Welcome to the May Fledgling FLYers thread! :-)
... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent.

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on. Thanks to SC, Blue, Silvery and Goth for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Engels I know what you mean about struggling to keep the place clean with a toddler in tow, I do a bit here and there but.... Hmm, it's why I'm back here again tbh.
Doris have just had a look at you blog, it's a great idea :) I started mine to get me to get off my backside (although in a different kind of way iykwim)
Have been a bit rubbish at flying today although clothes are cleaned, sink looks reasonable and have taken a bag of stuff to the charity shop so will start tomorrow's baby step now by only telling myself positive things!!

Craftsonsea · 04/05/2013 20:13

doris suddenly worried in case what I wrote above sounds harsh? I meant to say that blogging is a good way to motivate you to achieve the things you want. Ugh, been up since 5.20 with DS (who was also up in the night) and am struggling today to say or think anything that makes sense..

Swanhilda · 04/05/2013 20:16

Nothing to report, except

a beautiful day

did as usual on Sat, catechism, music school

but Flying wise, did hoover our bedroom
move some pots in the garden

DH cooked some Thai food with dd [pat on back to him] - of course no-one ate it except the grownups Grin Delicious!
neighbours with three little boys invited ds2 over (three years older than the eldest of them Shock to play football so that was a nice surprise

and I felt powerful shades of Blue's thoughts on Saturdays. I so sympathise, I used to think I was the only family in the world who couldn't seem to combine useful jobs at weekend with family time and nice little outings, and just ended up with everyone mooching around or being forced to go to local playground yet again. My little boys just didn't seem to do "projects" or "play around" us as we worked. Very stressful. A bit better now, but still at weekends my hackles do tend to rise that reality does not live up to ideal.

Dd has done brilliantly decorated her room though, posters, yellow duvet, new lampshade, moved everything round..

Gingerodgers · 04/05/2013 20:24

Ooo, I am loving this? How come I only just found it?

DorisShutt · 04/05/2013 20:43

crafts makes perfect sense Smile and that's exactly why I'm doing it - to make me do things; diet or exercise, and/or other things I make me feel better about myself.

Will have a look at your blog if you gimme the address?

newbiebaby · 04/05/2013 22:12

First day down must admit I embraced the family day more than flying but hey ho the sun was out! Had a lovely day with preschooler dd and baby ds and husband but also managed to declutter three hot spots and am having an early night - so far so not so bad:)

Hello to Newbiebaby and Gingerodgers
Trazzles good to hear the scan went ok, and hope you got a good day.
PA hope today was better.

Sends remote drone into naughty corner searching for Wine. Today's been spent stuck flat on my back, so have fingers crossed for tomorrow.
I?ve been reading up what d/s wants to add to home ed in Sept; decision maths, and systems and control technology.

I?m seriously wondering if I have any hope of understanding them and have been left with a massive headache

newbiebaby · 05/05/2013 07:17

Am getting into this now (first flush of excitement/enthusiasm emoticon;) )
Already swished and swiped this morning!!!

Trazzletoes · 05/05/2013 07:50

Thanks all. We were out of hospital by lunchtime and headed off to a safari park to see lions and tigers Grin

There is still washing up everywhere but I don't care Smile though DH is planning on a cooking extravaganza today so I probably ought to get ahead of the washing up before he starts...

DorisShutt · 05/05/2013 08:14

Off to the park today, although DH let me have a lovely long lie (marred only by really weird dreams Hmm ) and then a family supermarket trip.

Cleaning my sink... well, it's clean but cluttered as there is a heap of "things that take ages to dry and soak dish towels if you try" air drying there from last night. Everything else is still okay though! Mostly Wink

SilveryMoon · 05/05/2013 10:56

I'm here. I'm hungover. Not sure how much I'll get done today. Good job there's an extra day this weekend to tackle it all!
CBA to post a list, or get off the sofa.

PositiveAttitude · 05/05/2013 11:04

Oh silvery. Grin

Yesterday I did 3 loads of washing, went out and came back to all 3 loads strewn around the outside of the house on the ground covered in mud and filthy after being blown off the drying rail during a massive storm. SO, guess what I have done today??? Yep, 5 loads of washing (cos it was wet and so filthy I had to split it all up) and I have got no further than where I was yesterday afternoon! Grrrrr.
Just put the last lot out to dry today when another storm arrived. That one has now passed - hum-dinger of a storm! But another is a-brewing! Not going to get any further today.
Despite that I have a sparkling kitchen and clean bathrooms. I am also getting very eager to get a new cleaner cos cleaning in this heat kills me!! Wink

Have a good Bank holiday all you English bods. Smile

CHBitchy · 05/05/2013 12:22

Good morning.
flying? Hahahahaha nah.

MayBeFlying · 05/05/2013 15:08

done

trip to tesco [joy]

to do
move stuff to where it should be . Why and how are there so many piles of Stuff around the house? We've decluttered loads too - it's mainly laundry in varying states of cleanliness/dryness/decay.
water garden [sunshine at sodding last]

Castlelough · 05/05/2013 18:59

Welcome to our new fledglings MayBeFlying , Gingerodgers and newbiebaby!

It has been a lazy Bank Holiday Sunday here and I'm afraid I have been lounging in the naughty corner with Silvery and Bitchy today but I amn't actually at home so I have a good excuse Grin

Poor PA has been struggling with Mt. Washmore. Hopefully Mother Nature will give you a break soon!

Doris has been enjoying a trip to the park and Trazzles is hopefully putting her feet up and being wined and dined by MrTrazzles.

Just I think you are amazing to even attempt home-eding at such a high level. I take my hat off to you! Hope you can get some support with it. xx

Well that was a quick round-up for today. Am off out Shock to meet up with some friends I haven't seen in ages. Haven't been out at 'home' in years so I am looking forward to it. It's a pity DH couldn't have come. Am contemplating wearing my new fab dress.....feels like a lot of effort....hmmm

LINKS FOR MONDAY 6th MAY

Babystep 6 is to learn about ?Hot Spots? and spend a few minutes putting out your hot spots!

The Daily Focus for Monday is to do the Weekly Home Bleurgh?Blessing, which is a 60 minute minimal scurry around your home to dust, sweep, mop, tidy, polish, purge, and sort out the bins and most weeks I still can?t even manage this much in one go Blush--

The coming week sees us moving into Kitchen. We are decluttering, or detailed cleaning, in this zone for 15 minutes a day.

Today?s mission is to scrub down your kitchen worktops.

The Flight Plan for our daily routines, should update automatically.

Finally, the habit for the month of May is to get Moving!

Bloody hell. Someone please give me a drink!

Just got back. Fabulous w/e but horrible traffic on the way home and dd has just had a total meltdown (over-tired). Dh in bad mood.

I am scunnered Grin

NickNacks · 05/05/2013 21:28

Will join you on that drink sc Glad your home eventually :)

My weekend has been weird. Really relaxed but busy...does that make sense? Ds's went away with their grandad, (not amused that they've both come back sunburnt!) and dd went to my parents for 1 night. It was just to give me some time to myself (DH was working) but she sobbed when she left (loves it at my parents usually) and it made me come back inside and cry. Turns out she was tired and slept in the car over to theirs but it made me feel incredibly guilty.

Today they've all been returned to me in various states of hunger, filth and tiredness so they've all been bathed, fed and put to bed! DH is working again and I'm chilling with a Brew

MT washmore has taken over so must be tackled tomorrow :)

superfluouscurves · 06/05/2013 08:57

Good morning my lovelies!! Hope you all enjoyed the sunshine over the weekend!

Despite stressful return last night, we definitely all benefited from fresh air and green fields this w/e, highlights of which included (esp for dd and friends) catching a frog, playing 'farm golf' (wooden clog nailed to branch, small football, points deducted for hitting cows) splashing about and building a dam in the river.

Back to urban reality last night when some twonk decided to park his motorcycle outside our front door on pavement, some time after which its alarm started to sound LOUDLY every 3 mins or so for 1 hr 20 mins (owner had gone to theatre performance). Cue me poised on door-step in dressing gown and slippers, arms folded and bosom hoisted a la Les Dawson, ready with a few words of choice French upon his return at just before midnight Angry. Then woken at 5.45 am this morning by arrival of three enormously long vehicles loaded with planks for the building site two doors down (which was actually a blessing in disguise as dd needed to get up early to do homework) but arrrggghhhh - really tired of urban living!

Tempted to head off to peace and quiet next weekend too (yet another school holiday here Thurs and Fri for Ascension). Speaking of which, had better make the most of the 2 and a half days that dd is at school this wk:

Ta da:
hwk supervision Blush
ironing of uniform Blush
polishing of dd school shoes Blush
morning routine inc wm, rabbits (but haven't yet done s&s or dw)
climbed wobbly ladder in garden to cull lilac for dd to take to school for statue of Vierge Marie (there's a flower rota for May)
emptied/put away dry/non-fridge food stuffs from w/e
put first load of washing out to dry
put second load of washing on

To do:
empty suitcase
find wet swimsuit Blush
take picnic rugs and take other weekend stuff out of hall and put away
tidy bathroom and s&s
call two friends
call sister
tidy kitchen
tidy sitting room
bank transfer
admire clear dining room table non-hot-spot!! [smug emoticon]
pair 30 pairs + of dh's socks :( (which are all dark grey, navy or black so look exactly the same but each have minute variation - arrggghh)
hunt for dd's lost wero file (= geography)
hunt for dd's lost school report form last term
hunt for lost fountain pen (mine)
put away ironed clothes in boudoir
tidy dd's chest of drawers
wash dh and my bed linen
supper tonight?

poss quick supermarket shop
as much tidying/decluttering in boudoir as poss
prep cold white wash
do mixed coloureds wash
WATCH BADMINTON HORSE TRIALS ON BBC2 in peace before dd gets home! then probably watch it again with her Wink Grin
hwk supervision
evening routine
meal planning
on-line supermarket order
early bed

That'll do for now but there is LOADS more ...

A very warm welcome to MayBeFlying , Gingerodgers and newbiebaby!

Nicknacks child-free time definitely necessary from time to time so don't be too hard on yourself - good luck with Mt Rushmore

Thanks for links Castle - Glad we are in kitchen zone this week - it needs a thorough scrub! Hope you had a fab night out catching up with old friends.

Hope you were wined and dined in style Trazzles Glad your scan was clear. I think extreme stress of the kind you have been experiencing can have a massively negative impact on your digestive system. Be kind to yourself x

Hope you have recovered Silvery

At work today, and skiving a bit to post this Blush Fast day today (technically my second, but my first for blogging purposes!) so am hoping to be quite busy and not feel the urge to eat.

Managed to empty the dishwasher and swish and swipe before leaving for work this morning (no thanks to a sloth-like DH) so I'm quite chuffed.

Suspect I won't post again until later unless I'm starving and need distraction, so I hope you all have a lovely bank holiday. Have a Brew on me Smile

Castlelough · 06/05/2013 14:52

Silvery and SC lists like those are not allowed on bank holiday Monday!!!
You will scare the new fledglings away

Good luck with your fast Doris
Enjoying being at home and spoiled by my Mammy Grin
Enjoyed catch-up with friends (I wore the dress Grin) and going to visit another friend and her new baby this evening.
No flying on the cards for me! But I'll be back to post up the links later on!

superfluouscurves · 06/05/2013 16:03

Don't worry Castle - you can always rely on me to under-perform - have hardly done any of it Grin !!!!

Friend popped around for spontaneous visit this morning, great to see her, put world to rights.

Five mins after she had left, dh came home for a break and I somehow found myself eating a much more substantial lunch than planned Blush

Then phoned my sister (it was her birthday yesterday and I only managed quick call from countryside so had longer natter today)

Then I, er, watched Badminton ...

Blush Blush Blush

And it was a 'back to work' day here because we already had our public holiday last Wed!!

Blush again

In between have managed to load and unload dishwasher, put on two loads of washing and er, not much else!!

It was good though Smile!!
