Is June the new January? - the Fledgling Flyers are doing their flaming best

pushmepullyou · 31/05/2013 21:32

Welcome old and new fledglings to the June Fledgling FLYers thread! Smile

Thank you very much to castlelough for leading us expertly through May - I shall try not to be too haphazard with June, although I make no promises Wink

If you're overwhelmed by clutter and general household grub then join us as we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system or languish in the naughty corner hoping to do better tomorrow Grin

As usual, we will be following the Flylady three-pronged approach:

  1. Baby-steps (a daily step to establish routines)
  2. Then baby-steps + 15 mins daily decluttering
  3. (And once decluttered) babysteps + daily missions and maybe even detailed cleaning in the weekly zones

For more information have a look here, although to avoid a cluttered inbox, we advise not signing up to the Flylady emails. The basic principle is little and often and don't worry about perfection (no chance of that here!).

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on and chat our way through the month.

Btw Swan doesn't sound pompous at all ... I think we mahoosively underestimate the effects of what we eat on our health and wellbeing. Tis good to seek clarity ifyswim.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/06/2013 14:04

Swan - I know exactly what you mean, if I avoid bread / simple carbs during the day I am much less prone to energy peaks and troughs and cravings later in the day. But it is really hard, I love bread. I sometimes manage to give it up during the week and feel much better, then treat myself at the weekend and really notice the difference.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/06/2013 14:27

re the touch typing BTW, what has prompted this is that DS's occupational therapist recommended that he should start learning, which made me think that perhaps I should too. I can type pretty fast watching the keyboard, so it has never been a problem that I can't touch type properly, however I thought I'd give it a bash. Although I have always worked with computers it has mainly been using software that requires a lot of clicking the mouse in between inputting the odd word or number; I use Word a lot but it is nearly all editing old documents or writing short new ones. I've never had to copy stuff that has been written by someone else on a regular basis.

ToffeeWhirl · 20/06/2013 14:43

It's a very useful skill, WhoKnows, and doesn't take long to learn. You just need to keep practising to build up speed.

Am Envy of your DS's occupational therapist. DS1 has been on the waiting list for nearly two years and we are looking into private now. He will have left school by the time his referral comes through!

Still no word from the vet. I hate this waiting. Kitty seems perfectly happy today, so long as he is on my lap or shoulder, which does make Flying tricky (genuine excuse).

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/06/2013 15:00

DS has actually been discharged by the OT now Toffee Sad but he did have two years worth. This is one of the things on my list to do, look for a private one. Trouble is not sure how much he still needs it, the NHS one said he didn't (she would, she wanted to discharge him). A private one will probably say he does (because they want the business). Hope vet calls soon.

superfluouscurves · 20/06/2013 15:54

Arrggghhhh!!!

[Comes back on line for 5 mins to try and stop myself from exploding at dd who has left vital bit of quadrilateres revision (for exam tomorrow) at school. This is about the eighth or ninth time this has happened this term [sigh]. Normally would let her suffer natural consequences (not that that seems to help) but this is too important. She's not doing it on purpose I think. She is just dreadfully scatty, would leave her limbs on the bus if they weren't attached ...]

whoknows one way to practice is to listen to audio novel or similar and then try and type it out wearing blindfold at same speed it is being spoken!

Fingers crossed re: vet Toffee

Right, school run no. 2 ....

CHBitchy · 20/06/2013 16:26

GoingGoingGoth · 20/06/2013 17:33

Quick pop in, , loves picture of bakery SC

Bitchy do we get a picture?

Yes, you are both right, it's much more sensible to Fly tomorrow (especially as on school trip on Monday)

Just realised that it's the next two weeks that I will be covering holidays at work, so doing 6 days on, 2 days off! Eeck! 59 hours!

BBL

GoingGoingGoth · 20/06/2013 17:34

Does my post look ok? I am using app.

ToffeeWhirl · 20/06/2013 17:35

ToffeeKitten has feline infectious peritonitis, which is incurable. I have told DS1 and he's being brave, but he's angry. I told him we just have to make sure kitty has the best life possible. Poor little thing. And poor DS1 to finally have his own pet and for this to happen. This was meant to help his anxieties. It's so bloody unfair on him.

Was going to do the ironing, but am going to open a bottle of Wine instead.

CHBitchy · 20/06/2013 17:40

Goth - picture? Shock I don't do pictures.
Toffee :( sorry to hear that. Poor kitten. And poor ds 1

Trazzletoes · 20/06/2013 17:45

---------------

Will join you all in a consolatory Wine tonight.

Poor kitten Sad

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/06/2013 18:50

Oh no Toffee, so sorry. I have just found your thread about him and clicked on your profile to see the photos, he looks adorable.

ToffeeWhirl · 20/06/2013 19:10

Thank you everyone. It's nice to get all the kind messages. I know he's just a kitten, but we bought him to help DS1 cope with his OCD/anxieties and he was meant to be a symbol of hope for the future. And then we all fell in love with the kitten. DH, the most cynical of us all and the most grumpy about having anything to disrupt his daily life to accommodate a pet, has fallen hook, line and sinker and often comes back with little treats for him.

Anyway, the important thing now is to make sure this kitten has the happiest short life possible and help DS1, in particular, cope with this very hard life lesson.

superfluouscurves · 20/06/2013 20:53

lovely pictures Toffee partic 'Kitten Strachey' and cat nap Smile Sad

BlueEyeshadow · 20/06/2013 21:49

So sorry to hear about ToffeeKitten. These posh cats are a worry. MIL's Siamese suddenly got very ill in the last few days. They do seem more prone to things. :(

elliepac · 20/06/2013 21:50

Evening allSmile.

To do list done cba to write a ta da list.

Popped to sainsbos for some bread and cat food and ended up with jeans, tops and a handbag. Whoops.

Signing off for an early night. Still hungover from last night's partyWinkGrin

pushmepullyou · 20/06/2013 22:14

Oh no toffee, poor kitten, poor all of you Sad. Our best cat in the world got run over a couple of years ago just before Christmas. I was absolutely devastated and I still miss him from time to time. Fortunately I've been helped by my new best cat in the world who has an amazing capacity for being bullied by toddlers!

Re touch typing, I can't touch type, but I can type very fast with one eye on the keyboard - about 60 words per minute. I'd like to learn to touch type, but so far have been suffering from a bit of cba, not least becasue most things I type are from my head rather than copying text so i have no need to have my eyes anywhere other than the keyboard.

I am so so tired (morning shred followed by too much travelling) so if you don't mind I may just post the links and collapse into bed. Sleepy wingflaps to all!

Here are the links for the 21st June

The babystep is to read the Ask Flylady questions. Never done this and not likely to tbh!

It's our last day in zone 4, in which I have done nothing yet this week, and the mission is decluttering your dressing table. Happily mine's not too bad so I may even manage this one!

The flight plan is here and the daily focus for Fridayis [http://www.flylady.net/d/daily-focus/daily-focus%20-friday/ declutter your bag and car day]]. I have lost my bank card if that counts? (not all bad news though as it meant I had to buy the new boots on DH's card Grin )

Water's really good for you. Drink lots!

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 20/06/2013 22:25

Evening all,

Work today but had to leave early for physio appt, so I was at home for an hour before the school run. Managed a bit of tidying and hoovered the boudoir (long overdue). Also gave my sheepskin bedside rug a thoroughly good brushing with the DCs Tangle Teaser, which was strangely therapeutic.

After school picked the DCs up in the car and whisked them off to Basingstoke to see the Wildlife Photographer of the Year exhibition, if you get a chance to see it on tour do go, the photos are amazing. Or you could look at them online. Then a bit of shopping and tea in Pizza Hut (diet fail alert).

Home again for a bit of MNing and the DCs bedtime, which didn't go too well, in fact it never seems to at the moment, they just faff about, dilly dally, take ages getting ready, it is driving me mad. Managed another hour or so of tidying and have decluttered half a dozen pairs of shoes.

Off to bed in a minute, need to sew elastics on DD's new ballet shoes first. The dance school big show is coming up, so we are in a whirl of rehearsals, costume, hair putting up practice etc.
