How to get rid of a fishy smell?

... in my kitchen after cooking fish, I hasten to add. We don't have a cooker hood or extractor fan due to crap layout, and every time I cook fish (esp if I griddle/grill it) it stinks for about a day afterwards. I've heard something about a cup of white wine vinegar by the cooker or soemthing while you're cooking - does anyone know if that (or anything else) works? I love fish but it's putting me off cooking it!

Oh, right! . There are a lot of smelly threads today - but this is my first one on the subject, honest!

So just a bowl of bicarb mixed with water by the cooker should do it?
