Welcome to the May Fledgling FLYers thread! :-)
... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent.

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on. Thanks to SC, Blue, Silvery and Goth for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Morning! In survival mode here. After loads of short school holidays, C is off school with unfortunately timed sore throat/fever/lethargy (thought she was putting it on to avoid homework debacle but turns out she is really ill) and I have same thing. Really worried about the work she will be missing. DH in Middle East. Longing to get back to "normal" routine as mid-May approaches as summer holidays start end of June here, so not much time left to sort house. Oh well....

A warm welcome back to Engels and Feetheart

I was wondering how the HOly Communion event went Castle - well done!

Glad your sil is feeling a bit stronger Narky

Better drag myself down to the laundry and start sorting the smalls. Have a good week everyone!

Jdub · 13/05/2013 13:08

Afternoon! Better late than never!!!
Am at work for a rest after quite a bumpy weekend - lots of shouty argumentative kids (and me) At least here, I don't have to keep saying 'STOP IT' in ever increasing volume increments!

It also occurred to me on my journey in, that there was only one moment over the weekend where everything WAS actually in order, washing away, appropriate storage available for toys etc, quite a clean house, ya da ya da ya da! Then, once the dry washing was brought in off the line to be sorted, the balance shifted, and boom!

Have the dentist later, so at least I have a comfy lie-down to look forward to!
Have a productive day x

kayz12 · 13/05/2013 14:41

Hi ladies

Can I join pretty please! Need something to motivate me keeping up with flylady and the website but this way looks to be simpler to follow than a hundred emails a day!! I have a 1 year old and 3 year old and work nightshift 3 nights a week and only time I get peace is when my 3 year old is at nursery like now and 1 year old having afternoon nap. I always say I am going to catch up at night when they are in their beds but always exhausted and cant move from couch.

So far today I have

  • shined sink
  • put clothes away from tons of washing that miltobe and own mum did over weekend while oh was on a stag and me at work - bonus
  • decluttered bathroom and ensuite
(i was out all morning at a babyclass and dropping something off in car to oh work)

made lunch

still to do
home blessing mainly living room as have a wedding dj coming this evening to speak to us as he also does master of ceremonies so need to look half decent.
pick 3 yo up
mop downstairs bathroom and clean
make spag carbonara

Watch Game of Thrones and Drink wine :)

only got 20 mins til pick up so better have quick blessing!!!!

superfluouscurves · 13/05/2013 16:27

A warm welcome to Kayz12! Sounds like you have a lot on your plate combining night shifts and young 'uns - no wonder you are tired - looks like you have made a v. good start though!

superfluouscurves · 13/05/2013 16:29

Sorry - forgot to wave to jdub

Congrats on your orderly house (even if it was invaded by laundry later!) - good luck at the dentist!

Good to see you feet sounds mental!
Hope you and dd are ok sc
Kayz12 welcome Grin This way is much simpler! As useful as the FLYlady site is, it can be a bit confusing and the e-mails are definitely too much!

Bloody horrid day at work. I really will blow my top with that prick I?m working with this year. They better not put me with him next year, I really will have something to say about that. Only about 9 weeks left, hoping to be able to keep my mouth shut.

Hello everyone
Quick post from me as off to bed -

looked after the 'chickenpox two' all day so ltd flying achieved, just got back from much needed band practice, lovely to get out of the house!

Loving this thread, very supportive so thank you

See you in the morning

CHBitchy · 13/05/2013 23:55

Clearly not Silvery. Only just now about to head to bed. Another stupid early start tomo.

DorisShutt · 14/05/2013 06:18

No personals today as im on my phone, but hi to new people and wing flaps to old!

Fidnt get back on yesterday as my day pretty much sucked - apart from the arrival of DF.

Turns out DS, in playing in DH's car while we unpacked the shopping on Sunday, left the headlights on. Cue flat battery yesterday with the ensuing crap due to DS having to get to nursery and me having to et to work. Still, DH managed to source a new battery and fitted it last night. Hopefully it will work, if not, he'll take my car as we're not really needing it today. Oh, and then I had a 4 hour budget meeting at work yesterday Hmm Definitely not the most fun ever!

DF is only here today, so flying will be on hold apart from the usual tidying up after meals etc.

Hope you all have good days!

pushmepullyou · 14/05/2013 06:42

Morning all
Just jumping back nn before I lose motivation!
Absolutely knackered - too much work and no sleep. House is slipping but work is slipping further so I'm going to keep the list small and (hopefully) manageable today!

To do
Put away washing
Declutter bathroom
Declutter ensuite
Mop kitchen floor

CHBitchy · 14/05/2013 06:46

Urgh it all fell apart last night. Didn't end up hitting bed until nearly 2am in the end. Any day where you are running late before 6am is a bad day!!!

feetheart · 14/05/2013 07:09

Morning all - welcome to new people. It does work, honest. I might have been here since nearly the beginning and not yet have a show home but I know what I have to do to keep it 'reasonable' and where to start when it all goes belly-up and the chat on here keeps me sane :)

Busy week again this week as we I try to pack for camping holiday on Saturday. Unfortunately DS and I have to come back Mon-Fri as we found out last Friday afternoon during a polite 'we aren't going to be here the week before half-term' chat with his teacher that he has his Yr2 SATS that week. It's a complete bummer and although I hate the whole testing regime with a passion the Head is very focused on raising standards at school and has done a great job so far. However I know she won't have any flexibility re DS and his SATS and us taking him out anyway would ruin any relationship with her (and we have over 4 years to go here) so against my better judgment DS and I will be here :( We will head back Friday lunchtime and have until Bank Holiday Monday but it really won't be the same. Am now planning lots of nice things for DS and I to do during the week to make us feel better.

So today:

  • All up and out
  • Morning routine
  • Shopping for surrogate granny up the road
  • WORK
  • Contact insurance people re event and see what's going on
  • Contact Building Regs people to see if they got the details I sent
  • Re-plan dinner as DD has friend over
  • Reading at school
  • DS and DH to Beavers
  • Ironing

That's more than enough and even includes some Flying. Let's see how I get on though :)

Have a good day everyone.

fireandblood · 14/05/2013 09:00

Morning! Definitly going to make an effort to check in here every day and writing my own wee list on here helps!

To do

  • Kids washed and dress
  • put wash on and dryer on
  • make beds (dp in bed when we got up) need to get in habit before going downstairs though
  • put clothes away
  • 15 mins cleaning in bathroom
  • declutter downstairs toilet of shoes
  • hoover upstairs
  • write list of needs for bathroom products
  • plan dinner

ds 3 first sports day today so will be going to that all afternoon and dp has half day from work to come with us.

Trazzletoes · 14/05/2013 09:22

DD is back at nursery after the chicken pox scare.. . DS took it upon himself to start re-toilet training yesterday evening. It's great and I'm delighted but he still can't walk so manoeuvring pull ups off a 17kg child who won't bear weight on his legs is no mean feat!

DM is entertaining him today and so my focus is tidying the playroom (still after the horror of last week's play date!!!). Phew. Might try to throw out old smellies in the bathroom too.

Trazzletoes · 14/05/2013 09:22

Oh and laundry reboot Blush

GoingGoingGoth · 14/05/2013 10:27

Right there with you on the running late before 6am bitchy. Had to stop on the way to work for a double espresso! My team are all equally grey as well.

Not much to announce ta da wise but have managed routines, including catching up on the bits I missed last night all of them

Going to throw away the empties in the bathroom on the way to bed and try to get a reasonably early night. Got an ecological impact assessment for a wind scheme to write first though so I'd better crack on

Tired wave to all Smile
