Shortening the length of a hanging curtain

Our curtains are sweeping the floor by a couple of inches and have sort of become a dust magnet. I've just not had the time (or money) to get them down and take them to a tailor. And now we have friends staying over from Sunday.

Any suggestions how I could shorten them a bit without taking them down.

They are thick. Sewing with a thread and needle isn't really an option :/

Do you have a sewing machine? The answer is to unpick the header tape, fold in the required number of inches to shorten them to the right length and then sew the header tape back on again.
Sorry it's not a simple answer, but it's relatively easy to do.

As a temporary measure, and it may look a pig when you do it or it could work, you could fold up the hem at the back of the curtains and use safety pins to hold it in place, being careful to make sure they are not visible from the right side of the curtains.

mine no sewing machine and sounds super complicated! :/

fudge will try that I guess

I was sort of hoping there is some upper glue which would hold it in place but come off whenever they go for a cleaning

Are you/your DH better with an electric drill than with a needle and thread OP? My friend had the same problem so she took the pole down and re-drilled holes so that the pole was a bit higher, problem solved!

Depending on the width of the curtains it could be an easier job...
