too - glad I'm not the only one!

NotCitrus · 22/04/2015 10:24

Me too IQueen - though not sure they do even after an hour! I did school run and supermarket shop, got home at 10, now having Tea and a Nice Sit Down, because I'm so middle-aged... So need to finish emptying dishwasher, put shopping away, and couple local errands before any Kondo. Hope Emmaus or BHF will take our old dishwasher.

Iqueen · 22/04/2015 10:26

educatingarti Yep, mornings remind me that I'm on the 'home straight', although I'm still a young woman in my head! (That's why I come onto MN!) I would love to have my youthful body and stamina back, but I wouldn't swap the knowledge I've acquired from life! Grin

Iqueen · 22/04/2015 10:37

Ha ha, NotCitrus! When my Mum was middle-aged, she had 'a lie down' every afternoon. Not surprising, it was the 1950s' with no washing machine, coal fires, no fridge, TV, hair-dryer or vacuum cleaner etc! Grin Me? When I was the same age, I had two teenagers and 3 under-threes! (I reckon they kept me youthful - didn't have time to grow old then!) So I'm thinking that I'm doing pretty well, all in all. Just have to pace myself with some things! Brew

educatingarti · 22/04/2015 11:33

"I would love to have my youthful body and stamina back, but I wouldn't swap the knowledge I've acquired from life!"
Iqueen - That's exactly how I feel too.

  • you're not really are you? "her maj" I mean?
prettymess · 22/04/2015 15:46

Came home from work today and it just hit me how messy our house still is. I've been home for 10 days and I think I was blind to it. Bedroom and hallway look okay but the rest is dire Sad

BertieBotts · 22/04/2015 15:57

Oh, it takes me longer than an hour and I'm only 26 :( Blush

Zippidydoodah · 22/04/2015 20:24

Takes me at least three cups of tea as well as an hour!! I'm 34!

HermioneGrangerHair · 22/04/2015 20:35

prettymess - I was just about to tell you how inspiring I'm finding your posts, and especially the pictures! Don't give yourself such a hard time. MK says it takes six months to do this... You weren't really expecting it to be finished in a few weeks? Just keep chipping a at and it will get there.

arti - I don't think Iqueen is Her maj, judging by her last post. I don't think ER's mother was really troubled by not having a washing machine.

Jeez. Can you imagine having to wash everything by hand!!? Confused

thatstoast · 22/04/2015 21:12

Oh dear, after getting rid of about 80% of my clothes on Saturday my MIL turned up today and had bought me two tops from M&S. I couldn't hide the horror on my face. She knew I was de-cluttering my clothes so she must have assumed I needed to replace some old stuff. I told her I couldn't take them but I hope she's not offended.

I'm desperately trying not to 'tip off' my mother because she'll do exactly the same.

prettymess · 22/04/2015 22:15

Aww thanks! I sat in our bedroom for ages as it was so nice in there and felt much better. I also bought a label maker (!) and went through lots of paperwork. I did end up reading my old report cards from school for an hour!

Iqueen · 23/04/2015 09:50

Morning Girls

No, I'm not that queen! ROTFL and not quite so old! (I adopted the name when training as an ICT teacher.)

So, at an hour (or so) to 'get going' I'm not doing too badly, as you youngsters have the same problem. That's given me a boost. Cake

A bit of advice, from 'near the summit' - Do not save anything 'for best'!

Yesterday, after chores and grocery shopping and a sandwich lunch out, I had (another) go at the 'maybe' clothes pile. I discarded another half a sackful. Yay! Then I decided to do my shoes, stored, boxed, on a wardrobe shelf... 14 pairs. Not too bad by today's standards. But...

8 pairs of boots and shoes, brand new or worn once, that are too small! Plus, 2 pairs of similar espadrilles that have 'died in storage' - slightly foxed!

Feet often spread after PG, and certainly MP, when everything 'relaxes'! So, the goodies will have to be eBayed and the others chazzered.

I still have 2 pairs of ballerinas (ha ha ha ha!) that may have to go, if they prove uncomfortable!

Today, I have to research planting a Woodland area for one of my daughters! Hmm But, I'm also going to bag up my unneeded (already sorted) bed linen for the CS, and towels for the local kennels, and get the sacks into the car! Might do some more books too, because the stacks are really getting on my nerves. Way to go! Grin

Wishing everyone a good day!

JKSLtd · 23/04/2015 10:16

Morning Queenie Smile

So far kondoing on my day off has only involved cups of tea.

Bath then I'll get going. If left to my own speed it takes me a while to get going too. Normally have no choice in the matter through with school runs and early waking DC.

JKSLtd · 23/04/2015 12:43

Right have done dds wardrobe.
Lunch then the boys ones.
