Getting stains out of whites - an escalating arsenal

What's the order of an escalating arsenal of products / techniques to get stains out of whites? It's for DH's shirts.

So far, I think:
Sunlight
Vanish stick + Napisan in wash
Soda crystal wash
Boil wash
Actual bleach
New shirt

I stick to 60 degree washes (so shoot me) with Ariel for whites washes. Don't have any stains :) I feel it saves the extra Sunlight, Vanish, Napisan, Soda Crystals, Actual Bleach and New Shirt eco-unfriendly chemicals/wastage.

I would shift boil washes up your list for a while TBH!

ISee, DH says that they're mostly tea or coffee.

DS2 has a part time weekend/ holiday job washing up and greasing tins in a bakery. He wears a white apron over a white boiler type suit. I soak them in Tesco own Oxi action powder for whites in red hot water for a couple of hours, after I have treated them with Fairy liquid.

They get rubbed through a bit by hand then put in the washing machine on a 60degree wash with Persil and Napisan, then dried in the sun.

Have you tried washing soda?

I swear by Biotex powder - an overnight soak in lukewarm Biotex before the normal wash removes blood, grass, deep seated white sock grime, armpit stains...,wouldn't be without it!
