just bought an armchair of ebay, beautiful and cheap, but leatherette smells damp and musty where it was stored in a garage

what can I use to freshen it up? not exactly the weather for airing!

leather wipes or wash carefully with warm water and stardrops and a microfibre cloth. Some drops of lavender oil under the cushions will help as well

Bicarb of soda sprinkle loads on even slightly damp if possible without ruining the chair leave and then hoover off. Maybe down the creases as well.

Vinegar gets rid of musty smells. Do a test patch first - if that's ok, spray the chair with about half vinegar, half water then wipe off the leatherette, don't worry if it's soaked in anywhere, and let it dry. It'll smell like vinegar for a while but the musty smell will go when the vinegar smell does. You might have to do it a couple of times!

I've used Mr muscle pet odour destroyer recently which is amazing, but not sure if it would be ok on leather. It's about 7 quid on Amazon but it's a massive spray bottle.
