Come fold your loved clothes, and feel the spark of joy in every object you own (or thereabouts).

Frances I am doing things in Kondo order EXCEPT for paperwork... I kept putting it off and putting it off and finally realised that I clearly have some issues around it! So decided not to let it sabotage the whole process. Moved onto komono and feel that I will do paperwork when I am ready.

Marie's order isn't necessarily the right order for everyone. She says herself to leave sentimental things to the end and I would group with sentimental anything that has some kind of emotional charge, positive or negative.

Anote re the bath toys, the 'squirter ones. Make sure to squeeze all the water out after a bath and clean them regularly by squeezing them and letting them fill with boiling water, then a Milton solution. They get full of mould otherwise .

fuzzpig · 31/10/2014 08:08

I gave up on squirty toys long ago. Too high maintenance to keep the mould away therefore they don't spark joy :o

fuzzpig · 31/10/2014 08:10

(That said I was wondering what to do with the happyland. Tempted to keep it in case we have DC3, but the figures have holes in, so if I managed to wash them somehow, how could I guarantee they dried? (As they aren't squeezy so can't squirt the water out). They are brilliant toys and one of the very few I'd want to put away for future DC/DGC, so I'm reluctant to chuck them

ProveMeWrong · 31/10/2014 08:40

Maybe just give them a wipe and a spray of washing up liquid fuzzpig rather than full immersion? I know what you mean, I hate giving little babies dirty toys from previous kids, even though I know at every soft pkay ether ever attend it probably hasn't been clean for 6 months!

I am a horrible mummy. I got rid of all the bath toys during the bathroom cull. He never played with anything in the bath other than his normal matchbox cars so decided they had to go as they were just loitering. They were in fairly good nick so I charity shopped them. My bathroom looks like a grown up bathroom now except for the kiddy shampoo and bubble bath! If he fancies something else to play with, I throw in a plastic bottle and a wooden spoon so he can drum. He does have a playmobil pirate ship which is part of the toy rotation and if he asks for it, I'll get it out but not before! Mean.

Asheth · 31/10/2014 08:40

Have had a few days off as we went away for half term. But back in the swing of the declutter now. Not that you would know it to look at our house! We are doing a table top sale this weekend and DH has got on board with the declutter and is bringing loads of komono down from the loft. Hope we can get rid of it all and make some money at the weekend!

CoolCadbury · 31/10/2014 09:37

prove nothing mean about it. If he wasn't playing with the stuff it was clutter. I've also put toys out of the way in the garage. Ds probably won't ask for them for about 6 months. He is a bit obsessive. Once he is into something, it's all he will talk about and play with - total immersion. I've been very surprised by how well he has handled all this tidying. Yesterday, his job was to sort out a small box of lego cars 2 stuff and he did it without any fuss. Smile

CoolCadbury · 31/10/2014 09:40

fuzzpig a spray of anti bacterial stuff and wipe? Or if you want to wash them, give them a blow dry with a hair dryer and/or dry in warm oven?

Coughle · 31/10/2014 10:31

Or if the holes are small enough, cover them with a dot of clear nail polish and let dry. Then they can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand without water getting in.

(I probably wouldn't worry about it though as I am pretty laissez faire when it comes to toy hygiene - I like the idea if quick spray and wipe over)

ZingOfSeven · 31/10/2014 11:49

just saying hi.

Day5 post op, feeling a bit rubbish but I've stopped taking Codydramol. It's gone in a bag with some other medicines I don't use anymore and will be discarded next week.

It's my feeble attempt at decluttering this week! Grin

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 31/10/2014 12:44

Has anyone taken tramadol before? I'm on it for my abdominal pain and back pain, have taken 8 in 24 hours (maximum dosage) and feel very dizzy and drowsy. Starting to panic a bit as I hate the feeling of being out of control.

MsBug · 31/10/2014 13:09

Peonies codeine has the same effect on me, I hate it too.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 31/10/2014 13:14

MsBug codeine has literally no effect on me at all, doesn't kill pain or give me any side effects. This is insane, I feel dizzy even when sitting down. I have an appt with a specialist at 3.45 so hopefully he can advise me on whether I need to come off it.

I bought some Happyland figures from Ebay and washed them in water and Milton. After standing on a teatowel for ages, they still dripped a bit when first played with but eventually stopped Grin. I would pack them away uncleaned (or just wiped) and do the washing if/when they came out again.

Zing where are you discarding your medications? Do all chemists have a disposal bin? I have a bag that's been sitting in a cupboard for a year as I don't know what to do with it!

fuzzpig · 31/10/2014 13:51

Thanks for all the happyland cleaning advice!

Justgotosleepnow · 31/10/2014 14:27

Yes I think all pharmacies can take out of date meds so they are disposed of properly & not in landfill.

Justgotosleepnow · 31/10/2014 14:28

Zing & peonies I hope you both are feeling better soon x

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 31/10/2014 14:42

All pharmacies will take out of date or unwanted meds - I just left a big bag of stuff into Boots last week.

BeGhoul · 31/10/2014 14:46

I brought some Happyland from the charity shop and just gave them to my DC - oops!

My flat is a mess - it is the DC's weekend with their Dad and I shall spend tomorrow cleaning the flat and finding more stuff to throw away.

I thought I had the clothes all sorted but I haven't - mine are still out of control. I am holding onto stuff that doesn't fit and fear if I just hold onto stuff I love I'll have nothing to wear. So I'm going to try and be much braver re the clothes this weekend (NB I now have 25% of the clothes I had 18 months ago, but still I'm not 'there').

The cleaning itself should be pretty easy though - there are a few bits to put away and then some surface & floor cleaning - really so so much quicker and easier to do when you own less stuff. I do feel a little down about the state of the flat this morning, but knowing its a matter of a couple of hours to turn it around into a gleaming place again is a great feeling.

ZingOfSeven · 31/10/2014 17:01

Jimmy

any chemists/pharmacy will take them. I normally drop them off when going to GP

ZingOfSeven · 31/10/2014 17:06

Peonies

Tramadol, oh yes.
It made me feel very dizzy, nauseous and I actually hallucinated.
I thought I'd lost my thumbs, that my bed was sinking in Earthquake and also I was convinced I could see through my eyelids!Grin

Not sure what to suggest, I was in hospital when I had it so doses and course was not up to me to decide.

ProveMeWrong · 31/10/2014 17:46

Yes to the quicker cleaning BeGhoul. I mopped the whole apartment today and it took hardly any time since my declutter and "nothing on the floor" rule. I used to have things stuffed under every set of drawers which made mopping a nightmare. No more! So much better. Plus hardly anything to tidy up since the cull, just moving things from room to room back to their place. I can't tell you how many times in the past I've had something in my hand and thought "where the hell can I stuff this hidden away?" My old form of tidying up Blush

Hello ladies. I am a long-time lurker/follower. I can't remember why I first started reading the thread (although moving house in 2 weeks probably has something to do with it) but I have been quietly addicted ever since I started. I just wanted to say THANK YOU ALL for constant motivation - it has helped me so much. Thanks I thought I was pretty organised and tidy, but my goodness, my family had a LOT of stuff. And I now realise why tidying and putting clothes away was such a chore, and why the children really didn't play with their toys.
I don't have the book although I may well download it to my Kindle when I've finished reading Middlemarch in 2017. But I have followed the advice posted on this thread, and I have done toys, kitchen, my clothes, DH's clothes (I caught him folding his jumper properly and slotting it into the drawer and I was very smug), books...really only have DH's study and paperwork to get to now. I thought I would post today, as today was the day that a big van from Emmaus charity pulled up and took the fruits of my labours away - 7 boxes of books, three boxes of household goods, a bag of clothes (7 bags already put into charity bins), a table...and some other stuff...and I feel so much lighter. (In fact, for those struggling with stuff that stays put while you try and muster the energy for the charity shop run, I would highly recommend finding a charity that collects.)
I have also free cycled a lot of stuff, and eBayed around £200 worth.
So, onwards and upwards. I'm not finished, but I am LOVING the new way of life. In particular, I find it has changed my attitude to buying small bits of crap - I simply do not want it in my house, and I am very picky about what I will let in the door. I am also loving the way that the kids play with their toys. They haven't even noticed the absence of the four inches of crap at the bottom of the toy box.
Finally (and I know this is a long post) I was sceptical of the value of the folding, and have only recently tried it - but now I know - do not underestimate the Power of the Fold. I cannot believe how much space it has created, and the fact that we can see everything at once. I have to physically stop myself from showing visitors and attempting to convert them to the ways of righteousness. Blush
