Welcome to the May Fledgling FLYers thread! :-)
... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent.

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on. Thanks to SC, Blue, Silvery and Goth for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Been ill, done nothing since Friday. DH was a star yesterday and did a grand job of sweeping and cleaning the ground floor. (Having a DH with OCD tendencies certainly has its advantages! Wink )

Maybe today I will manage a sweep of the top floor - DS and DD4 are responsible for middle floor as this is their rooms.

It's too hot to be ill!!! I feel exhausted just being awake at the moment.

superfluouscurves · 15/05/2013 07:46

Thanks Castle I'm totally fine now thanks, but dd is still ailing [doc this pm] You are doing a great job of links/round-ups btw!

Oh no, poor you PA, that sounds grim, hope you recover quickly. Take it steady x

[Brew] for Pushme to help with after-effects of late night EIA!

Hope everyone else OK. It's my birthday today, so am up with a lark trying to finish office admin and put this house in to some sort of order so I can justify watching racing from York this afternoon Wink. Usually, really, really enjoy birthdays but this is a bit of a low key event tbh (a) because dh away (flying back today but anticipate him being fairly grumpy with fatigue on arrival) (b) dd still lethargic/has laryngitis-type thing (c) it's a fairly horrific one before a major significant one ifyswim which means I only have twelve mths left in which to fulfil 903 lifelong dreams Shock Had better get a move on Wink...

Ta da:
morning routine, inc s&s, wm, dw, rabbits
cut swathes of lilac for house, slip on wet grass, land heavily on bum Grin

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/05/2013 10:02

Apologies for going AWOL again, I seem to have been absent more than present recently, but I am still lurking and trying to keep up with the Flying.

Happy Birthday SC!

Feet - what a pain about the SATS. DD has hers next week too, and it is all very low key now at our school, I doubt I would even know it was happening if there weren't a few attitude problems that her teacher is desperate to iron out in time for next week.

Welcome to all the new people!

I must go and get on. Giving blood this afternoon and it always wipes me out so I want to get ahead and not have too much to do this evening, especially as I have got to take the DCs for haircuts after school, get DD to Brownies and back and DH is going to be out.

I tell you what, my DH has turned over such a new leaf these last 6 months. We've had "words" on a few occasions which got as far as me telling him I couldn't carry on the way things are and he seems to have finally taken it on board, he is being much more pro-active about doing his share without being nagged and just being a lot tidier. He used to leave clean and dirty clothes all over the floor, dirty cups and plates in the lounge, piles of receipts and change everywhere, his swimming bag in the corner of the hall for weeks, now he is much, much better. He still leaves it all but he does sort it within the day, rather than leaving it indefinitely, such an improvement.

PositiveAttitude · 15/05/2013 10:46

HAPPY BIRTHDAY SC Thanks

Having the mother of all storms here for the past 2 hours!!! Literally house shaking! Of course, the kitchen is now flooded so I cant cook tea. Hmm Not too sure what to do and how to get around the issue. Need to find an answer quick as this is just the start of rainy season, so plenty more days like today ahead!

BlueEyeshadow · 15/05/2013 16:52

Anyone know what's reasonable to pay for a double oven clean?

newbiebaby · 15/05/2013 17:30

SilveryMoon · 15/05/2013 21:44

Evening all.
Not read the thread, but will do now.
Happy birthday sc Flowers
I had to do a cross-zone job today. Cleared out the food cupboard in the kitchen because there was a terrible smell coming from there Blush I found a bag of potatoes behind some cereal boxes that was all swollen, wet and growing god knows what Blush Blush which means during kitchen week, I can have a session back in the boys bedroom I suppose.

Just settling down now with a blanket a bottle glass of Wine and a pack of chocolate biscuits, waiting for Grey's Anatomy.

SilveryMoon · 15/05/2013 21:51

BON ANNIVERSAIRE SC!!!!
Hope you are having a lovely day, that you got to see the racing, and that the Thai was yummy!!!
Have a movie recommendation for you - presuming you've seen Sea Biscuit, you have to see Secretariat! It's another horse racing movie - you will LOVE it! Just filmed in the last couple of years but I think it went straight to DVD. Is excellent!

Thanks for all the birthday wishes everyone! Much appreciated Smile!! [Pours a few snifters ... declares naughty corner bar "open"!]

Crikey PA you really are battling the elements - hope all OK - and that you are feeling better

Good luck tomorrow Narky! Knock 'em dead!

Silvery that reminds me of the time I had the dubious pleasure of staying at the in-laws London house when they weren't there - heard a loud buzzing sound coming from a kitchen drawer - found unopened plastic bag of putrid, suppurating potatoes with cloud of flies inside fighting trying to get out... [yeeeuurrrrkkkk!]

Well done for giving blood Whoknows - hope you don't feel too wiped out. Great to hear about your dh getting on board!!

You may not be Flying but your list is an extremely energetic one Blue!

Big wing flaps to Bitchy Castle Newbie and everyone else!

superfluouscurves · 15/05/2013 22:23

xposts Castle - thank you/merci/dank u wel - you beat me to the bar!!

Cheers everyone! Grin [slurp] [hic]

Wine Wine Wine

[Thanks for film recommendations - have been meaning to watch Seabiscuit but have never got around to it - must do so! Will definitely get hold of Secretariat too. (No doubt the story of 'Black Caviar' will be featured in a DVD soon!) Have had my nose buried in a few racing biogs that dsis bought me for my b'day : Dickie Hughes, Paul Nicholls, AP of course but by far the best of all is Ruby's!!! ]

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 15/05/2013 22:47

Evening all,

Ipad still won't load this thread, so a quick post on the main computer before I disappear upstairs.

Ta-da!

Morning routine / school run including pass on an unwanted item via FB selling pages plus stay to help with reading.
Home and two loads of washing, few bits of email admin etc MN
Bagged up 5 carrier bags of stuff to take to charity shop
Put some large empty storage boxes (the contents of which have been decluttered) into the loft
Into town with my charity shop stuff
Get key cut (been on to do list for 3 years) Blush
Buy small plastic storage boxes for DCs craft stuff
Give blood - went fine BTW but has left me tired
Little potter round the charity shops (I love to collect things, but this goes against the decluttering principles, however I have been inspired to start a button collection by a thread on MN and am now happily poking round charity shops and buying tiny bags of buttons)
Home and start sorting craft stuff
School run
Back into town with DCs to get their hair cut (never easy)
Home and make dinner
Take DD to Brownies
Supervise DS (9) creating a Powerpoint presentation for school and realise he knows at least as much about PP as me
Fetch DD back from Brownies
DCs bath and hairwash and bed
Watch the Apprentice and do a bit of crocheting

Off to bed now. PA - hope the storm has abated. Silvery - yes, helpful DH definitely makes life easier and a bit more harmonious too.

PositiveAttitude · 16/05/2013 00:06

Is it too late to join the party in the naughty corner? 6am here and just surfacing for the day.

Thanks for all your good wishes, one and all, I am definitely feeling better, sun is shining again and kitchen is once again useable. I need to get in their before today's rains and move a load of stuff that was sodden yesterday and find new drier places for it to live. I think I need an inside kitchen for when it rains and an outside kitchen for when it is so hot. Or maybe I just need to time my cooking better.

Language study in a bit, then day off. Might see if I can have a hair wash and head massage, which is soooooo relaxing and I nearly fall asleep each time i have had t done.

1 load of washing in.
not too sure what else I might accomplish today, cant get my brain around it yet, i will see how it pans out....

Huge flap of wings to everyone.

Castlelough · 16/05/2013 00:12

I'm sorry but I will have to put the links up in the morning. Am back on the phone, and can NOT get the laptop connected to internet. Apologies!

Having a sucky day so far; feeling a bit under the weather (just want to go back to bed really).

Need to tackle washing mountain again before it crashes and smothers the dust bunnies in the carpet. Grin

If I haven't posted again by lunchtime, can you send a rescue party with full climbing kit or coffee and hobnob biscuits?

fireandblood · 16/05/2013 08:36
