Ooooh, I love laundry!

My machine won't let you spin too fast on certain programmes. The cottons wash for towels and things will spin up to 1200 but you can adjust it down the way if required. The programme I was most of our clothes in has a top spin of 800 IIRC but you can adjust this down the way and I would do if it was something very delicate, in this cycle the machine also turns the clothes every five or so mins after the cycle has finished for an hour or so, it's an anti crease thing.

Not sure of the spin on the wool wash or delicates wash but slightly alarmed that I am considering going to look at the machine to find out.

womblingalong · 22/06/2006 22:24

Absolutely I use different spin speeds, and save the high spin speed for sheets, towels and jeans

I used to do it all on the fastest spin, but when I bought my new washing machine, (and by the way I love it to bits - is fab).

I spoke to a washing machine engineer, and he said that very high spin speeds knacker clothes more quickly, which explained why all my dd's clothes looked knackered after doing them all at 1600 on my old machine.

UberCodofWashingFame · 23/06/2006 10:07

1600?
god htt must go intot orbit
oh yes fabboo sparkly lcothes goe in "dliecates"
liek me

Tutter · 23/06/2006 11:13

ok - another washing question. do you have any clothes that you absolutely would not put through the washing m/c. i haven't. life's too short to hand wash. or am i being conned by the 'silk/delicates' programme on my machine. so far things have been ok, altho a couple of knits are looking less than shapely...

MrsBadger · 23/06/2006 11:45

Tutter, I put everything except suits and silk evening dresses throught the machine - what really helps the knits is to dry them flat afterwards eiter on a towel on the patio table (shame), or on a rack thing like this or this - means you can re-square them after spinning.

Am bemused by all the dial-twiddlers - my machine is sufficiently intelligent to select the right spin speed for the program (hot? must be towels, top speed. 40? she's washing clothes, moderate speed. 30? ooh it's that delicate jumper, low speed)

NomDePlume · 23/06/2006 11:48

Why are you a freak for running your dishwasher once a day, Cod. Mine goes on every day, because a full day of dishes for our family of 5 (+ cat bowl) = full dishwasher. Does that mean I'm weird too ? Or do you run it every day even if it isn't full or nearly full ?

NomDePlume · 23/06/2006 11:50

Cod, I have a machine which allows me to adjust every element of each pre-programmed wash cycle too. I spin most things on 1200, aside from delicates of all types (wool, silk etc) which I spin on the normal pre-set spin, usually either 300 or 400.

MrsSpoon · 23/06/2006 12:54

What I find truely freaky are people who buy fancy all singing all dancing washing machines and then only use one programme on them (usually 40 degress with a 1200 spin) and don't play with the other buttons, now that is weird.

Cappucino · 23/06/2006 13:24

ooh get mrs badger with her 'sufficiently intelligent'

my machine is dead thick

and i always stop it before the rinse cycle cos i use ecoballs; so i have no idea the speed it spins the soapy water out at

I do put it on then for a quick rinse and spin with a couple of drops of orange and lemon oils... can I have goddess points for that?

muma3 · 23/06/2006 13:35

i keep mine on the highest spin 1400 so not fill my tumble dryer full of water . use about 4 different programmes

Clary · 25/06/2006 00:41

wow I never alter the spin speed (tho DS2 does sometimes...then I wonder why all the clothes are dripping wet).
I love ironing tho so not bothered by having wrinkly shirts. And I like clothes to dry quickly.
Concerned h/ever at wombling's news re knackering the clohtes....
Glad to find this thread and explain "ubercod" name.

What was yr tip the other day cod btw?

hunkermunker · 25/06/2006 00:54

LOL at this thread.

My washing machine is my friend. I play with the spin cycles and use different temps, etc. I also put it on timer so it's finished in time to peg out in the morning. But I do have lapses.

UberCodofWashingFame · 25/06/2006 14:00

no the dishwasher thing was htat i ONLY put it on once a day - every night

adn hte uber cod is becasue i DO use differen tpinspeeds

i hardly ever handwash tbh - the delicates one is so poofy i cant beleive its harder then me swilling it around crossly.

hunkermunker · 25/06/2006 14:29

Why would you need to put a dishwasher on more than once a day?

LOL at handwashing crossly.

UberCodofWashingFame · 25/06/2006 16:07

Cappucino · 25/06/2006 20:11

UberCodofWashingFame · 25/06/2006 20:13
