Does it matter if the light bulb in your fridge no longer works?
Our zanussi f/f is only 18 months old but the bulb has gone.
(This has never happened with any other f/f I have ever had so not an issue I have had to deal with before)
Dh can't unscrew the plastic cover to change the bulb. He has tried 3 times.
Does it matter if we just leave it?

John Lewis say it will cost is £79 call out to get a zanussi engineer out to change it!

No, it doesn't matter. As long as you can see what's in there.

MrsJaqenHgar · 09/09/2013 19:28

No. The light in my last FF didn't work for years. I'd already spent a fortune on the heap of scrap and I refused to spend another penny on it so the light stayed broken.

Badvoc · 09/09/2013 19:32

Phew!
Thanks.

No. Our old fridge had a broken light for years. I'd forgotten fridges even had lights by the time we got a new one - was a nice surprise the first evening we had it.

have you got the instruction book?

Badvoc · 09/09/2013 20:07

Yes.
Just tells you to unscrew the panel which dh can't do. Has even tried his electric screwdriver!
(He is pretty handy usually...an engineer by trade)

Heh, talk about sunk cost fallacy.

Reminds me of my cousins stupid joke. He told me he was buying his dw a fridge for Xmas, and couldn't wait to see her face light up when she opened it. ( I didn't get the joke, and told him off for buying such a horrible present)

Poledra · 09/09/2013 21:12

16 years. Yes, you read that right, my last fridge was in the dark for 16 years (what can I say, I'm lazy and had a torch Grin).

Also have a look around the front of the fridge for the switch. Ours is at the bottom in the middle. It pops out when the door opens. If this gets stuck it doesn't pop out and so the light won't work. Probably not that but is easy to fix -just pull in and out a few times to loosen it.

Sounds crazy, but some things do unscrew in opposite direction, has this been tried? Have found that many small "special" bulbs (sewing-machine, microwave, probably fridge etc) can be bought much cheaper at general electrical suppliers.
