Fridge/Freezer defrosted whilst on 2 week holiday, still smells after cleaning - any ideas

Hi

On day 2 of our 2 week holiday we had power cut. Our Samsung American fridge/freezer (6 months old) defrosted, loads of fish, prawns' meat in freezer... The smell when we opened the front doors was unreal!

Have wiped the inside with white vinegar, bi-carb soda, tried leaving bi-carb soda in a container to soak up the smell. Also same with vanilla essence.Fridge now ok ish but the freezer still stinks....

I bought one of those charcoal filter things from Lakelands and it hasn't really made much difference. Emptied out the ice maker bit.

Anyone have any ideas or am I doomed to have a smelly freezer?

Thanks

Have you checked the water tray behind it hasn't been flooded with stale water?

Failing that, sprinkle a jar of instant coffee on some kitchen roll all over the bottom of the fridge. That's worked for me in the past with a bad sour milk spill!

Hi

Thanks for the tips. Yes we did air it maybe not for long enough. Will try.

Forgot to say we also did put a large plate of coffee grinds in both sides, worked really well in fridge but not freezer!

Hmm will have a look at the tray, hadn't thought of that...

Thanks again.
