Violetta, I'm doing okay, but I keep returning and doing things again. I don't think it's a problem, I think it just means that things happen in stages for me.

bring, re your relationship, I think people always stay longer than the should, or at least when they finally leave, they wonder why they didn't do it sooner. Do forgive yourself, after all you can't go back and change it.

I wondered about "The Life Changing Magic" in the book title when I first got it. But I am beginning to find it well chosen. As we shed belongings, our minds clear on so many levels.

I just finished a work task (on a Saturday night!) and I so want to do some kondoing, but I know it will keep me up all night, so I'm off to bed.

Bringme - Flowers that sounds hard going sorting through old clutter and memories. looking at each individual objects close up, if they don't evoke joy, they must evoke other emotions

Violettatrump · 17/01/2015 23:20

Miss yes I find it amazing how a second sweep of drawers/cupboards throws up even more clutter to be bagged up.

CoolCadbury · 17/01/2015 23:39

milkpudding you need to keep your P60 for 6 years. You only need to keep your wage slips for the current tax year and once you get your P60 for this tax year, you can shred the payslips.

upandawayy · 17/01/2015 23:42

gatorade we used to foster cats, mainly kittens actually, but hope you're ok. It's so hard when they leave even though you know that's what's going to happen. I used to find myself crying over litters of kittens and very sweet mum cats. Found my box of foster kitten stuff in the clear out but I've kondoed it to the animal shelter. I'll get new stuff if we foster again when the kids are older

Pointlessfan · 18/01/2015 07:35

I'm not sure I know where 6 years' worth of P60s might be. Worried now!

Violettatrump · 18/01/2015 08:41

Morning!

We have friends visiting today and normally we would have a crazy clean/tidy the night and morning before and it would put a dampener on things as we would be too rushed. Amazingly all I need to do this time is bleach the loos and make the beds

milkpudding · 18/01/2015 08:53
  • I'm now thinking if I can conquer this, I can do other things.

I love this quote. I have really felt dragged down in inertia with all my stuff.
DH is a natural KM. He is bemused by all her philosophocising, but has the same rationale to tidying. He doesn't believe I will stick to this, but I will.
I remember meeting a guy backpacking for a whole year with a bag the size of a small daytime rucksack. One spare t shirt and pants and soap to wash it each night, one jumper, shorts/ trousers convertible, shower gel, razor, sunscreen, notebook computer (with online books), valuables, flip flops for dirty bathrooms, sunglasses, hat, he was wearing trainers, camera, small travel towel. If anything broke he bought a replacement on the way. And there I was lugging around a huge overflowing heavy bag, I was literally weighed down by it. I loved that he could carry all his belongings comfortably, it gave him much more freedom.

milkpudding · 18/01/2015 08:56

Today I am going to carry on with nappies (in stages due to laundry), and do konomo- toiletries, make up, hopefully jewellery too. Should be lots to throw out.

Violettatrump · 18/01/2015 09:01

Milkpudding - that sounds amazing! Imagine being so free traveling. That will have to be my holiday aim because previously I always packed the car without even an inch to spare.

Violettatrump · 18/01/2015 09:08

Just to add that I'm dyslexic have always had clutter and a floordrobe. I'm shocked how life changing all this KM is. I've been able to have friends round without prior warning this week and all my house needs now is a quick tidy after cooking/playing instead of hours and hours and hours of trying to tidy

HiawathaDidntBotherTooMuch · 18/01/2015 09:12

milkpudding was he Jack Reacher? Smile

BriarRainbowshimmer · 18/01/2015 09:18

Have any of you read the zerowastehome blog?

Yes I just looked at it. The family is pretty extreme but there are good ideas even for less the devoted.

She says she uses cocoa powder for all sorts of things like eyebrow colour. I wonder how?

Enormouse · 18/01/2015 09:30

Hello. I've been lurking on the previous threads and finally got the courage to download the book and make a resolution to tackle the mess.

Dp and I are both students, going back in late jan, so we both have a lot of papers, books etc and desperately need to sort out work spaces. I also have two toddlers (3 and nearly 1) who have a ton of stuff. Poor DS2 is in the spare room/office/dump space and I want it sorted so he can have his own space.

I watched a few of the konmari videos on YouTube and thought they were great. I'll be making a start on the clothes today.

iknowimcoming · 18/01/2015 10:28

Morning! Got rid of nine sacks to the CS on Friday Grin I am also finding it very freeing even though I've not long started, I feel as if I actually have spare time to do stuff for me which is lovely. Another thing has become clear to me oddly, I always wish I wore skirts and dresses rather than jeans all the time and I feel cross with myself that I don't Sad. However having kondoed my clothes I've realised the reason I don't wear skirts and dresses is because I have no shoes to wear with them, I have loads of dressy evening shoes (which have only been worn once, haven't kondoed shoes yet but there will loads to get rid of) but nothing that I can comfortably wear in the daytime. I know that's a bit daft but it's been a real revelation to me and I am already on the lookout for some shoes that will bring me joy! Going to kondo the craft area today so that I can enjoy the free time I now have. Thanks for the infon p60s and payslips etc really useful!

Violettatrump · 18/01/2015 11:00

Iknow - I'm the same with skirts and dresses but it's the opposite way round for me - good footwear but joyless skirts

MILLYmo0se · 18/01/2015 11:11

oh iknow I'm a 'decent shoe-less' person too, have 1 pair of knee boots, a pair for work, couple of pairs of ballet flats for summer but nothing to wear now :( .
DD beginning drama class has made such a huge difference to our home life, I'm naturally NOT a clutter-bug but for the last 6 years between moving twice in a rush while either being heavily pregnant or having a toddler with a tummy bug, moving into the country and away from easy access to charity shops/collections, and then having DD with me 99% of the time I'm in the house meant nothing could be sorted and was shoved into wardrobes and cupboards . The amount of stuff that has left my house since Oct is amazing, and yesterday saw the last of the baby toys equipment/toys go . Was a bit emotional packing it into the boot but the space in the spare room is worth it a hundred times over !
My mum would have been distraught if she had seen me yesterday evening going through a box of stuff she had carefully saved for me, I think I saved 3 things out of it. All my baby cards etc are waiting for the recycling bin now - like what is the point of keeping these things ? I've never really understood it tbh. I would be classed a very sentimental person in a lot of ways ( very typical Cancerian :) ), and would spend a lot of time picking the 'right' card for an occasion and composing a message etc but Lord I hope people dont feel obliged to keep them ! These cards were all just 'congrats on the new baby' from relations and neighbours, most of them I don't have a clue who they even are/were, why keep them for nearly 40 years? I do have stuff kept for DD but not a pile of cards with no personal messages from random people .
I do wish I or someone I know was into making cards as I now have such a pile of lovely vintage cards that would make fab embellishments but oh well !

CoolCadbury · 18/01/2015 11:54

Yup, another no-decent-shoes here as well. I hate buying shoes and bras because I like to be comfortable, really comfortable especially at work but want a bit of style as well but can't seem to find any that fir both criteria. I have bought some lovely dresses in the sale but no shoes to wear with them. Sad

CoolCadbury · 18/01/2015 11:55

And I am another one who looks much better in dresses than in jeans, probably because I am so short.

MILLYmo0se · 18/01/2015 12:41

I'm all about the dresses too, mostly cos I can't co-ordinate clothes and don't have shoes/ankle boots etc :( . So it's dress, navy or black leggings on black knee-boots whenever I'm leaving the house and am not in uniform

ItIsntJustAPhase · 18/01/2015 12:43

These sorts of clothes dilemmas were why I ended up having a House of Colour makeover and following the style and beauty threads. I am NOT a shopaholic, I hated shopping and never understood the shoe fetish some women have. But now I know how to shop for clothes and accessories that suit me and bring me joy. Wonderful.

MILLYmo0se · 18/01/2015 12:48

I would love to do HOC, have no idea what suits my colouring I'm a bit of a mix. Tend to wear black everything, cos at least it all goes together , but I'm too pale for it really .

CoolCadbury · 18/01/2015 13:04

What was really noticeable about that link Gator did upthread (where the woman was de-cluttering her clothes) was what a difference the colour of the clothes made to her complexion. She went from looking radiant to positively sickly, depending on what colour she was wearing.

The other thing I noticed was how much stuff she had and she only de-cluttered a couple of carrier size full. Grin And is she a make-up artist because I thought her dressing room was a salon. Shock
