HELP! How do I get Shoe Polish stain out of chinos?

Darling DS has been cleaning his shoes and has got black shoe polish on his camel-coloured chinos. What is the best way to remove it please?

Direct application of washing up liquid. Leave for 5 mins then launder as usual.
