Do you fold sheets before putting into washing machine?

My mum had put in a load for me recently, a rare occasion, and I was puzzled when I emptied the machine to find the bed linen all neatly folded.

She says this is the proper way to do it and stops it from creasing.

I think it's bonkers, have never heard of it in my life and I don't mind creased sheets. I say, surely the sheets don't get as clean, because the linen need to rub against each other and need to be loose for the detergent/water to reach all areas.

But DM looks at me as if I'm stupid and says the detergent/water will soak through and access all parts of the linen, and that shaking action of the washing machine is what loosens the dirt.

What do you say?

Yes, I know!

They fit into the laundry basket better! (there's just two of us so I don't have a load as often as I used to).

I do everything I can to minimise creases.

for a long time my mom (64) has been folding bedding to put into washing machine apparently its so she can get more in. she does it her way and ive found out it dont work well clean properly but ive done it my way by just throwing items in n yes is less items than folding but theye gotten clean and smell alot nicer. but my mom says she has life experience coz shes 64 but life experience means nothing

No folding of unclean bedding here, shoved in any shape and put to go. I wash a lot of bedding (7 beds some weeks).

My DM folds everything from the washing machine before pegging it all out. Then when dry folds it to bring it all in. She claims this saves her ironing.

I haven't got time to fold from the machine but I do fold from the line to minimise ironing.
