Is DYSON the final word in vacuum cleaners?

We had a Dyson for 6 years. Loved it and no problems until it suffered a fatal accident

DH went out and bought an Electrolux cleaner for £80 just before Christmas, and I've never felt it was quite as good. Last week it just stopped working. We thought it was the fuse but it's not. The shop we bought it from has since closed down. The local repair man will charge us about £50 to look at it.

I think I'm just going to go and get a new one and be done with it. Am hankering after another Dyson.

Mumsnet Jury - Do you think they're really head and shoulders above the rest?

I have a miele and I love it.

I borrowed my granny's dyson once and it was awful, it's so heavy, I have no idea how she manages to use it as she's 75! and it didn't pick very much up.

These Roombas look the thing. How well do they deal with high chair debris i wonder.....

My upright Dyson has just given up and so I'm going to buy a new vacuum cleaner. I was thinking about a Miele but can't find a bagless one. I've got some hard floors and some carpets, can I get a bagless Miele? Which vacuum should I buy?
