Welcome to the May Fledgling FLYers thread! :-)
... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent.

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on. Thanks to SC, Blue, Silvery and Goth for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Good afternoon.

Well For a change I can't be blamed for the huge list. Had a family fun day here. Took ds out for a much longer then intended walk. He loved it and was a nightmare to persuade to come home. Unfortunately as it was not planned as a long walk I am only just now eating lunch and have some very interesting burn marks scorched into my shoulders :( Wanted an hour out first thing (around 10am) to avoid the sun.

Reminder: check your sunscreen it does go out of date and will stop working

other then that ta da is:
1 load of washing

soon to be 2 when I have finished lunch and found the bits of uniform for ds that will be needed tomo. Although I think as it is so nice I will force him to wear short so I don't have to bother moving. Currently curled up on my bed whilst ds does something creative with lego in the lounge.

No intentions of doing anything else at all today.

GoingGoingGoth · 06/05/2013 18:00

Hello, quick check in, had a 2nd Family Fun Day here, probably a result of yesterday's CBA.

Went to the cinema's kids club, along with half of Glasgow, so couldn't get in there, so instead of seeing Sammy's Great Escape we watched The Croods, which I found funny just because Nick Cage voiced the dad.

Then a trip to the city to get this month's birthday cards and presents (I'm not missing DH's this year) plus a quick trip to the fabric shop as I'm redoing DD's bed canopy plus some discounted wool

Think I was suffering from caffiene withdrawal, but DH has been supplying me with cups of Brew since getting home and I feel quite lively now!

To do
Ironing
Washing up & SS
Cleaning sides

Big waves to everyone, as I will read thread properly later.

Evening all
Not much FLYing today as the weather is too nice but did clothes wash, couple of hot spots and (even better) DH cleaned floors and kitchen while I prepped dinner. No chance of doing the homicidal hour though, filth will have to wait until next week!!
Doris my blog is Crafts on Sea if you want to take a look. Have actually mentioned this thread on there today! (Just telling people to come here not to go to the Flylady proper site of doom)
Hope everyone else is enjoying the good weather and leaving the dusting until tomorrow!!

The dreaded ironing. I will def have to do it because there aren't any school trousers for ds2 ready.
Not going to do any studying because I've just checked and my last assignment hasn't been marked yet. tsk. Not that I'd have done any anyway Blush

Dp has just asked one of our neighbours to help him carry the old fridge/freezer downstairs and oh the shame. There is loads of greasy, sticky crap all up the side and back Blush Blush

DorisShutt · 06/05/2013 21:07

Not my blog Bitchy.

Mine is strictly anonymous and all about me - more as an incentive to get off my arse. It probably will mention FlyLady, but not Mumsnet - this place is mine, all mine I tell ya...

CHBitchy · 06/05/2013 21:08

Actually I am fuming about the blogging with the direct link to the thread and tbh am going to say something. Personally I think it is completely out of line to walk onto a thread and within a few days be posting a complete link to the thread on a blog. It clearly shows you have no understanding for the actual ethos of this thread Crafts there are many support threads for fly lady and you could have suggested people google for a support group rather then directing directly here!!!!

The reason why this thread has lasted so well is because it has been more then just about housework. The thread has built up a very close support network for people going through some very rough times. YOU might have come to understand that if you had taken the time to fully get to know the thread. We are incredibly welcoming BUT clearly this because of the closeness of the group. There support here is amazing but it is not something that we will be able to continue in the same manner as previously done.

Yes I know this is the internet and we are having an open conversation but that is different from someone coming across the conversation rather being directly directed to it on mass.

NickNacks · 06/05/2013 21:11

I agree sorry guys I need to take a step back. :(

SilveryMoon · 06/05/2013 21:29

Erm. Not entirely sure how I feel about it tbh. The thing is, I (as others) post here, on this thread, and although I am aware that it is public, that anyone and everyone who chooses to can look and find it and read my posts etc, it's what I have chosen.
I was about to say that I didn't agree to have information I have posted to be put on a blog for God knows who to see, but then MNHQ wouldn't ask permission from me personally to use a quote from a post of mine in one of their books or articles and there are twitter and fb tabs at the top of threads to share (and I have shared some bloody funny threads on my fb page).
I do think it would have been considerate for crafts to have tested the waters and seen how we all felt about putting a direct link to this thread on her blog but we are posting in the public domain......
I'm sure that it didn't even cross her mind that people would have an issue with it, am sure she just wants to share something that she has found helpful with others.
I love this thread, talking shit to everyone here and I would hate for it to change.
I know I have probably failed miserably at trying to be diplomatic there.......

pushmepullyou · 06/05/2013 21:47

I've been lurking more than posting recently but I have to admit I'm a bit uncomfortable with the thread being linked as well.

The thing that keeps me here is the friendships I've built up on the thread over the past 3ish years and I know I've talked about a lot of RL stuff that would definitely out me if anyone cba to piece it together.

Although we're posting publicly on the thread we're not publicised and give the relatively limited appeal of housework as a conversational topic Wink I've always felt that the risk of someone I know stumbling across it is low enough to be worth taking. That does change if it is linked on a blog, which by its nature is actively seeking readers.

Jamillalliamilli · 06/05/2013 22:41

Pushme has summed up my feelings perfectly. None of it?s deeply secret but I?d rather not actively publicise or encourage random viewing.

I assume it?s possible for Crafts to remove the blog post once she realises. Perhaps the request not to link this thread should be put in the intro.

BlueEyeshadow · 06/05/2013 22:42

Oh dear, I can see both sides of this argument. I'm personally very open about my identity online but I know others are more concerned to be anonymous. I suspect it won't be as disastrous as all that - the thread survived the monster intake last January, after all - and hope that Bitchy will come back and also that crafts won't be scared off.

We've had a very nice Bank Holiday today - the community choir I go to was singing at a May Day Fair that I'd never otherwise have come across. The boys had a great time with activities, donkey rides and a scarily un-PC Punch & Judy show. DH was a little more frazzled trying to keep up with them though. No flying, but did some tidying up in the garden later, so that ought to count for something. Also a highly successful tea, with DS1 eating 4 helpings of pasta with tomato sauce, lamb, mushrooms and onions - something he'd never normally touch. Must have worked up an appetite. :)

Got to get back into routines tomorrow though.

PositiveAttitude · 06/05/2013 23:47

I have been on here since the year dot and I must say I am uncomfortable with the blog link, but I do think we should just nicely ask Crafts to consider removing the link and being a bit more discrete.

This IS more than a fly lady thread and I consider a number of these people on here as my friends, having met some and had some in depth contact with other's over the years. We have always made an effort not to be cliquey and I honestly think we could not have done better, but if we have loads of newbies turning up all at once (like the dreaded New Year Thread which has become legendary! Grin ) then the whole ethos of the thread will shift and I do not think that the strong support and friendship on here would remain the same.

Busy day yesterday so very little done.
Off travelling to the countryside today. 2 hour drive each way - we do it once a week, but today we have a Dr over from NZ and we are expecting hundreds of villagers to come from miles around to see him. They dont have Drs in the villages and have to travel into the city for medical care normally - they can't even afford the bus fare to get into the city, so the vast majority never see a Dr. So today is a big day and we are expecting big things. I am hoping that the Dr can help and heal many people here. Its going to be a very long hot day!!! But our lovely friends have invited us for tea so that I dont need to do anything on our return. Yay for thoughtful friends. Smile

Hope you have all had a lovely restful BH weekend in the sunshine. I hear it was warm.

Castlelough · 06/05/2013 23:52

Massive apologies but I CAN'T get the links to load on my mum's laptop this evening. I can't get onto Mumsnet or even Google. Angry
I will be back super early with the links, in the morning, when hopefully things will be back to normal... Sad

Castlelough · 07/05/2013 01:21

Oh dear. I have just caught up with the thread.
It appears to me that Crafts was well -meaning in trying to point her readers our way because she feels it would be more beneficial for them than tackling the Flylady website. And really, it is a compliment to the thread that she thinks the thread is so useful.

But I amn't quite comfortable either with the link idea. I'm sure Crafts could edit that bit out of her blog, and restore the happy medium here.
I really hope nobody will leave the thread. We can sort this out, surely? Shock Sad

Hey all. Came on here to post about the fact that today I am planning to get back on the flylady wagon and see a whole can of worms has been opened.

Fwiw, as another who has been here since the inception (well a month after) I will echo what pa has said. She has put it far better than I could (no change there thenGrin) and leave it at that.

Fly wise I need a list today to get me going:-

Morning routine
Work
Parents Evening
Evening routine.
Washing
Drying

Short but i won't get home until 7 so that rather limits what I can do. (that's my excuse and am sticking to itWinkGrin).

pushmepullyou · 07/05/2013 07:33

WeLl on the plus side all the excitement appears to have encouraged me back on the wagon Grin

I think this weeks zone will be the kitchen (really should know by now!) And mine certainly needs a bit of a polish!

List for today...

Clean mud off sofa arm
Lots of laundry
Paid work
Gym
15 mins gardening
Room rescue bedroom
Room rescue entrance

elliepac · 07/05/2013 08:04

Me too pmpy, me tooGrin. Shall we see who lasts longestWinkGrin. My money's on you!

DorisShutt · 07/05/2013 08:21

Good morning all.

I'm a bit concerned that my blog has caused issues. As stated to Bitchy above, my blog is purely about me. I do expect to mention Flylady as an offshoot, but have no plans to mention either Mumsnet or this thread. Contributors of any ideas I pinch will be provided with a witness identity program! Wink

Now, back to flying - I don't want to sound like a slacker coz I am but other than getting a load of washing out, I have no fixed plans. The Met Office is predicting rain for my area for the next few days, so it's make fun while the sun shines for me. I do need to pop to the supermarket for stuff for DS (he has a party this weekend which was sprung on us yesterday at nursery) so am off to pick up some toys as gifts.

Have a lovely day all!

Craftsonsea · 07/05/2013 09:07

Oh heck, sorry I had no idea this would offend or upset anyone! I mentioned it because, as I stated previously, I was on this thread a while ago (under a different name) and I found it really helpful and recommended it to friends at the time. I've taken out any reference to Mumsnet (the link was to Good Housekeeping rather than this thread but I see your point) I didn't mention any other support threads on other sites as I wasn't aware there were any!

Castlelough · 07/05/2013 09:18

LINKS FOR TUESDAY 7th MAY

Babystep 7 is an important one - lay out your clothes at night for the following day!

The Daily Focus for Tuesday is to Plan and Play....

The coming week sees us moving into Kitchen. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

Today?s mission is to sort through your plastic food storage containers and declutter them.

The Flight Plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

OP posts:
Castlelough · 07/05/2013 09:21

Thank you Crafts Thanks.
Doris I don't think you need to worry.

As for directing anyone our way.....they would take one look at us and run right over to the Flylady website - we definitely do more chatting than flapping in here! Grin

Hope everyone has a good day today. I am not back to work until tomorrow Smile but have to travel home from my parents house this afternoon and pick up the pieces at the Castle so that should be fun Hmm

Wingflaps to everyone!

It's probably a useful reminder to us all that the interwebs are essentially public in any case.

At the moment I'm supposed to be working but am instead MNing and unpicking a random and pointless bit of itchy braid round the neck of an M&S T-shirt. Confused
