Is my tumble dryer too close to my radiator?

I just had my first ever dryer delivered this morning in preparation for this winter but not sure where is best to place it in my home.

My kitchen is a very decent size but the only place left to put it is quite near a radiator, unless I can run an extension lead but not sure how safe it is to use these with large appliances daily.

A front corner of the dryer is about 45cm away from the radiators corner so it worry's me that the heat from the radiator could damage the dryer. I could put it in another part of the kitchen but would have to run an extension cable from one of a double wall socket IYSWIM.

I don't believe it will do any harm.

It is preferable not to use extension leads for appliances which a heavy continuous load, such as a drier.

The electricians' technical press had studies a couple of years back, showing how extension sockets and plugs overheat, which surpised me, as it seems to happen even when they are running within their design rating.

Incidentally you should not put two heavy, continuous load appliances into a double socket as it will overheat. Despite what you might expect, they are specified to the same 13A rating as a single socket (some brands, like MK, are designed to a somewhat higher standard)

Thank you John!

I think I will leave it where it is then. After using it a few times I've realised it warms my kitchen so much I may not need the radiator on in there most of the year anyway!

Interesting about the plug sockets. Thank goodness I know now before potentially causing a fire hazard in my own home Shock
