How can I get rid of this awful smell from my fridge-freezer?

My fridge-freezer randomly stopped working mid-last week. I cleared it out after a couple of days, so nothing actually went badly off in there. Took everything out, unplugged it, and cleaned it out with kitchen spray. We can't get anyone out to come and look at it til later this week.

Since clearing it out the smell in there has gradually been getting worse. It's not really an off-food smell; I can't really describe it but it's grim! Any tips for what I can use / what I should do to get rid of the smell? TIA!

A small dish of baking soda/bicarbonate of soda can help to soak up smells?

Thanks I'll try that!

if it isn't working, you have to leave the door open.

it will be worth pulling it away from the wall and cleanuing out the drip dish on top of the motor, where ther dirty condensdate water goes. It will be full of fluff and mould. Unplug the appliance first and do not let water get on any electrical part.

If it is a frost-free freezer it might have stopped due to the ducts being choked with ice. Once water has stopped dripping out front and back and you have left the doors open for a day to dry, plug in back in and it may work again.

Thanks. The verdict from the fridge man is that the compressor has gone and the part will take a week to come in! Another week with no fridge or freezer arghhh! I have out a bowl of bicarb in, and have now wedged the doors open; thanks for the tip.

Sprinkle freeze dried coffee granules onto a plate, leave it there for a few days. Worked a treat for me
