Mango - x-post but thanks :)) I have various cardboard boxes that I can use. I want each week's toys all in their own box. I'll never rotate if I have to pick out different combinations each time. I guess it could be shuffled every few months.

Glad your kitchen is bring you much joy Grin

Mine needs some attention. I didn't do everything last weekend and it shows!!

HermioneGrangerHair · 15/01/2015 18:13

Hubb - that's the difference between having to have a reason to get rid, and having to have a reason to keep - it's been a revelation to me :-)

bringme - I love your idea of shopping better. I have a bad habit of mindlessness in many aspects of my life. Last year I spent a month writing down every penny I spent... Saved a fortune, and realised how good shops are at talking us into a sense of need. Can't say I kept up the positive change completely, but I might do it again, periodically, as a reminder.

I did buy some extraneous LED bulbs today, thinking they'd be better than the old style energy savers we have in the sitting room. At least I was conscious of the irony as I was doing it.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 15/01/2015 18:14

Hubb - I put my first FB profile photo on last night and realised that I still have the top I was wearing in the photo and that I love it as much now as I did 8 years ago. However, the top was 4 years old when the photo was taken so is 12 years old Blush. I really love it but it has a few tiny holes in now Sad. It was so cheap, too.

homeaway · 15/01/2015 18:21

Oldest piece of clothing kept is. .....Drum roll ..... twenty four and a half years old ! Idon't wear it that often but it brings me joy.Smile .

HermioneGrangerHair · 15/01/2015 18:29

I have a pair of shoes (my school shoes) from 20 years ago. I still wear them sometimes. They were made for me - a very generous gift from my godmother. They bring me lots of joy!

Violettatrump · 15/01/2015 19:24

Kipple. I like that term! Grin

Well done girls, you're all very motivated!

I dropped a measly half a tescos bag of stuff at the chazza today. However I now given each family member an upright magazine storage container, the towels are now hung from new pegs in appropriate places and finally inspired by a storage solutions link here a few days ago all DS1's teddies are now hung

Grin yes DS suggested that it was animal cruelty when he first saw it but was secretly quite pleased with the result! The implement of torture is called an ikea 'komplement' and looks like lots if circles sewn together

HermioneGrangerHair · 15/01/2015 19:44

Thinking of reporting vinegar for animal cruelty...

misscph1973 · 15/01/2015 19:56

We have rabbits, and up untill Christmas we would burn all the used straw etc in a garden bonfire once a month, but it's been too wet, so the shed is full of bin bags with used straw. I am going to order a garden refuse bin, but it's £48 per year, so just waiting untill next month where there is no council tax to spread outgoings. Today I had to buy a big bale of hay as were were out, so the bin bags had to go to make space for it. I filled the car with the bin bags and went to the dump. And the dump was closed. Now I have a car that stinks of rabbit wee and poo!

I guiess the lesson is to prepare when you Kondo sh*t ;)

ItIsntJustAPhase · 15/01/2015 20:02

Ladies and gentlemen, I present the term impedimenta

Starface · 15/01/2015 20:04

No kondoing here. But my joyful new mugs arrived today so I was v happy drinking my tea.

Although you seem to have a solution, fir the record, another option for cloth nappies is cloth bank uk. They are on fb and make up packs of donated Nappies for families in need. They will mend knackered velcro etc. I will use them when I get there.

vinegarandbrownpaper · 15/01/2015 20:26

I thought Impedimentia was a lovely name.

GatoradeMeBitch · 15/01/2015 20:26

misscph1973 I had 'Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?' in my books to be donated pile. You just made me go and rescue it. I want to read it now!

misscph1973 · 15/01/2015 20:45

Gatorade, have you not read it? It's a SciFi classic, a crazy book, really paranoid, full of conspiracy theories, but also very philosophical. it's been 12 years since I last read it, but I don't think it's dated, I hope you enjoy it!

GatoradeMeBitch · 15/01/2015 21:08

I'm not a sci-fi reader usually, it was part of a Book People set I bought about 10 years ago and never read so it was about to be Kondoed, but you've made it sound so fascinating I've put it back on the shelves!

misscph1973 · 15/01/2015 21:20

Oh, I have saved a book from Kondo-doom ;)

Violettatrump · 15/01/2015 21:26

What sort of age would that book suit? DS is 12

I only have two boxes of impedimenta left to sort, then it's clothes rolling time Confused

Easily distracted though ... Just kondoed my Tupperware

whatsonyourplate · 15/01/2015 21:41

starface do you have a link for cloth bank UK? I've given away most of my reusables but still have a few to get rid of. Sorry just re-read and seen they are on Facebook, I'll go have a look.

lockie1983 · 15/01/2015 21:45

Do Androids Dream... Is an old favourite of mine. Studied it at uni (and am a bit of a sci fic lover on the quiet). Hope you enjoy it gatorade

vert I'm going to kondo the bag at the weekend. Haven't dared open it yet in case it creeps into real life ... Have heard there is a new pair of leather boots in there (the last pair she gave me have just died).

And my oldest top is uni time so ... About eleven years old? It was £3 from primark back before it got big and I still get compliments on it now.

milkpudding · 15/01/2015 22:11

I just read this thread and this method sounds perfect for our cluttered flat. I am a bit of a boarder,,this will be good for me.

First question.... our wardrobe has three big shelves inside and I currently leave all my clothes jumbled up on these shelves. There are no pull out drawers. How should I store my clothes on these shelves.

Welcome milkpudding! Well, the good news is that you don't have to worry about how to store the clothes at all until you've done the discarding. And the other good news is that shoeboxes work on shelves as well as they do in drawers!
