July's Fledgling Flyers: Summer holidays are on their way and the clutter is going to FLY away

elliepac · 30/06/2013 20:33

Welcome old and new fledglings to the July Fledgling FLYers thread!

Thank you very much to cpmpy for leading us expertly through June- it's been a while since I lead so I can't promise to be as efficient but will do my best Grin. This will start by copying and pasting pmpy's original June postGrin

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month

Hope everyone has had a good day. Blue my DS was never one for hiding things, DD is a complete nightmare for it. Usually stuff is in one of her many treasure boxes, pencil cases, bags, shoeboxes made into houses, plastic pretend doctor's case etc.

A nice day here, I went for my swim and as I was leaving met a friend who was dropping off her DCs so we went for a coffee (hadn't seen each other for ages). Then home, more washing done (4 single beds worth of bedding line dried today as well as the overnight clothes). We all went to Pizza Hut before doing the bridesmaid shoe shopping, also bought some smarter clothes for DS for the wedding. This afternoon a friend invited us round for drinks in the garden with 3 other families (the DCs all go to school together) DD's swimming lesson followed and we have just been watching the circus people packing away the big top.

Trazzletoes · 14/07/2013 22:24

We're still in hospital for the foreseeable future. Played with DD this morning. No flying. None scheduled for tomorrow or Tuesday either. May manage 15 minutes on Wednesday

Asheth · 14/07/2013 22:25

It's been far far too hot for flying this weekend! So have done nothing, apart from the washing! I've got a busy week next week, but will try to do as much as possible at home before the DC break up! Hope everyone had a good weekend!

ToffeeWhirl · 14/07/2013 23:15

Sorry you are still stuck in hospital, Trazzle.

WhoKnows -that sounds like a very busy and enjoyable, day Smile.

Asheth - I agree that it's too hot for Flying - plus we need to make the most of it.

Blue - when he was three, my DS1 buried one of my Mum's ornaments in her flower bed (discovered by her a year later, whilst weeding) and also hid his aunt's keys under her sofa cushions. And DS2 once posted all my credit/debit cards down the gaps between the floorboards. In other words - the padlock could be anywhere Grin. Sorry!

Our trip to the beach was lovely. Came home as it was starting to get unbearably hot and sat in the garden whilst DS2 played in the paddling pool to cool off. Managed to do two loads of washing and hang them out. Managed to get both boys reading books Shock. Fell asleep for a bit later whilst DS2 played 'Minecraft'. Did dinner and bedtimes. Just about to make up our bed with clean sheets and put clothes out for the morning.

Trying not to have a bedtime snack as it will put me over my calorie allowance .

Night all.

Swanhilda · 14/07/2013 23:32

Trazzles I hope everyone in hospital is being supportive and the noise is less.
Toffee I hope you didn't get sunburnt!

Admiration for your ds PA and a whole shift of Pizza making!

done
busy day again. More clothes searching with dd, who wanted perfect prom dress (she is 11). Finally we discovered the joys of Dorothy Perkins. She is size 8/10 so that helps especially in a Sale. She settled on a vairy flamboyant dress which was had what appeared to be white ermine on top half (crumpled chiffon [confused) and layers of red polyester for skirt. I tried desperately to get her to wear tasteful blue subtle floral dress but no way!
Then on to big party for her whole class in a pub. With a garden and climbing frame luckily. So there were all these sophisticated 11 year olds in their prom dresses [actually the boys were all wearing shorts and teeshirts] having great fun on the climbing frame. It was funny to see.
We kept ds2 away until the last hour, and dh took him out for a fun trip. Then he arrived, and did a flamboyant dance at the disco, embarrassing dd sufficiently to put her in a sulky mood. Oh dear. Some of the parents who don't know ds2 well were surprised to see how impatiently ds2 behaves. I've given up explaining his behaviour. I can't be bothered...

Still at least it all went comparatively smoothly.

SATs results back. DD got three 5's, low ones I think, and Ds2 got only a 3 in one SAT and 4 in the other two, including Maths. I am astonished the school didn't show any concern about the 3, which they predicted I suppose in Feb, but he was supposed to move up 2 subgrades and clearly didn't! Maybe they don't care what he gets because he is on the SEN register. I can't be bothered to make a fuss but sometimes I wonder why they made all that effort trying to get a subgroup of the class Level 6 and no effort to get someone who was obviously behind a plain and simple Level 4 in grammar spelling and punctuation. But really I can't be bothered to make a fuss. It all seems not as important as whether he can get through a party without having a nervous breakdown...Hmm Sad really.

elliepac · 15/07/2013 06:26

Morning all.

Unbearably busy and hot weekend so am just flying through with the links.

Your babystep for today is making your bed.

Your mission for today is here.

This week we are in TheBathroom and One Other Room

Have a good day everyone!

Like Toffee I have a minecraft lover.

Who will be 13 next month. And the laptop he uses for school is dying. And won't play "proper" non iPod Minecraft. So he saved for 8 months, we bunged in the other half as birthday pressie and he has a new computer.

With Windows 8

Oh god.

It won't talk to the wifi, so it has to be cabled.

And due to the layout of the house there is only one way to get the modem upstairs.

So

To Do

  1. Change DS's room to our room and vice versa.

  2. Make the "walk in wardrobe" room next to my, but soon to be DS's bedroom a study with modem and puter.

  3. Make guest room into guest room plus walk in wardrobe.

I am going to melt. But it's one of those (mammoth) jobs that bring put lots of chucking away of things past their prime, or they just annoy me.
And everything has to be cleaned cos room changing is a dust storm.

It's so hot too.

Trazzle if anybody deserves a cleaner, it's you.

GoingGoingGoth · 15/07/2013 07:14

Morning all,
Yay, I'm on holiday! Grin and up before everyone else, even DH.

Done
Laundry on
Fed cat

To do
Finish Brew
Iron yesterday's laundry
Hang laundry out
Bring laundry in
Iron
Complete packing
(There's definately a theme here)
Shops (can't remember why but there's something I need to get today)
Re-pot tomato & butternut squash plants, there's no way they'll last until I get back

I'm not worrying about weekly bleugh, the house looks reasonable & DH does know how a vacuum works. Pity he can't light the oven Hmm but the odds are he'll make a lot of curries.

Will pop back later, hope all you lovely ladies are ok.

pushmepullyou · 15/07/2013 07:26

Morning everyone Smile. Poorly DD this weekend has meant we've been stuck at home and we've actually done a reasonable amount of weekend flying including DH defrosting the freezer, which I don't think we've done since we moved in 6 years ago Blush.

Off to Stirling today so flying is looking unlikely!

PositiveAttitude · 15/07/2013 07:44

Morning ladies Smile

Swan - glad the party was good for DD. And it does sound as if DS also had fun....ignore the people who give you a Hmm or a Confused Hold you head up high and let them wonder. You should not have to explain or defend DS2 to them.

Trazzle hope this week starts well for you and Joe.

Hi to SC, toffee, PMPY, Blue, Whoknows, Ellie, Bitchy, Asheth and everyone else.

Lovely weekend here. Yesterday's presentation went really well, then visited DD3 in the afternoon in her new house and met her new puppy. Gorgeous little thing - even though I am really not a dog person.
Then a lovely BBQ with good friends and a walk along the sea wall at sunset....arrrgh!!

Today - not too sure what I am doing. Confused I need to go into town and do some bits and pieces as well as a big supermarket shop.
Housework - hmmmmmmm - maybe I will clean the windows, that's something that has been on my "Maybe" list since I have been back,.
Get the washing on the line.

Not a lot else!!! Wink

I plan to make the most of our last week with DH and DD4 here.

have a good day everyone.

BlueEyeshadow · 15/07/2013 09:10

Morning all. Found the padlock. It was in the depths of the shed itself. Wasn't until we realised the back door key must be with it that DH got serious about looking...

Sounds good, PA.

Swan Grin at the sophisticated 11yos on the climbing frame.

What a pain, Carpe.

((Hugs)) Trazzles.

Have a good day everyone.

Jdub · 15/07/2013 09:34

Good morning! Another gorgeous one! Pllllleeeeaaaassssee stay sunny til at least September!
Hope everyone's weekends were good. They do seem to last longer when the sunshines, and my 2 lads were very helpful as well on the tidying up front! Rejoice!! Eating outside as much as poss seems to cut the mess down (as long as keep the dishwasher ready to load as soon as we bring everything in!)
Came to work on my bike today so will think what needs to be done later - but now - COFFEE! Have a good day xx

ToffeeWhirl · 15/07/2013 09:56

Overslept this morning, but somehow managed to get DS2 to school before they took the register.

Have put the bins out. Flies everywhere . Have just poured bleach into the bins to clean them.

My main aim this morning is to get DS1 out into the sunshine. Then we are seeing his lovely CBT therapist this afternoon.

Hope you all have a good day and get to enjoy the sunshine.

Jesstryinghard · 15/07/2013 10:20

Good morning all hope you're all well

I had a good weekend

Got my sons toys all sorted yesterday which is no mean feat (I'm
Sure that's not how you spell that) and its given me a lot of motivation to keep decluttering and sorting my place :))

I need to unpack my over priced groceries now

Steamedcabbage · 15/07/2013 10:54

[SC canters in ... paws ground with hoof ... neighs...]

Just wanted to say "hello" to everyone! Mahoosively busy here....

Haven't caught up with thread but just wanted to say sorry you and Joe are stuck in hospital (esp in this weather) Trazzles Sad

Huge waves to everyone!!!

[gallops off to "grill" some more washing on the terrace]

CHBitchy · 15/07/2013 12:08

I have no motivation. Absolutely completely and utterly no motivation. Really cba. just want to sleep. can't sleep due to waiting for an important phone call. Don't want to move as it hurts but if I don't move i seize up and it hurts. And i am currently curled up under a duvet in this heat feeling cold. pain killers are going to be the wat forward and i think i might try to be productive with a hook or something. No even put the half dry washing back out to finish of. FLying? hahahahaha

ToffeeWhirl · 15/07/2013 12:18
CHBitchy · 15/07/2013 18:18

ta da
important phone call
finish hooking pieces for a hug
start putting hug together
finish off ends to previously made angel hug.

not a huge amount and not entirely sure any of it counts at flying but meh.

PositiveAttitude · 15/07/2013 19:46

Not quite achieved my minuscule list for today. Blush

Did the windows, but didnt manage town....I decided we had enough in the house for today, so will go in tomorrow. I think I am joining you with cba-itis, Bitchy My mind is a bit overtaken with other things at the moment.
No cooking tonight for me, which has been good, just got back from friends house where we shared another BBQ.

Tomorrow is another day and all that.

Swanhilda · 15/07/2013 20:37

Dd and I are spending all our time on shopping trips it seems Confused Today was the "swimsuit" expedition. She now looks like a beautiful bathing beauty from the 40's 50's... in the paddling pool.. She is off to some swimming place with her class tomorrow.

I spent morning at CBT and afternoon at John Lewis in the uniform department (all reserves of sanity used up there certainly Hmm) Dh is always very nice to me when I return from these places; I think he feels a certain "threat" hanging over him Grin So we have had some sparkling pink wine this evening.

done
trip to Tesco with dd for packed lunch items and more
trip to Boden sale
ds1 football
bins
washing load
school uniform purchased
food compost
plates in dw
long trip on Tube and back (tiring and hot)
lawn sprinkled

Toffee I think sunshine is extremely therapeutic if properly administered! (ie: no pavements, no loud noise, no badly fitting shoes, and plenty of drinks)

PA I cannot imagine how exciting it would be to visit a grownup child in their new house - you will have to resist telling her to put in cup hooks (my mother's biggest failing is an obsession with where all the crockery should go)

Bitchy I think we should have a list of all your creations this year, with pictures!

Jdub the next step I feel is to start cooking everything outside too, and washing up under the outside tap (or paper plates Blusheco)

Trazzles I hope you managed to get through today.

CHBitchy · 15/07/2013 21:14

Unfortunately swan if i did that i would be immediately outed in rl as my projects are rather unique.

CarpeVinum · 15/07/2013 23:14

Evening all

TAh dah!

Stuck hand in a wasps' nest.
.
.

Can me and my cartoon hand have a sick note for the morrow please ?

I look silly.

CHBitchy · 15/07/2013 23:19

fucking hell carpe Shock

GoingGoingGoth · 15/07/2013 23:22

Carpe ooh sounds nasty (but does your hand throb in a Looney Tunes way?)

Did my list AND vacuumed AND got DD to tidy her room.

Just waiting for iPad to charge up then I'm off to bed.

CarpeVinum · 15/07/2013 23:45

yes.

Is silly red, throbby sized.

But so far all within ten cm of deep impact point(s)

Actually my hand looks really young. It's like somebody has blown it up with a bicycle pimp, so the skin is all taut.

Am trying not to get paranoid about circulation being cut off.

Back to the ice bucket.

Fucking wasps.

I will cut down the pomegrante tree in revenge.

Just as soon as I can hold an axe!
