It's really frustrating being at work today - I'm mentally Kondoing my house from afar, just itching to get into a whole wardrobe of handbags I know I haven't used for years. And coats I used to love but haven't fit since pre-pregnancy. And going out tops from when I used to go out! I might buy more bin bags on the way home :)

daimbardiva · 31/12/2014 10:22

Thanks for this, determined to turn over a new leaf for 2015 and konmari the whole house...

inadaydream · 31/12/2014 10:24

themummyonthebus my knickers are all from primark or peacocks. I am quite strict about my pants in that I only buy ones that bring me joy - I did this anyway even before discovering MK!!

Woke up in my sparkly immaculate bedroom after sleeping like a log. DH was on the couch all evening watching sports so I tackled our room. Beggar all on tele so had nothing better to do really! It's spotless and beautiful as we bought stunning new bedding in the sales! It is now a room that brings me very much joy (and will bring me even more once I am run the Hoover round it Grin). DH came up to bed last night and nearly passed out in shock as it was a thorough tip!!

Looking forward to the new year for new start! Have a lovely day all, will check back later.

iknowimcoming · 31/12/2014 10:53

Am having to be sneaky with my kondoing whilst dh is around as he is very resistant in a - you'll chuck loads of stuff away then buy it all again - sort of way grrrr! But anyway did my pants and pjs last night whilst he was on ps2 heh heh! What a revelation, my pjs take up half a drawer now they took up two before! I'm so sad but I love it! I have caught up on sleep this holiday so when I lay in bed I think through stuff to bin, like I have this box with all birthday and Xmas cards in which I always keep, decided I'm only going to keep certain ones and use the extra room in the box for other sentimental stuff that I want to keep but is difficult to find a home for. Finished the book yesterday also, have a good day everyone x

JKSLtd · 31/12/2014 11:24

Omg I have started and love it!

I decided I would only put on a top that fit the criteria that meant I had to do the tops (apart from shirts/smart ones that I will hang anyway).
Then I decided I'd store the keepers in drawers so that meant I had to do pants.
(Nb I must buy more pants as I've chucked tonnes and want cheerful joyful ones instead of dull black!)

Now mid socks.

But am stuck on how to do them. Need to find the video link.

Countyourchickens · 31/12/2014 12:32

I have finished the clothes. I reckon its taken 6 hours and I I have chucked out as many bags. Today I sorted the airing cupboard which included all the school uniforms now sorted into a pile of trousers and tops for each day of the week per child. Tomorrows plan is to tackle the books and paperwork.

Countyourchickens · 31/12/2014 12:34

The best bit is I can see where the gaps are in my wardrobe. I need to buy some tops as I have loads of skirts and trousers and I need socks and trousers for DD. Contrary to what I thought DS definitely doesn't need PJs.

pullthecracker · 31/12/2014 12:53

On a roll now, underwear drawer and toy cupboard done! I've found about 15 odd socks!

HermioneGrangerHair · 31/12/2014 13:48

Feel like I just joined a party, so I brought a picture of ALL my tops and scarves in lieu of a bottle of booze...

Been ill over Christmas, failed to do any of the things I hoped to, so got up this morning, gave my clothes the full works, then went back to bed and slept for 3 hours while my husband lugged the stuff off to the charity shop. It wasn't awful to start with, but I still managed to axe about two thirds. Won't show the rest of the wardrobe yet, because it's still full of non-clothes shit, and frankly, that'll have to wait till the bin man's been!

Been interesting to read this thread (and some of the others) - fascinated to hear other people's ideas about guilt and waste tied up with their clutter. That really resonates with me. And I'm seeing more clearly than ever that not all sentimental attachment is about joy... I've just binned four pairs of jeans that had patches on patches on patches, because I didnt consider it worth me buying new clothes when I was so fat. And I've got rid of a bunch of stuff too small for me, because I'm no longer prepared to be squeezed out of my own wardrobe by some "better" version of me that I could be if I just lost weight.

Looking forward to keeping up with your progress. Aspiring to a cupboard like OnMyWhistle's!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 31/12/2014 13:58

May I join you please?!

I've just finished reading through this thread (will start on the others at some point!!) and feel so inspired by your achievements so far.

I downloaded the book a couple of days ago and have read a couple of chapters. I have made a start on my clothes. Yesterday, I sent 3 bags of clothes to the charity shop, 1 bag of clothes to a friend (not strictly allowed, sorry), 25 items listed on eBay (3 sold already!!), 1 bag of rags and 1 bag of rubbish.

Unfortunately, this has barely scratched the surface but it is definitely a step in the right direction.

This morning, I taught 12 years old DS how to fold his clothes...he looked like this -> Hmm but I will continue to nag-- encourage him and he will eventually get the hang of it Grin

He has given me permission to get rid of some of his Playmobil collection but that will have to wait until I have a couple of free days because there is a lot!! I was going to get him to sort through his soft toy collection but i think that might be too soon for him. I'm not a fan of them and have asked many times for them to be culled but he loves them all...he might have gone off them a bit now he's 12 and a half!!!!! I can see that some do give him great joy but there are a lot that just sit at the bottom of the true and never see the light of day.

I have an hour and a half left to do some more chucking/sorting but not quite sure where to go next Confused

Bobloblaw · 31/12/2014 14:48

I have just been through dd's clothes and I have 1 bag for a friend and 3 for clothes bank/charity shop. I thought I had sorted hers relatively recently too! All neatly folded and put away, looks lovely :)

I am going to tackle ds clothes now. We cleared 3 bags of recycling,1 rubbish and 2 charity shop of his toys/books yesterday.

Both rooms already look better and I feel brighter too.

Mereguemeringue · 31/12/2014 15:38

Kondoed my drawers and now actually have gaps!

educatingarti · 31/12/2014 15:47

Welcome to all newcomers! I was out nearly all day and evening yesterday but managed to drop a box of books off at the chazza on my way over to friends' house. Am now in the middle of doing the second large book case in living room. Not very motivated today but all your comments have helped.

I first came across the word "chazza" on the minimalist threads here. Think it may be a MN regional word!!

APlaceOnTheCouch · 31/12/2014 15:48

Yesterday I did the rest of DS' toys including his playroom (which tbf I rarely venture into as it's always so messy but he loves it!). Today between DS' toys and clothes, I took 7 bin bags to the charity shop and two large boxes. I've also got a bike and sit-on fire engine to take but I couldn't fit it all in the car. DH was laughing that I needed a van!

I finished the book last night and only now realise I was supposed to start with my own clothes - oops! I started with DS' clothes instead but I do regularly cull my own clothes so I don't think I'll have as much to KonMari . . .famous last words. I bet I'll have more clothes than I thought.

I'm loving the photos although slightly Xmas Shock that they appear on Google Images. That makes me more reluctant to post pics tbh.

Pointlessfan · 31/12/2014 15:52

Been at in-laws all day so nothing new done but I put away all the things we took with us eg. DD's toys as soon as we got back instead of leaving them lying around in a bag like the old, pre-Kondo me would have done so I feel that in itself is positive.

JKSLtd · 31/12/2014 16:24

Having a well earned sit down with bubbly Grin

Have done all of my clothes.
Did some hair stuff lotions etc. I don't wear any makeup and haven't done jewellery but did find a few bits to pass on/bin.

Have a big ikea bag overflowing for charity including some expensive dresses. I may ask around on fb first but tbh I'm keener to keep everything in one outgoing pile.

Also tonnes of hangers.

And a big bag of textile recycling shoes etc.

Am v pleased with my wardrobes but really wish we could afford to rip out the fitted monstrosities and get either sensible smaller fitted ones or nice antique ones to fit in the alcoves.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 31/12/2014 17:07

We have spring cleaned the whole house for NY, I have had such a shitty 2014 I am taking no chances with 2015- I want it as near to perfect as I can get it from the very start!

I also Kondoed DH's drawers, they look amazing and it made me see he doesn't need ANY more T shirts or socks, he has far far too many but they were all disorganised so he didn't know what he had. He has said he will go through and cull them - his socks are too numerous for the drawer even when folded neatly so its pretty urgent Imo.

I also did the place mat and napkin drawer which is now half empty and more paperwork which was burnt by DH in our fire bin outside.
Definitely lots more to do but it's been a great and productive day.

Anyway, house is clean and tidy and many if not all the drawers and cupboards are beautiful inside as well as outside Smile

Happy New Year all Smile

ItIsntJustAPhase · 31/12/2014 17:28

Decorations are down! I am feeling so inspired. I am just in chucking mood but can't do much as hoarder daughter is around. But I have plans. Mwa haha haha hahaha!

educatingarti · 31/12/2014 17:58

So the second bookcase has yielded:
a carrier bag and box of books (mainly) for the chazza;
another carrier bag of recycling;
a carrier bag of rubbish (that I had been faithfully storing on a bookcase!! - many videos and tapes that I will no longer use as I now don't have the wherewithal to play them);
a pile of old bank statements that still need to be shredded!
The living roon still looks a tip, but I know that so much stuff has gone out of it!

I have a feeling bookcases will be re-kondoed even more drastically at some point but it is good for now!!

I have about 30 mins or so before I need to get ready to go out! Maybe I'll do some shredding!

Pointlessfan · 31/12/2014 18:44

I'm so pleased I started the process pre-Xmas. It feels positive starting the new year tidier and hopefully the tidying will continue.
Just dusted, vacuumed and mopped which we normally do at the weekend but I wanted to start the new year with a fresh house.
Have a tidy, happy new year everyone! Smile

Pointlessfan · 31/12/2014 19:10

Just one question. How do I stop DH from emptying out his pockets onto the nearest flat surface? Fed up of picking up receipts from all over the house. Not receipts that we need to keep in a tidy place but receipts for things like a pint of milk. Grrr...

Violetta999 · 31/12/2014 19:56

Hectic mad day so no time for a long kondo sadly. However I did manage a sneaky 15 minute smash and grab - stuffed a full tesco carrier full of books and will deliver to charity shop this week.

Violetta999 · 31/12/2014 20:00

Ps happy new year

JKSLtd · 31/12/2014 20:26

I don't know how to stop your DH - unless you can create a picket-emotying place near the front door like someone else was describing?

I'm very happy with my clothes - I showed DS1 (8yrs) and he said they weren't good, they were 'majestic' - I think that's 8-yr-old speak for fabulous Grin

So I'm going to get on with theirs at some point - I think I might need a few shoe boxes though or stuff will just fall off their little shelves.

themummyonthebus · 31/12/2014 20:50

Hello everyone, happy and tidy new year Smile
