My Dyson has Blown up! Advice needed shall I buy Miele Cylinder or Upright?

My Dyson has finally blown, am currently choking on hot motor fumes!

I have decided to go with a Miele next time as I have heard they are great but I cannot decide whether to go for a cylinder or upright model? I have a mixture of carpet/wood and tiled floors and do suffer with back and hip problems. I have never owned a cylinder before as I have heard they are harder to push along the carpet without a roller but then uprights are heavier to lift upstairs making it very hard to decide!!!

Are cylinders as good on carpet as upright cleaners?

I need to make a decision asap as 4 kids and a dog mean I cannot take too long making my mind up!!

Please advise ladies who have experience of both.

Much appreciated! xxx

If you get a miele cat & dog it has a head with a rotating brush & a head for tiled floors so you get the both of best worlds.

I had a Miele cat and dog, it was useless and I went back to a dyson, disclaimer I did have a dog that, by rights, should have been bald the amount she shed.

if you have a lot of flat carpets, especially downstairs where they pick up more dirt, an upright will suit you better. The motor-driven beaters really get the dirt and flea eggs out of the pile, and IME animal hair as well, through it may wind round the beater. Upstairs rooms don't usually get much dirt. If you can run to a small cylinder for upstairs, it will save you a lot of carrying. A cylinder is better for hard flooring such as boards, tiles or laminate, but if you only have a small amount, most uprights have a hose you can use.

Try lifting a few vacs in showrooms, the new Mieles are much lighter than our old one.

There is nothing to beat Miele vacs, both upright and cylinder. There is a lot more build in a upright, and they cost more.
