How to get urine out of / off grouting [boak]

bonzo77 · 26/08/2013 19:20

Now DH had mended his disgusting failure-to-aim issue, I would like to remove the urine stains from the grouting adjacent to the toilet. Bleach + elbow grease has barely touched it. Am I going to have to regrout?

I have heard that tooth whitening tooth paste can work.

valiumredhead · 27/08/2013 13:26

Did you use neat bleach?

PaleHousewifeOfCumbriaCounty · 27/08/2013 14:54

Vim? Steam cleaner?

gamerchick · 27/08/2013 14:56

Did you use neat bleach as has been said? Neat, on an old toothbrush and scrub one by one.

bonzo77 · 27/08/2013 15:31

Right. Will try again with neat bleach. I do have a steam cleaner so will give that a go too. Thanks!

Why are you doing the scrubbing? You didn't do the weeing. get Dh to get the bleach out it will be an incentive to keep his aim true Grin

bonzo77 · 28/08/2013 11:20

Yeah, was thinking the same. But I cut him a lot of slack for getting up early with the kids everyday so I can get an extra hour asleep.

Anyway, have scrubbed and steamed. Jiffed and ajaxed. It's better but still there. WTAF!!

You can get little paint pens for grouting, if the stain really won't come out.. It sounds like it must be thoroughly clean of any germs after all your scrubbing!

mikkii · 28/08/2013 11:26

My boss has a puppy, and he kept weeing in the same place and their dog trainer told them to clean it with vodka.

I don't know if it would work on the colour or just neutralises the smell (and I wouldn't waste my Absolut on the tiles) it may be worth buying a supermarket own brand 1/4 bottle.

gamerchick · 28/08/2013 11:26

Sounds like maybe it's time for a touch up with a Grout Reviver pen. If it's been stained for a while it probably won't go back to white.

Bleach although good for cleaning, will destroy the aerodynamics in your grout so isn't a good idea. If you use the steam cleaner, beware of the smell. Hot stale wee is an experience I'd never like to repeat. We had our bathrooms all replaced and everyone in my house now sits down to pee.

soontobeslendergirl · 28/08/2013 11:39

Aerodynamics¡ Was meant to say antifungacide :o

gamerchick · 28/08/2013 11:42

Aerodynamics Grin I did chuckle at the picture.

TheFallenNinja · 28/08/2013 11:47

Where can I get this aerodynamic grout from? I want to reduce the drag in my tiles.

soontobeslendergirl · 28/08/2013 11:54

Maybe the aerodynamics would help the pee to reach is proper destination instead of winding up down the tiles :)

Sitting down is the answer though, I have 2 boys and my husband and no wee on the tiles - they do dribble on the toilet seat a bit, but that is definitely easier to clean.

betterwhenthesunshines · 28/08/2013 13:08

Not sure about your partocular problem, but I have used Fairy Power Spray on the grout in my kitchen and it cleans it more easily than scrubbing with other bleach. You still have to scrub a bit, but it really seems to lift any ingrained dirt.

iseenodust · 28/08/2013 13:15

There is some very strong stuff you can buy in B&Q but I can't remember the name. Confused It's in white and green/grey bottle with spray gun. Look on the back and choose the one that says need gloves & glasses when use. Our shower grouting has come up a treat at last.

bonzo77 · 28/08/2013 14:34

Off to b&q later!

I'd been complaining about DH's aim for ages. When I went away for a few days without him he called saying there was a leak and we needed a plumber. Actually it was his piss all over the floor which I hadn't been wiping up for him!!! So he now does aim (though I'm sure Aerodynamic grout would make for a further improvement).

BTW I tried the Dettol mould remover spray, which is also bleachy, but to no avail.

Grin at the 'leak'

DS has the bladder of a whale so his morning wee goes on for an eternity and this coupled with a young virile ahem tackle means we often have a lovely lake at the back of the loo seat. Poor child was therfore also blamed for the damp around the wall in out downstairs loo - which actually IS a leak .
