Come fold your loved clothes, and feel the spark of joy in every object you own (or thereabouts).

Wow, that's impressive decluttering, scaryg. Any tips on selling stuff on eBay? I often think of it, but am always put off at the thought of packing stuff up, trapsing to the PO, etc. But that sounds like money worth having!

scaryg · 29/10/2014 23:52

With eBay I do buy it nows rather than 7 day auctions. I also use the app on my phone, it's a lot quicker, no faffing with downloading photos etc. I've been saving up packaging for ages and I'm self employed so can get to the post office fairly frequently. I also price it to include postage and offer it free.

ToffeeWhirl · 30/10/2014 00:09

Thanks for the tips, scaryg. Good idea about the inclusive postage. I have a couple of dresses I bought from eBay that don't suit me and keep meaning to re-sell them as it pains me to have wasted money on them.

It's very inspiring to read of other people doing so well. I'm away from home at the moment and I'm a little bit worried about what I'll be going back to as DH as been there by himself for a week. At best there will be no improvement in the house but that would be okay as I left it pretty tidy and clean. I was going to ask him to wash the kids' bedclothes while I was away but he didn't manage that last time (even though I had already stripped the beds, washed the bedclothes and left them drying in the tumble dryer so all he had to do was make three beds) so I didn't leave any instruction. It is frustrating because I'm sure if he took the kids away for a week I would get loads of decluttering done. I'm hoping I'll be able to get started in earnest next week but I'm a bit worried that I spend too much time clearing up he daily wreck mess, washing clothes and cleaning to actually have any time left over for decluttering, especially on such a big scale.

CoolCadbury · 30/10/2014 09:20

missa I hope you are okay. Flowers

scary you have done fantastically. Super well done.

hubb what's this about the cardboard earring display? I must have missed that bit. Please enlighten me.

No more excuses: I'm going in to the "office" and tackling the paperwork today.

Yesterday, ds agreed that all the toys he hardly plays with can go in the garage (have I mentioned that he only really plays with lego now Grin?) They are in plastic bags as I have run out of boxes so I need to get three boxes to keep them dust free and easy to transport. It's no hassle to bring them into the house if he ever wants to play with them.

FrancesHB · 30/10/2014 09:21

First day at home for aaaaaages. Am tackling DS2's clothes today, then it's time to move on to the dreaded paperwork Confused

Well done Kondo-ites. :fistbump:

Coughle · 30/10/2014 10:31

Did the kitchen junk drawer. Really wish I'd taken before and after pictures.

It was so satisfying. I've been looking forward to it for days (you are the only ones I can tell this to).

Now I actually have empty spaces in the drawer!

It took the kids 30 seconds the next day to find out that the drawer looked different and exciting and get the glue and scissors out of the back (didn't realise they could reach), so we will be moving the glue and scissors to the wall where the whiteboard markers are kept.

Hubb · 30/10/2014 10:58

Cool I saw the buzzwords cereal box earring holder (or something) in a post somewhere but must have missed where it was originally mentioned....I just fashioned something out of one side of a cereal box.

I cut it out and attached it to a clippy hanger, made holes for my dangly earrings and now it's displayed handily in my wardrobe. I think you could also make an A-frame type display by cutting the top and the side panels out, then sticking it together to make a triangle shape that stands on its own (if that makes sense...)

Eventually I want to make a nice looking display out of a picture frame with some mesh stuck inside...but many more projects to complete first!

I googled uses for cereal boxes and there are loads, paper files, drawer organisers etc....I'm in love with the humble cereal box now Blush

scaryg · 30/10/2014 12:04

Ok so bath toys, what do you use to store them in when not in use? I know, I know, no new storage but I'm stuck, they're just in a cardboard box on the bathroom floor which doesn't bring me any joy whatsoever.

I have one of those 3 tier chrome wire shelf/basket things which fits in the corner of the shelf above the cistern. Bottom two tiers are mostly bath toys - and I chucked out a few skanky ones recently including the stupid one with suckers that don't hold.

After some days off, I have sorted out all of the crafty crap drawer. Two small takeaway boxes now hold safety pins and clips and rubbers, sharpeners etc. Ds has just reached the stage of wanting to make things all the time, so this should be really helpful.

Now, the coatrack. I have no idea how a dozen coats have appeared since I sorted it last summer.

PeoniesforMissAnnersley · 30/10/2014 15:30

cool thanks, I'm alright! have an appt with specialist tomorrow! hoping for a proactive approach and not the usual "oh it's settled now, let's wait and see" although I doubt it will settle as it's been pretty constant since Tues morning.

I have good pain meds now so managed to get some decluttering done - rang my CC company but they won't do paper free, it's so annoying as I use the online banking on my phone and never need to even open the massive chunk of paper they send as I check it every couple of days anyway. Am about to ring bank to see if they will go paper free or not.

DH burned a huge lot of confidential papers over the weekend, after I do the family filing drawer today he will have another load to do I think.

I need to go through the huge pile of clothes accumulated in the spare doom, they were things which I couldn't decide on before, e.g. 5 or 6 Lovely cotton shirts which I somehow never seem to wear to work

Justgotosleepnow · 30/10/2014 15:32

Hubb thanks for the tip- I've just looked up cereal box organiser on Pinterest and got loads of ideas.

1- a bin for the car. Currently it's a tip & I never get time to clear it out. So I can just fling into the 'bin' instead & take that in once a week.

2- other empty cardboard boxes for tessellating (sp?) in drawers. Like knicker drawer. As I've found my existing dividers wobble around with the new clothes rolling & standing on end thang.

3- nice wrapping paper covered & use on the dresser to catch paperwork. Dresser is presently a tip, but when it's done there will be nothing on the top!

RandomFriend · 30/10/2014 15:36

May I join the thread? I am just starting with all this and am reading the thread to get tips.

I have a long way to go. Blush

Jamfilter · 30/10/2014 16:47

I did the floor to ceiling "larder" cupboard which was rammed with old food and half packets of icing etc today. From not having enough room and having tins on the windowsill, I now have an entire empty shelf in the cupboard (and empty windowsills). The top of the fridge is also empty - hasn't happened in living memory. I have approximately twenty gazillion Tupperware for the charity shop Blush

standingonlego · 30/10/2014 18:01

Another 2 bags of stuff to the charity shop - had to turn back to the donation door to whisper thank you to the bob the builder toys Blush

CoolCadbury · 30/10/2014 18:09

Oh, those tupperware boxes can be used for storage around the house jamfilter.

Did the paperwork. Got rid of a whole box of recycling and a black bin bag of shredded paper which is going to go to the nursery for children to have fun with. Next few days are going to be spent just organising the remaining paperwork so it all makes sense (its just in a pile at the mo) and fits into the kitchen cupboard that I have set aside for it - am more likely to file important paperwork if it's downstairs I think.

MrsCurrent · 30/10/2014 19:55

Evening all, I'm so far behind, with bday (what do you do with present that definitely don't bring you joy? Blush) and half term fun (paid for by stuff kondo'd and sold Smile) I've done next to nothing apart from 2 bin bags of the kids' clothes passed on. Also managed to use a lovely box a perfume gift set came in for keeping socks together in ds's drawer which really made me smile, former me would have kept it in a cupboard, I get the best of both now as I can keep it but make use of it.

Was so easy packing to go away, everything was easy to find and easy to put back afterwards, usually a break means chaos here for a week at least afterwards, oldest is off to cub camp tomorrow and I haven't packed yet as I know where to lift it all from in the morning, cannot explain what a difference this is in our house!

jamfilter spare Tupperware makes awesome geocaches! filled with the stuff you remove from around the house, it's my way of getting a lot of stuff out of this house and the reason we never have any Tupperware

Hope you're recovering well zing.

FrancesHB · 30/10/2014 20:39

DS2's clothes - doneGrin
DS1's books - done??

A good Kondo day for me.

Sadly this now means I can't put off the paperwork any more. Sad

Or maybe I could do towels and bedding??

CoolCadbury · 30/10/2014 20:59

frances have you been doing it in Kondo order? If then, yes, it's definitely paper work next. [evil grin] smiley needed. Having just done the paperwork today, it was a lot less stressful than I imagined and my paperwork was in a complete mess - just piles and piles of the stuff. You can do it!

CoolCadbury · 30/10/2014 21:01

mrscurrent had the same experience as you with packing - oh so easy.

FrancesHB · 30/10/2014 21:12

Oh no coolCadbury I have been doing it Kondo order (sort of; the great leader doesn't say when to do children's clothes and books so I did them after I did my own)

Bugger. Paperwork it is. Angry

scaryg · 30/10/2014 21:44

So today I picked up a random box of stuff I'd been storing at my Mum's containing guiding resouces, you know stuff used for a game or activity that went well or you'd like to do in the future.... well I put guiding on the back burner 3 years ago so I just freecycled the lot via Facebook this evening, its was random but useful stuff that wouldnt be suitable for the charity shop and it should all be gone by the weekend. If I start guiding again I can collect other useful stuff.

MsBug · 30/10/2014 21:46

Hello everyone, just reporting in to say that I have finally finished the paperwork Smile

Have kept four ring binders and three magazine files of stuff, including all documents such as passports. Plus four from my degree. Not exactly in line with the book, but a vast improvementon on how it was before.

Welcome random

Glad you are feeling better peonies

Our bath toys live in a net with suction cups to attach it to the tiles - like this only ours is a yellow crab!

scaryg · 30/10/2014 21:58

I got a net off eBay this evening, just like MsBug. I had discounted them as not suitable as I thought the suction cups wouldn't be strong enough - it didn't occur to me to just hang it off the taps Confused
