Does anyone know how to shift this please? When I was hanging out my washing today, I noticed dirty marks on some clothes that I think could only have come from the washing machine seal. Is there anything that I should know about and should be doing? Thanks for any help.

Put on a wash at 90 degrees (we do the tea towels at this temp regularly) using biological powder. This advice was from the Miele service engineer.

Don't do what I used to do, which was to try to clean it using Milton, flick the seal up and shoot it into my eye!

Thanks, should I do that with or without washing in it?

My washing machine manual says to wipe the seal with a cloth and mild detergent. My mum wipes hers with a weak bleach solution and then just a wet cloth. However, I've read bleach can break down the rubber over time. I'm sure it would be ok to give it a thorough clean. I've read that other people use things like flash spray with bleach in. If using bleach make sure you wash something like white towels / tea towels on a hot wash after in case there is any bleach left in the machine.

I'm doing the maintainance wash today - 90oc with soda crystals only (couple of towels and flannels), then an empty machine with vinegar. Will wipe round door in between with a damp cloth with a bit of washing up liquid on it. Since reading up on all this it's now on my list of things to do once a month.

Always make sure your washing machine door is left open as well.

If your seal is still mouldy after trying all the above you may need to replace it.

I bought a second hand machine from ebay not long ago. It smelt horrible! My OH stripped it apart to clean it all and found mold all over the outer drum. We had used everything in the machine in a hot wash before doing this and the mold was still there!
