Thought I better set this up when I realised I had inadvertently posted the 999th post on thread 4! Shock

Yes I wondered if the carrots needed water too? I know some put celery in water.

Flingmoo · 13/01/2015 22:04

Hi all, I'm new to all this and haven't even acquired a copy of the book yet, was about to buy from Amazon an I asked DH if he would read it too so we'd both be on board. He said no and he also objected to me spending that much on a "stupid self help book". He trashed the whole idea and said he hates books like that. I feel really crap now. SadSadSad I could go ahead and buy it anyway but might just wait for a library copy to become available.

He is a much worse hoarder than me and I am getting really fed up with having to do a massive tidy up every fortnight before the cleaners come round (which we have only resorted to hiring due to not keeping on top of the housework with a young baby taking up all my time and DH not willing to take much housework on).

How am I supposed to do this if he's basically going to sabotage me through inaction?

Innocuoususername · 13/01/2015 22:07

Just checking in, hi to new Konverts!

Have skipped ahead to books as finishing clothes is proving difficult, DD is still sleeping in our room so I can't crack on in the evenings. Gatorade, I know what you mean about unread books. I had the same wobble today. But I was really honest with myself: I am not the same person who bought Don Quixote 15 years ago fully intending to read it. Realistically I haven't got the brain power or time at the moment, and I'm not likely to until the DCs have left homeGrin. So out it goes, with a bag of others in a similar vein. Pelican is right, if you keep passing books over to read something else it's not meant to be.

I had a another lightbulb moment with various craft books: I don't really have the time, space or energy for it at the moment. In the unlikely event that I do fancy doing something, I usually find a pattern online. So the majority of these went.

Still more to do on books though, I need to gather fiction all in one place to sort it really, but the clothes are still nagging at my conscience. MK says the order is there for a reason and there is definitely method to her madness!

Iqueen · 13/01/2015 22:09

Haha, Violettatrump! NO coincidence - you should see the applicator! rotfl

Violettatrump · 13/01/2015 22:09

I can post a link to Marie kondos top ten points if you like, if someone can tell me how to post a link? Those ten points are enough to carry you through the whole decluttering procedure.

Innocuoususername · 13/01/2015 22:11

Mamuska welcome. One of the reasons MK says to start with clothes is because they are yours alone, not shared household stuff. You will immediately get the benefits from that regardless of what your DH thinks.

Iqueen · 13/01/2015 22:12

Violettatrump Double square brackets around the URL.

HermioneGrangerHair · 13/01/2015 22:16

Mamushka, welcome. One of the things she talks about in the book is that you shouldn't get rid of other people's stuff, but seeing as you haven't read it, you should go right ahead and bin all your husband's favourite things. When he complains, you do your best angelic smile, and say "If only I had read the book first!"

misscph1973 Thanks for the good advice on fridge organisation and storage!

BrandNewIggi · 13/01/2015 22:18

Tonight my two over-flowing drawers containing socks and tights have magically transformed into one, not even full, drawer. And have got rid of about half a dozen from my large scarf collection!

Violettatrump · 13/01/2015 22:18

Iqueen im going to have to google anasol now! I have to view the applicator

Mamuskca. I recon your DH was so outraged by the book idea because you hit a sore spot. He knows its a problem

Violettatrump · 13/01/2015 22:22

Manuska I've seen this linked a few times but it has many of the main points psychologies.co.uk/self/10-tips-to-make-you-more-tidy-and-organised-now.html

Violettatrump · 13/01/2015 22:27

Looks tops JKS

Flingmoo · 13/01/2015 22:28

Thank you! I am still going to keep trying to grind him down win him over to this way of thinking!

JKSLtd · 13/01/2015 22:28

I can't see the photos or post the from the app. But I posted them though the mobile site so have to trust they are there!

I forgot the bottom drawer which has my pjs in.

It makes the dark gloomy colours obvious.
And I have too many bras so will need another sift.

And if I move the old drawers into a different wardrobe I'll move everything anyway.

But great joy every time I get dressed Smile

CoolCadbury · 13/01/2015 22:32

manuskca ignore your DH and get the book - agree with violetta you hit a sore spot there. Sad

Whilst waiting for the book, hermione has a page of links which will help to get started upthread (posted around 6 pm I think). And ignore his stuff, just concentrate on your own things, what you want to keep and get rid of. And you will get plenty of support here. Smile

CoolCadbury · 13/01/2015 22:35

JKS Lovely drawers (never thought I would be saying that to anyone Grin). BTW, I only have 3 bras - 2 everyday bra and 1 sports.

Violettatrump · 13/01/2015 22:36

Mamuska can you kondo all your stuff plus general household stuff without making an issue of it because it's quietly catching! My DH was initially uninterested but has started slowly kondoing bits and bobs.

JKSLtd · 13/01/2015 22:39

I only started with the intention of doing my stuff. Haven't had a chance to expand out yet but dh is def interested now.

The drawer photos were after all laundry done. So that's at maximum. I can def cut down more but wanted to move category and comeback.

Iqueen · 13/01/2015 22:52

CoolCadbury Have to mention, now I've caught you... I have also always organised my freezer drawers, by category. Filing stuff on edge sounds like a useful improvement, I could use too.

Iqueen · 13/01/2015 23:01

BTW, Violettatrump, is your DH aware that his haemorrhoids oops, piles are famous? Grin

PelicanBriefs · 13/01/2015 23:03

Ladies, I present to you, photographic evidence of upright carrots and egg-boxed onions (veg drawer removed from fridge for photo, to avoid dislocating everything trying to get a good shot):
