good for you. i had one when i lived alone not only to do the dishes about also as another storage area when unexpected visitors came can live with out most gadgets but not dish washer

TooTicky · 03/09/2006 14:32

I feel almost guilty wanting one, feel I should do it by hand really. Anyway, the kitchen is too small to fit one in and we can't afford one.

tortoise · 03/09/2006 14:33

Well done cc you will be so glad to get your hands out of the sink.
It made a big difference to me when I bought my dishwasher!

tortoise · 03/09/2006 14:34

TooTicky you can get really cheap compact ones which fit in a small area!

TooTicky · 03/09/2006 14:35

Don't tempt me! Our kitchen really is tiny, and full...

charliecat · 03/09/2006 14:41

Throw out the microwave and get a table top one
I have a whole cupboards worth of food to rehome.

Ooooh! Jealous!!! You lucky lucky thing!

We have a rented appartment without the plumbing thingies, so no chance for me

Next flat though.....

charliecat · 03/09/2006 14:43

I have no plumbing thingys either. Im hoping a trip to B and Q will resolve that??? Failing that ringing a plumber??!!

OP posts:
TooTicky · 03/09/2006 14:45

I don't have a microwave - nasty unhealthy things!

charliecat · 03/09/2006 14:46

I use mine to heat peas/beans when the pots havent been washed from the night before

OP posts:
bananaloaf · 03/09/2006 15:01

you can use a dishwasher to steam salmon that will save a cooking implement

TooTicky · 03/09/2006 15:02

Bizarre!

charliecat · 03/09/2006 18:59

Right, so with no plumbing thingys shall I cancel the order or proceed? Can it be done if theres none there at the moment?

OP posts:
Tickle · 03/09/2006 20:05

cc is it going next to the sink?

charliecat · 03/09/2006 20:07

No

OP posts:
Tickle · 03/09/2006 20:35

OK - so you have to look at where it will drain out... It needs a cold water hose in at the back, a drain and an electricity point. Measure how far you are from drain etc when you go to B&Q, so you can get the right lengths of hose.

charliecat · 03/09/2006 21:01

Phhhhhhhhhhheeeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Big sigh of relief, will need to drill a hole to reach the elecy point, someone mantions a splited thingy in a Y shape for the drain? Will call a plumber if needbe ...just had a panic there for a mo!

OP posts:
Tickle · 03/09/2006 21:19

I'm sure it'll be fine, as long as you don't try and get the water to go uphill And I think you'll wonder how you lived without one... have fun!

charliecat · 03/09/2006 21:21

Thanks, will let you knwo how it goes

Was just about to post that you need a Y piece, and probably a joining section for the waste water pipes too. Dishwasher and washing machine pipes basicly join together.

Y piece scroll down to washing machine y piece.
Compression tee , I had something like this to join the wastes but found the dishwasher backfilled in to the washing machine, so I went to plumbing trade place who recomended a better fitting, duel spigot , I didn't have to buy the whole trp though.

In our last flat we got rid of the washing machine and got a dishwasher instead. Washing went to laundrete, I could never get the washing dry anyway in the flat. So clean dishes and no wet washing all over the place.

Skribble · 13/09/2006 11:27

Ypiece is for the water inlets. Splits a single feed to both machines

charliecat · 13/09/2006 11:28

All done and dusted, got a Y piece thingy for the waste, not sure about the other bits, left dp to it
