Gato FlowersWineCake

Ok so today I did a second sweep of DS1s clothes and my clothes. We now have two more tesco bags for the charity shop and have started dismantling my massive cupboard as we only need the drawers now. So that's two cupboards we have got rid of this week. Smile

I had a 'oh no I've over done the kondoing' moment cooking lunch today! Having charity shopped all my joyless pans, I didn't have a large pan to cook the rice in but then realised if I chucked the curry into the slow cooker, I could use the large curry pan for the rice. It's was really positive seeing the dilemma resolved with ease

Is is doable in small bits? I need little projects outside my work and DC to keep me mentally healthy.

Thank you Hermione . And Fizzy - good on you for seeing the therapist.

Violettatrump · 17/01/2015 19:03

Awful - yes! although for me it's taken over!

GatoradeMeBitch · 17/01/2015 19:06

Ah, ok. Confession - my friend offered to take all my 'reject' books away in her car today and drop them in at the charity shop. I panicked and said I needed to check them again Hmm She's coming back tomorrow so I will take her up on it!

milkpudding · 17/01/2015 19:08

Good first day today.
Two shelves heaving with clothes reduced to one shelf with nicely folded clothes. Well, the folding is quite scruffy actually, my first attempt. But a huge improvement.

Three drawers of socks and undies in a big jumble reduced to one drawer with rolled undies and socks and still space for more.

It's wonderful.

I've started on our cloth nappies. I had a huge messy pile and could never find the one I wanted. I had a plan to sell some on Facebook but haven't done anything for months. Basically when I was starting out with cloth I bought some second hand not realising they were in poor condition e.g. elastics gone, not things you notice if new to cloth. Now I've bought some nice new ones I don't use the poor condition ones. Had planned to sell on cheaply to recoup something. Many months later I think it is not worth the hassle. So I will give away, either locally or to Cloth Bank mentioned up thread. I will enjoy my nice nappies all the more when they are not in a messy heap. Those who use cloth will understand when I say that using pretty nappies is a pleasure!

pointless email M&S customer services, explain it was a lost wedding present, they may make an exception, M&S are often lovely.

CoolCadbury · 17/01/2015 19:32

Aw gatorade that is so nice of your friend and yes, take up her offer. Between now and tomorrow, you can give yourself space to let go of it. Remember to thank them as they leave the house and think about the joy they will give others and the lightness in your life. Smile

Pointlessfan · 17/01/2015 19:49

milkpudding that's a great idea, I'd better rescue it from the bin!

lockie1983 · 17/01/2015 20:06

You guys!!! It moves so fast in here.

There are thirteen people on the waiting list for the book from my local library. It might be you!

Iqueen · 17/01/2015 20:10

misscph1973
I have also read many of the parenting books that my mum gave me. But some of them just have titles that make me see red.*

I absolutely agree! Sad

The book I mentioned was the first 'child-centred' care book - prior to that babies were 'trained' to within an inch of their lives! Today, childcare seems to have become 'PhD level science', which makes mums feel inadequate from the moment of conception!

MrsMook · 17/01/2015 20:11

Cloth nappies are indeed a joy! I need to weed through mine as DS's needs have changed over time.

CaptainHolt · 17/01/2015 20:24

Finally got DH on board with kondoing his wardrobe. He had 60+ t-shirts ffs. I have 1 bag of rag, 3 for the charity shop and 1 for eBay and now he can fit his shoes in the bottom which clears up space in the understairs cupboard. He has asked me to help him do his underwear tomorrow and he is currently doing his 'office' which is a no go zone its so messy.

HermioneGrangerHair · 17/01/2015 20:36

Totally doable, mission! You just divide categories into subcategories. Eg clothes becomes socks; pants; t-shirts etc... Books become recipe books; novels; personal/professional development; reference or whatever... Then keep the same rules: finish one category before you move on to the next. It'll be gradual, but you'll notice that little improvement again and again... That's what keeps you going!

awfulomission · 17/01/2015 20:47

It sounds as though it becomes an entire way of thinking?

If this works for me (depressive dyspraxic) I think I could become evangelical. Grin

Thanks Hermione !

milkpudding · 17/01/2015 20:57

I am on a roll tonight, just did my paperwork. I did create an extra category though, as I have a professional exam coming up, and I can't just go back and sit through all those lectures again as KM suggests! But I have a full bin bag to recycle/ shred, hooray!

I know she says to chuck payslips, but I have always been told it is really important to keep them. Our payroll is hopeless so I couldn't rely on them if I ever needed the information after I'd thrown them. What have you all done? I did wonder about scanning them and destroying the paper copy, would that be sufficient?

Also I have P60s from previous jobs that all say DO NOT DESTROY across the top, so I didn't dare disobey!

Violettatrump · 17/01/2015 21:02

Ok now 4 bags for charity! DH has gone through his clothes for the first time.

Violettatrump · 17/01/2015 21:05

I've kept my p60's too.

misscph1973 · 17/01/2015 21:08

milk, I have electronic P60s, maybe you could ask for that going forward? I have kept the last 5 years only. regarding payslips, could you keep the last 3 years only? Or perhaps scan the 3 years leading up to the last 3 years?

I am beginning to think of my summer clothes. I have only kondoed my winter clothes (I know, it's bad!). I would love to not put winter / summer clothes away every autum/spring, I wonder if it's possible? My wardrobe is big, but I just love the current space - but perhaps the challenge is to kondo even more, so that I stilll have the space, even with summer and winter clothes?

Violettatrump · 17/01/2015 21:21

Miss - does all your remaining winter wardrobe give you joy?

I'm down to 4 drawers now I'm rid if anything joyless!! That's my complete wardrobe of underwear, jumpers, sports wear, tops, bottoms! I really must go clothes shopping!!

HermioneGrangerHair · 17/01/2015 21:22

Mission - depressive + dyspraxic + houseful of crap = nightmare

You can definitely fix one of these, and it's going to make dealing with the others a whole shitload easier. Smile

HermioneGrangerHair · 17/01/2015 21:26

Milk, what could you possibly need years of payslips for? Keep a year or two if you must, but pensionable earnings? Tax? NI contributions? All the info you need should be on your P60, right?

awfulomission · 17/01/2015 21:27

Here's hoping Hermione , thank you! I just inherited a cluttered classroom at work too so will have to start on that too!

Off to bed soon for a read of the book. It looks nice too.

misscph1973 · 17/01/2015 21:28

Violetta, no, but I am not very good at shopping (read: I don't want to spend the money and I resent spending the time), so whatever else I get rid of will probably not get replaced. But you are right - I can count 9 pairs of trousers/jeans from here, and that's without 2-3 pairs summer trousers. I have these favorite Gap jeans that are worn thin, but I still miss my favourite InWear coat that was worn thin, and got binned 3 years ago, so although I don't wear them, I am reluctant to get rid of them (my bum looks fab in them, but they are saggy at the knees).

Violettatrump · 17/01/2015 21:51

Miss - i hate clothes shopping too! How are you doing with other categories though?
