I bought an Indesit washer/dryer 18 months ago and it's rubbish!!
I bought a tumble dryer so now I just want a decent washer.

I bought a Hotpoint about 6 months ago and absolutely love it

trix1. I bought a hotpoint coz there was a good deal if you got the dryer too. I agree with the comment about the plastic fins inside coming off and ripping clothes. I've had the machine about 2 years and replaced the fins 3 times, now (£20 a time). They break off if you do a big heavy towel wash. Now I put the towels in one at a time. The dryer has bust once as well.

I'd never buy hotpoint again.

Miele. All the way. The service people are really good too

womblingalong · 26/07/2006 11:26

Miele is fabbo, with a fab guarantee, and great service, also they go on for ever.

There was another thread about this recently, think it's in products, can't do links, sorry!

Miele. Its woollen cycle is great for all those cashmere or lambswool jumpers that say handwash only. They really do last, so i think they're worth the extra. I've also had engineers tell me miele are the best.

bubbaloo, psst .. i bought my hotpoint 9 yrs ago and it's still running like new .. maybe i'm the only one!!!

BonyM · 26/07/2006 15:30

Miele - found a great website hosted by a washing machine repair man when we needed a new one a few months ago.

He reckons Miele are the best - they're designed to last 20 years and ours came with a free 10 year guarantee. It's really straightforward to use, and I love the fact that you can open the door during the cycle if the water level is low enough, and also as soon as the cycle finishes.

It was expensive but if it's going to last 20 years then def. worth it.

Just bought a Zanussi (the one with the 1600 sin cycle) and I love it. Used to have an Indesit, never again

MrsMuddle · 26/07/2006 16:31

Another vote for Zanussi here. My first Zanussi, which I gave to friends when we moved, is still going strong 16 years after we bought it! Had an Indesit washer/dryer after that that broke down annually. I'd NEVER buy Indesit again. I'm back to a Zanussi and loving it.

same here regarding indesit and hotpoint both utter rubbish and can't understand why trading standards allow them to trade!

BonyM · 26/07/2006 20:03

this is the website I mentioned - tells you which are good machines and which you should avoid.

Piffle · 26/07/2006 20:04

TheBlonde · 26/07/2006 20:05

Don't buy smeg - I had one it was rubbish
I have a Bosch now - v pleased with it

Rest of family have hotpoints which they seem happy with

Piffle · 26/07/2006 20:06

ours came with 15 YEARS manufacturers guarantee for free!

BoilingHotFrayedKnot · 26/07/2006 20:15

I have a Siemens and the wash cycle takes bl**dy ages.

My Mum has a Miele and it takes about a quarter of teh time and is lovely and quiet.

chestnutty · 26/07/2006 20:21

Have a zanussi jetstream progress 1200 7kg.
So far its fab esp being able to get extra washing done in one go.
Had a hoover before and it was trouble from the start. The bolts holding the drum in, sheared off due to them being rubbish so (under warranty) we had a new drum fitted.Timer and motor went, something came loose at the bottom etc and every time we had to wait a week for the engineer to come and fix it. In the end we stopped paying for the extended warranty and got an another year out of it.

saffy202 · 26/07/2006 20:46

I have an Indesit washer/dryer but never use the dryer nowadays as have a seperate tumble dryer. My Indesit has been going for nearly 16 years

Blueberry3 · 27/07/2006 09:19

Another vote for Miele - ours is just over 4 weeks old and we're loving it - expensive, but worth it, has an excellent reputation, are long lasting etc. And it's very quiet. Our previous washing machine was a Bosch, also pretty good too, had it for 6 years, no problems.
