Rather than spend the £50 I've been quoted, how do I clean this oven? I mean REALLY clean it?

Been given my mums oven as ours id knackered, works perfectly but is filthy.

How do I get it shiney and new?

I mean the stuff the people come up to clean professionally use, yes it is that bad :/

I use Mr. Muscle oven cleaner, Spray it on ,leave it for an hour and it pretty much just wipes off. It really is good stuff :)

I use oven pride and it works well but the oven is never that dirty.

I would suggest getting a couple of bottles and leaving it on over night to start off with

I had our cleaned professionally and they actually took it apart and dipped it - I have never found a way to get it that clean!

Does the oven have pyrolitic linings so you put it on a specific setting to burn off dirt and grease? If so, don't use anything to clean the linings. You can however normally clean the base and shelves.

If it doesn't have those linings then I recommend Oven Pride. It's strong stuff though so read the instructions and follow them. You put the shelves in the bag in the pack and add some of the stuff then use the rest to clean the oven. I use a Stanley blade in a holder to clean the inside of the door after the Oven Pride has had a chance to loosen the muck.

Get the Lakeland stuff. Is it OvenPride? Can't remember name. BRILLIANT.

When we moved into our house, my mum's totally serious suggestion was that we simply throw the oven away. Seriously. It was the single most disgusting thing I've ever seen. Lakeland sorted it out. I had to buy the big plastic tub as well for all the inside bits. AMAZING.

Yesterday I cleaned the glass door of my oven after many years of ignoring the filth with a damp dishwasher tablet. It took a bit of scrubbing (with the tablet) but it was astonishing how effective it was. It is now spotless. 'Twas a mumsnet tip. The rest is still dirty - haven't got round to that yet!

Secondly, could you google the make and model to find the user manual? It might show you which bits you can remove for cleaning. Many people (I've read) just bung the removable parts in the dishwasher or soak in hot water with some bio washing powder. In the bath if no room in the kitchen sink?

Oven cleaner, leave and then get it clean with a window scraper. Top tip from someone who used to manage student property.

The Lakeland one is Oven Mate. I've never used that.

Oven Pride can be picked up in the likes of B&M, Quality Save, Home Bargains for around £3. Aldi also do it two or three times a year so I tend to stock up then.

The husband just uses the steamer on ours. Brings it up lovely.

I would so spend the £50.
Then make myself wipe it out on a regular basis.

Im a whizz at cleaning an oven, after (counts on hands) five rental properties in five years. Im a dab hand at clearing other peoples oven gunk.

Get an oven blade. Honestly type it into ebay its a few quid with some blades. Take as much of the oven apart as you dare(write it down like a jigsaw if you need to) scrape all over with the blade, honestly it'll take all the burnt on crap off. THEN use oven pride, use an old paintbrush to paint it on. Wipe it all out/wash it off. Bingo.

The blade honestly does all the work the oven man would do. Then your cleaner is merely lifting any residue off rather than trying to eat away burnt on crap.

Mine was filthy, like kim and aggie how clean is your house filthy!!!

I put the shelves and slide out glass doors in a bag with oven pride and covered the inside of the oven with bicarb and vinegar as suggested by my mother (thought she was barking as it would never clean it). I left all over night

Next morning thought dp had taken the black racks and chucked them as i picked up the bag and they were silver, shiny new looking racks!!! I was amazed as the oven pride had cleaned the gunk right off. The glass was see through again and it was amazing!

After a scrub of the inside of the oven the vinegar and bicarb brought the dirt right off too. My mother was bloody right again and i had to do some serious sucking up!!

I was lucky, moved into a spotless house complete with spotless oven, but now it's really grimy . Those oven blades look great have seen 50 for £2.60 or something. Will definitely be using some of these tips
