Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

pushmepullyou · 31/05/2013 21:32

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Toffee so sorry, such a lovely little cat.

Asheth · 20/06/2013 23:01

So sorry to hear about your kitten Toffee. I still miss our lovely cat who died last year. Sad

Well, I have done absolutly nothing today apart from making the packed lunches this morning and cooking dinner this evening! I have had, however, a lovely day out with DS3 so even if I have to sit in the naughty corner it was well worth it!

ToffeeWhirl · 21/06/2013 00:50

Thanks again for the lovely messages about our kitten. It's touching to hear those of you who still miss your long-departed cats. It is just dreadfully sad that this has turned out this way, particularly for DS1. We are both sleeping downstairs with the kitten at the moment, so he is getting a lot of cuddles and company.

WhoKnows - sympathies about the bedtimes. It seems to take me all evening to get the boys to bed, as I have to do first one, then the other (thanks to the age gap). I have seen some of those wildlife pictures and they are stunning. Will have a look at the website with DS1.

pushme - so sad about your cat getting run over Sad. I'm glad you have a new one that comes with toddler tolerance as an added extra.

Blue - yes, pedigrees are more prone to things going wrong. However, this breed doesn't set off my cat allergy, which is why I chose it, plus now I'm hooked on them. I suppose it's a risk you have to take if you choose a pedigree.

Funnily enough, my MIL had some mad idea that I would never leave kitty in a cattery because I thought the other cats would ostracise him because he was too posh Grin. DH and I were in hysterics at the thought of all the cats calling him 'Mr La-di-da' and suchlike. MIL has an insecure grip on reality sometimes.

Ellie - arf at accidental clothes shopping Grin.

SC - glad you like the pics. I also posted a sweet one of DS1 sleeping with the kitten, but he was mortified when I showed it to a friend (he was bare chested and apparently that was the most embarrassing thing ever), so I thought I'd better remove it from my profile. Luckily, he never discovered that his pre-adolescent bare chest was on view to the whole of Mumsnet Grin.

Asheth - so sorry about your cat Sad. This is the tough bit about having pets. Oh, and a lovely day out with DS3 is much more important than Flying.

Off to bed on the mattress now. DH has just put another spider out from the hall. There had better not be any more wanderers in the night .

CHBitchy · 21/06/2013 01:33

But did you remember the bread and cat food ellie?

Sleep is a bit of a problem atm. I suspect I shall be suffering with a day of burn out tomo. which is fine as I want to do stuff with ds on sat. so resting in prep is probably a good thing.

ToffeeWhirl · 21/06/2013 09:46

Had a good night on the mattress with kitty, although I was woken once by a bad dream about a large spider (at least, I think it was a dream...).

Have to tidy up the house this morning in preparation for my mum coming to stay tomorrow. Then have DS1's school interview this afternoon.

Might fit in some ironing...

CHBitchy · 21/06/2013 09:53

Good luck to Ds1 with his interview.

To do list:
sleep
collect prescription (attempted this already but wasn't ready hopefully will be later)

ToffeeWhirl · 21/06/2013 09:59

Thanks, Bitchy. The difficult bit will be getting him there!

Hope you manage to get a good sleep.

Jdub · 21/06/2013 10:00

Good morning everyone.
So sorry to hear about your kitten Toffee, but you are making it so comfortable and happy.

I'm slacking abit this week - eldest dc has come down with chicken pox (exactly 2 weeks after his younger bro) and seems to have spots on his spots - poor lad. So a weekend of r&r for us - plus medicinal ice lollies!

Keep well and have a good wknd xx

GoingGoingGoth · 21/06/2013 10:24

Morning all,

So I'm taking your advice and Flying today,

Done
Beds
Laundry on
Dd to school
Washing up
Litter tray
Bins & recycling out

To do (so far)
Hang laundry out
Vacuum
Mop kitchen & bathroom
Windows
Check fridge & food cupboards as DH's shopping can be a bit erratic
Quick trip to shops

Feel a bit smug as bedroom is pretty much up to standard, so 15 mins in there should sort it out Grin

DorisShutt · 21/06/2013 10:58

Signing in with heavy eyes and urgh feelings.

My sore throat is back and I have a severe lack of sleep as DS was up in the night with a nasty cough so I ended up sleeping on his floor - and then he woke me again at 4 and that was me for the day. I have to go into work tomorrow, so DH has volunteered to sleep with him if required. Thankfully I have a GP appointment about my anaemia or lack thereof, so I will get her to check it out.

Been to supermarket this morning, and am waiting for the other one to deliver Blush

Hoping that DS has a long nap - coz I'm going to have one too I think!

GoingGoingGoth · 21/06/2013 12:40

Doris hope you feel brighter soon. Good post today, very positive (does this make me your stalker?)

When will I learn not to brag on here?! Our bedroom was fine, but then I went to dust (yes really) in DD's room Hmm. Something has been spilt down the back of her storage unit. Ugh, was going black on the walls, but luckily not too much in her storage boxes, so they are now washed and so I just need to reload them with toys and put them away.

So updated Done
Beds
Laundry on
Dd to school
Washing up
Litter tray cleaned
Bins & recycling out
S&S
Laundry hung out
Dusting-part done, need to do lounge
Cleaned yuck in DD's room
Vacuuming- need to do DD's room
Mopped bathroom & kitchen

To do
Nip to shops & Post Office
Finish dusting & vacuuming
Collect DD
Dinner

CHBitchy · 21/06/2013 15:01

Could the feeling yucky in throat etc be hayfever related the pollen levels have been unusually high. Ridiculously high in fact. My throat and sinuses hate me as a result and it would be nice for some rain to clear the pollen from the air.

ta da
sleep

I really want a cup of coffee but I know I will not sleep later if I do. not sure if I can face decaff though :/

ToffeeWhirl · 21/06/2013 17:22

Oh, is that why I'm so wheezy at the moment, Bitchy? My inhalers aren't working as effectively as they usually do.

Goth - good list. And at least you found and dealt with the yucky black spill.

Doris - sympathies on lack of sleep and general yuckiness. I hope you feel better soon.

Jdub - sorry about the chickenpox. Hope you have some soothing cream and lots of DVDs to get him and you through the weekend.

DS1 managed to get to the school interview, then froze with anxiety once there. However, he got through it all and they have invited him back for a trial week the week after next, starting with half days to ease him in. So that's one hurdle over with.

DorisShutt · 21/06/2013 17:45

GP appointment over and done. Anaemia is resolved and iron levels are normal. Sore throat is a viral thing going round the area just now - keep it until it gets better.

Bitchy pollen count here is low (on the coast) so for once that's not an issue - yet! I know when it is pollen season here, as my sinuses go nuts, but so far it's been okay.

On the downside, BIL and I have had a disagreement via the spawn of satan that is Facebook. Long and slightly involved, but hey ho - he is unreasonable in this case, not me so he can grovel later. Angry Sad

CHBitchy · 21/06/2013 19:20

I wish the pollen levels were lower here. my eyes are weepy now and my nose and sinuses still hate me. Need to find the allergy tablets.

DorisShutt · 21/06/2013 20:31

You need to move up here then Bitchy Grin

Admittedly it's currently only 13 degrees... oh, and foggy! Confused

CHBitchy · 21/06/2013 20:48

Is there ice? I don't mind cold. Just need ice.

DorisShutt · 21/06/2013 20:57

Not currently, but in winter there is a fair bit. That and we have ice rinks!

pushmepullyou · 22/06/2013 07:46

Morning everyone Smile

Bit of a link fail last night as I didn't have my laptop. I don't expect anyone's missed out too much buy not being able to do 7am cleanining though Grin

Rigth then on with the day! I was going to do the Shred but I can hear DS awake upstairs and I have found out through bitter experience that todddlers and organised exercise do not mix well in this house!

Hope DS' inteview went ok yesterday toffee and that you're feeling better this morning doris.

In other news I have actually lost a pound Grin, Grin, Grin. now to eact cake and put iit all back on!

List for today
Do some exercise
Do not put the pound back on!
Room rescue bedroom
Detail clean bedroom
Transfer money to DH's bank account
Go to tip
Have some sort of family fun! (looks suspiciously like ikea atm)
Write packing list for holiday
15 mins decluttering in the living room

OP posts:
ToffeeWhirl · 22/06/2013 09:01

pushme - well done on losing that pound!

Went out to the pub with friends last night, then couldn't sleep when I arrived home, so I'm suffering for it this morning. Have just waved DH and DS2 off for the day (they are going up to London to visit the Shard) and am considering going back to bed. However, DS1 has his best friend here and I need to cook breakfast for them, plus the house needs tidying in readiness for my mum who's arriving this afternoon. So I think I'll drink coffee, then maybe catch a quick nap, with kitty, later.

In defiance of his bleak diagnosis, ToffeeKitten is on good form this morning and has scooted upstairs as if there's never been anything wrong with him. Crossing my fingers this lasts for a good long time.

ToffeeWhirl · 22/06/2013 09:02

I need a kick-up-the-arse plan. Will use the power of three...

  1. Coffee
  2. Clear dining-room table
  3. Washing up
Trazzletoes · 22/06/2013 09:14

Hello! I've come to realise that even 12 hours at work makes a huge difference to what I can achieve in a week, especially as those 12 hours are half of my DD-free time.

The house is, as usual, a total sty and I'm wondering how many years it will be before I can have a day even to myself to start dealing with it. It makes me feel quite down actually. I hate living like this but other family members seem to think I can just wave a magic wand, DD will unclamp from my leg, suddenly learn to walk and not shove anything and everything in her mouth and leave me to do everything.

I have no plan for today because I can't even see where to start apart from crying on the sofa.

ToffeeWhirl · 22/06/2013 09:29

Oh, Trazzle, you have enough to worry about without adding housework to your list, but I do understand how down a messy house can make you feel. Can DH help you with the housework today? And could you just do a couple of room rescues (or just one), so that you have one room which feels less overwhelming.

I'm afraid I used to end up resorting to television to entertain my DSs when I really needed to get on with housework and they were at the clingy stage.
