Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

pushmepullyou · 31/05/2013 21:32

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Urgh feeling like just as I start to get life sorted fate has to step in and remind me I am not in control. I need to add language skills work to my routines. It's a long story, don't ask.

ta da
procrastinate
wash a plastic toy which some how got covered in plaster dust
internet stuff - important and prat about avoiding stuff
2 loads of washing
Deal with credit card stuff.

GoingGoingGoth · 26/06/2013 12:44

Afternoon all, I'm pleased to say I'm at work and that it will be DH who will be collecting an overexcited DD from school in 20 minutes- the summer holiday has started!
Although it does means I'll have the 'usual' crowd lurking around here 7 days a week now.Hmm
Not a lot to report here, it's my 2 long weeks at work, but I am keeping on top of the laundry.

Big waves to everyone.

Jamillalliamilli · 26/06/2013 13:33

Swan that sounds like a truly miserable day for him. I?m impressed you were able to talk to PE dept straight away though. Average wait was three weeks post incident for us and they often wouldn?t reply until the end of term if at all.
It was me who lost patience in the supermarket and sent him to read computer mags because he was getting too angry, but we brought bread and went to find a pond and ducks. The animal world never fails, he and they have an understanding. We now have lots of photo?s of him looking delighted with a boundaryless duck on his lap, hand feeding them and the squirrels, and erm ? a large rat!
Got back and ended up with an apologetic huge teenager wanting to curl up and be cuddled big as he is, and woke up at midnight to discover we?d both fallen asleep, and dispatched him to his own bed.
All now ruined by a huge strop when told if he wanted lunch he had to do the washing up. Apparently I should accept this is what happens when you make someone do something they hate. He?s going to have a shock when I pull that one over decision maths!

Still to do: (sure there's more but can't remember!)
Late lunch for d/s
Dentist for attempted repair of broken front teeth from fall (again)
Call quorn to complain
Call caravan site to see if any chance of a break
Bring HE diary up to date
Research D+T with ds and form a plan
Go to insurance unit, unload drawers, more bits, and take more photo?s
Attack garden
Dinner
Repair jeans
Call friend
Sleeeep

Jamillalliamilli · 26/06/2013 13:34

sorry no gaps there!

Swanhilda · 26/06/2013 14:08

managed to do some routines this morning
more grocery shopping at last minute
ds2 homework for tutor, and taken to tutor

now I need to buy her a box of chocolates as ds2 said very loudly in front of her, Mum didn't you say you were buying a box of chocolates as a goodbye present?Blush SO back to shops yet again. It is his last lesson with tutor, we are not sure about next term's arrangements as she is so booked up after school usually

just overgrown toddlers are the best sort aren't they? Sometimes Hmm Ds1 is very much an overgrown toddler masquerading as a teenager with incipient moustache... unfortunately he has no interest in the animal kingdom or I would try that as a remedy

toffee dd would sleep with cats on her pillow everynight if she could

Better go for another walk then..for the chocs and pickup

ToffeeWhirl · 26/06/2013 19:13

Goodness, you are all very organised about thread leadership.

Have actually done some Flying after the home ed stuff.

Done :

Washing
Drying
Ironing
Cleaned and cleared out fridge
Put away shopping
Dealt with recycling
Swept and mopped kitchen floor

Am unreasonably irritated that my MIL is coming round tomorrow after her hair appointment (the hairdresser is opposite me). My wonderful cleaner is coming round at 1 and I have to fit in home educating DS1 and tidying up the house before she comes. And the sick cat is like a needy baby, needing constant attention. I don't have time to sit down and listen to MIL's 'Daily Mail' chat. ARGHHHHH!

But yes, IABU.

elliepac · 26/06/2013 19:30

Evening allSmile.

Why oh why is DH such an all or nothing person. Tonight he has decided to clean, proper clean. Don't get me wrong, this is appreciated. However, if the other 6 days of the week he actually managed to something, even if he just managed to clean up after himself, he wouldn't need to do a big clean up. And then when he goes on one, I feel I have to join in despite doing the majority of boring day to day shite to keep the house running. Aaaaaargh.

Rant over, as you wereGrin.

DH has done lots of flying. I have done the washing up, taken dc's to swimming lessons to find they had been cancelled due to glass in the pool an had missed an answerphone messageBlush, been to sainsbos and am currently contemplating Wine.

Thread leadership has been very efficiently managed and shall take care of July. Seeing as this is the first whole month I have managed in ages, I might as well step it up next month!

Back laterSmile

ToffeeWhirl · 26/06/2013 19:44

When my DH goes on an all-out clean, I always feel - rightly or wrongly - that it is somehow directed at me, as if I am not doing my job properly. Even though it shouldn't be my job in the first place and even though, like you, I do the day-to-day boring stuff until I am bored out of my brain with it all.

You have my sympathies, Ellie.

elliepac · 26/06/2013 20:07

Thanks toffee. he's still going now. I have given up and am watching tv.

ToffeeWhirl · 26/06/2013 20:13

Good for you, Ellie Smile.

pushmepullyou · 26/06/2013 21:25

God yes, my DH is much the same. He is clearing up after tea now and there is definitely an implication that I should be doing it too even though I am working (!) and was up at 6 this morning washing, tidying and packing for our holiday whereas he got up at 8.

OP posts:
elliepac · 26/06/2013 21:33

Aaaah but I don't do proper work you see pmpy. He does hard physical work, I just sit behind a desk and shout at children apparently. Ignoring the fact I too got up at 6, did some housework, got me and the dc's ready and was out of the door at 8 when he was having a coffee.

BlueEyeshadow · 26/06/2013 21:41

Ta da!
Stripped beds
Laundry done, dry and away
Remade beds
Bought bike! Grin
Weeding
Planted out various seedlings
Watched crazy day at Wimbledon Tennis
Zumba
Cleaned kitchen

Sounds like Toffee, Ellie and PMPY could do with some, at least.

Swanhilda · 26/06/2013 21:55

Dh cut the hedge, and through the hedge clippers flex today Grin That is good. Hedge cut, and no more horrendous hedge clipping noise for a while until he mends it, which is unlikely, as his electrical skills are basic.

I've been at a concert in which ds1 seemed to make up for his lack of particpation in Sports Day. Sweat was pouring off his brow as he dashed from one hot seat to another Shock Abba medleys, Haydn quartets, solos in choir, Muppet show. It was like being at a Prom.
Then I lost him on the way home as I took one bus and he managed to miss it because he had walked aheadConfused so it all ended in tears again by the time we met up [wry Smile Dh has given him some icecream and football coverage to calm him down. Usually he is fine getting home alone, but by 9.30 this area has become a bit more seedy - for example I met someone trying to get money for drugs at the busstop when I got off, and suddenly I feel responsible for ds again.

pushmepullyou · 26/06/2013 22:56

Quick flying links before I collapse in bed (too much work!)

***
Here are the links for the 27th June

The babystep is meal planning. I am good at this one, apart from when I get home late and we all have cheese sandwiches instead of my ealthy and well planned tea Blush

Day 3 in zone 5 and the mission is a fling in the living room

The flight plan is here

The daily focus for Wednesday is errand day.

Water. Yum.

Very impressed by the level of thread leading organisation btw. Perhaps the fat fairy is finally rubbing off on us Grin

pushmepullyou · 26/06/2013 22:58

Now I want to start loads of chatty personals, but if I don't go to bed I'm really really going to regret it!

Hope you are recovering sc if you're around

Honu · 27/06/2013 08:07

Help!!
I logged in a couple of days ago to reply to a thread and now can't log out! Since this is by far the friendliest thread I visit (and, btw, I read it all and it cheers me up no end) please help this numpty. Even switching the pc off doesn't do it.
Thanks.

DorisShutt · 27/06/2013 09:44

My Mumsnet up at the top right has a pull down box for logging out iirc.

I'm mainly mobile version tho so could be wrong!

ToffeeWhirl · 27/06/2013 10:39

Agree with Doris - click on 'My Mumsnet' and it's at the bottom of the pull-down box.

But why do you need to log out, Honu? I leave mine logged in all the time. It's annoying to have to keep logging in every time I turn the computer on.

Spent another night sleeping on mattresses on the floor with DS1 and ToffeeKitten. The antibiotics seem to be working their magic, so I think kitty will be with us for a while longer .

Am feeling a bit overwhelmed. MIL is coming round this morning and I don't have the time or patience to sit with her and listen to her chat, but, luckily, DH is here, so I can go out and get some chores done instead.

Lovely cleaner is coming round this afternoon, so at least the house will look better again later. However, I will have to tidy up everywhere before she gets here.

Hope everyone is ok. And hope, SC, that your op went ok and you are recovering well.

Swanhilda · 27/06/2013 11:17

Done
finally cleared the garden of umpteen sacks of builder's rubble (from under the lawn originally) and my mum's garden rubbish (don't ask)
I used Anyjunk. Well worth the money. Dh did not help at all!!!! okay he helped put some of it in sacks three weeks ago.

So that is my keep fit for today Grin
Have stayed low-carbing this morning again, 3 eggs for breakfast and a tomato!!

now need to tidy garden again - so heavenly to keep rid of all that cr*p after three years!! We were keeping the sand and rubble thinking we might lay another patio, of course we never did Hmm
Have also taken an executive decision and got rid of hideous bright yellow wheelbarrow which was rusting in the corner. It came in useful occasionally, but really was a blight on the landscape. Now all I can see are lovely raspberry canes and wildflowers weeds/rotten fences Smile

notdone
sort out the laundry. We had a trousers crisis this morning - all ds1's school trousers have disappeared except for one manky pair. That's always my wake up call to sort things out, when I can't find anything to wear myself or one simple bit of uniform is missing.

laurenamium · 27/06/2013 13:35

I'm terrible at keeping up and tonight is going to be no better. But I'm reading and flying, I'll be back tomorrow- have a date tonight eek

ToffeeWhirl · 27/06/2013 17:09

lauren - And it's not even Date Night Wink! Hope it goes well Smile.

Swan - well done on all your hard work today. And thanks for mentioning school uniform, as you have reminded me that DS2 has no clean school shirts to wear for tomorrow.

House is much better now, thanks to joint efforts by me and fantastic cleaner. But there is still too much STUFF everywhere, which I conveniently don't notice until I have to move it out of the way to hoover. I can feel a purge coming on.

Managed a little stealth toy clearout in DS2's bedroom whilst he was at school today.

GoingGoingGoth · 27/06/2013 17:54

Hello all, just checking in again.

Good to tell it's the first day of the school holidays-it's raining!
Dd has joined me at work today, so at least I have someone to talk to (and play catch/colouring in etc) as I have had a grand total of 5 customers today (and they all came together)
She's been lovely, I have a stinking cold and she's running round getting me stuff. Can't believe she wants to come back again tomorrow.

Hope you are all having a lovely day.

elliepac · 27/06/2013 18:28

Evening allSmile
