Help! How can I get rid of the smell of vomit from carpet?

I couldn't make it to the bathroom and ended up vomiting on the stairs. DH did a pretty good job clearing up, but after a warm day our hallway is pretty whiffy. Is there a miracle substance which will get rid of the smell?

Weak solution of zoflora, hope you feel better soon.

Bicarb, damp the carpet, sprinkle it on liberally, put a towel over it to stop it being trodden round the house, leave it to dry and then hoover it out. Works a dream.

Dettol works everytime Smile

Dettol is the stuff for all bodily fluids.

I second bicarb. Dampen the carpet, use loads, let it sit overnight, then vacuum it up. It might be crusty but just break it up, it'll come out.

(So exactly what WhoKnows said!)

I learned this from my mum, who didn't bat an eyelid when DD (then 3) suddenly leaned forward and hurled all over the lounge carpet, no warning whatsoever. It was her birthday as well Sad

Thanks for your replies. We're in full sickness mode in our household. The smell in our hallway is not conducive to keeping stomach contents down! Reckon I'll try the bicarb when I can face it
