Come fold your loved clothes, and feel the spark of joy in every object you own (or thereabouts).

I am a few weeks in now and it is really paying off. As I move into the komono category I am starting to move things around the house more drastically.

We had a small chest of drawers by one side of our sofa full of stationery and business cards etc, on the other side was a stack of 6 boxes of CDs. That is what the setup has looked like since we moved in almost 3 years ago and we had grown so blind to it. I have just given the drawers to my kids for all their tiny toys (so they won't need to live on their bookcase anymore) and have moved all CDs away with intention to reduce drastically very soon. One side of sofa now has just the floor light and the other side has a minimalist coffee table. I can't believe the difference it has made. I'm itching for an occasion to put a case of flowers on the table

second that! Thanks

Isabeller · 21/10/2014 21:39

I'm making progress with clothes and already feeling a ripple of life changing magic Smile

CiderwithBuda · 21/10/2014 21:46

Great progress being made by all of you! Can't say the same here I'm afraid! I've strayed from the plan and it shows! Can't seem to concentrate on one thing or category. Was planning on finishing my bedroom but ended up doing the garage. Which needed doing but I'm not seeing any joy in my work cos I haven't been in the garage since Sunday! It's not attached to the house and I haven't had reason to go in. And I know if I open the doors it will just get full of leaves so am resisting.

We bought a new TV unit for our living room to replace the horrible black one we had. It arrived today but DH was out but we will sort that tomorrow. Currently or tv area is a mess and I'm looking forwRd to clearing and tidying that space. Old unit will be sold or given to charity shop. DVD pile will be culled. I will also tidy out the drawers in the side tables.

Coughle · 21/10/2014 21:52

I can't get anything done while the kids are awake and I'm so tired at night, I haven't made much progress lately.

That sounds very defeatist!

ChaffinchOfMegalolz · 21/10/2014 21:53

I am doing OK but feeling the need to revisit and further cull.

eg I've 'done' jewellery but now I'm thinking certain bits can also be gone.
will await my hanging storage and be very ruthless then.
anyone else?

also am annoyed by the bits hanging around waiting to be sold, but do need the £ so....

where do people keep wrapping paper/gift bags/ sellotape?
what do I do with a special teapot & milk jug - gift from DM years ago, limited edition so rare-ish, lid of teapot is glued back together though. it's on a shelf. it's pretty but not exactly joyful. where could it go. I can't use it as a milk jug would annoy me, and never make a pot of tea. bah.

fuzzpig · 21/10/2014 21:53

Finished the book! Not sure how I can implement it though. Doing it all at once is physically impossible given my health (but my health is the main reason I am desperate to do this!).

I found myself nodding fervently at several points over the last few days. Like the bit about not getting rid of things because of fear or attachment.

fuzzpig · 21/10/2014 21:55

Chaffinch you know the answer to the teapot question. It doesn't sound like it brings you happiness anymore. Maybe it did, but now, it's been broken, it's not getting used... Maybe it's fulfilled its purpose in your life already :)

Chaffinch, sorry your teapot is not bringing you joy I'm afraid so it might have to go to teapot heaven. Use up the wrapping you have and then buy it as you need it. Then you get the right wrap for the occasion. Or else have a blue roll that can be used for everything with different colours ribbons to jazz it up. In the mean time, you can store them in a box file as msdolittle suggest (Pinterest will show you how to store them)0

CiderwithBuda · 21/10/2014 22:28

Chaffinch - if it's a pretty teapot would a photo of it look nice on a notice board or something?

Photo of my wrapping paper - it's a bit messier now but was my first organising project a few years ago!

Am making slow progress in my new house after the initial frenzy of unpacking and putting away. I want to focus on the Konmari principle of absolutely everything having a set place but I haven't quite got there yet. I guess it will take a while and I will probably change my mind about where things should go! It takes a while to get used to new surroundings.

alemci · 22/10/2014 08:55

had a look at zapper. is everything 20p? Boxes must weigh a tonne to make £10, presumably you have more than 1Smile

does anyone empty there handbag, I'd probably lose stuff.

msdoless ? I like your style!

I am stuck at the moment, discarded lots of things but they are yet to leave the house, which now looks like a massive jumble sale.

Once the CDs / DVDs / records are all done we're on to Komono. Culled a lot of that recently so hoping it won't take too long to get to the kitchen, the kitchen needs the Kondo treatment pronto...

MsBug · 22/10/2014 09:49

alemci I am emptying my handbag some days but I only have one handbag I use for work, one change bag I use for days with dd, and a couple of nice 'going out' handbags which I never use.

I am only emptying my bag in the evening if I know I will be using a different one the next day, and I'm putting everything I need in the new bag and chucking away the rubbish which has accumulated.

josephine1986 · 22/10/2014 10:26

Oh dear i have fallen right off the konmari bandwagon, started very well and a textile charity collected 6 huge laundry bags of.clothes (mine, dh and dd) plus sheets and towels.
However I have just placed a couple of orders for winter clothes for dd. Much needed though! Havent bought anything for myself ,.in my defence

I LOVE that wrapping storage...

Flowers

at your feet.

All your photos are massively inspiring btw.

I am still only a lobby done person and a few drawers, but I have seen the light now.

What about her bedding directives?

My linen storage is limited and we have a ton of stuff. How much linen should i have for one double bed and two children's singles?

What should I do with the expensive duvet cover my stepm gave us which has those buttons on the back at the bottom so you can really only use it over a sheet and we never do. But it is such a lovely quality quilt.
hmmm rubs chin....

shock

hiring bedding - I worship MK but I ain't hiring bedding! is she mad?
(sorry for disrespect to Our Leader, I do adore her, but hiring a spare bed?

ZingOfSeven · 22/10/2014 13:29

about wrapping paper:

I heard somewhere that you should only ever buy plain gold wrapping paper because it goes with every occasion, it's unisex and looks nice (buy silver if you prefer, but not both!
or in my case metallic red coz I love red)

I don't buy cards anymore. I wrap the present and write "Happy Birthday XYZ, love, Zing and family" on the wrapping paper with a black Sharpie.
job done. Smile
it saves money, space and no more detached cards causing confusion as to who gave the present!

(nobody questions why there's no card and if they did I'd say "well I don't do cards, utterly pointless")
