Welcome to the May Fledgling FLYers thread! :-)
... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent.

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on. Thanks to SC, Blue, Silvery and Goth for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

Castle - it's going well! The fast days are a little tough still (they supposedly get easier), but knowing I can eat/snack on whatever I want the next day makes it a lot easier. The scales have been kind!! Smile

pushmepullyou · 08/05/2013 23:35

I have a small ta da list...
Ta da
Pay in cheque
Routines
Make tea
phone dentist
pay nursery

Haven't managed the tip and cba to clean the base boards because meh, life is too short!

trazzles many preschoolers sounds horrendous - we have had our fair share of playdates here and you have my sympathy (and Wine )

ellie you're keeping me on track - I'm determined not to immediately lapse again this time Grin. Babysteps right?

Hello to everyone else - started writing this about 2 hours ago and just realised I didn't post it and now it's time to go to bed Blush

PositiveAttitude · 08/05/2013 23:55

Trazzles & Newbie - playdates get better when your children are 20 years old and have their own home to have them in!!! Wink

CHBitchy · 09/05/2013 06:32

It is incredibly hard to get anything done when you have no power supply. Essential works apparently. Early start here to compensate and I have already managed to get a pin stuck in my finger right by the underside of the nail. :( Long long list of stuff to do and insane day. Am ignoring rl in favour of a ta da list today. Everything else can go to hell and preferably stay there but it wont

NarkyNamechanger · 09/05/2013 06:41

:) good morning!

Sorry to hear about the power cut bitchy That would also be a nightmare in our house.

Thursdays are my favourite day so happy it's here :)

DH is off and I'm only working until 12pm so we might go for a lazy lunch with dd.
Waiting for an email from a potential client which looks poke a perfect job for me- wish me luck :)
Must wash our bedding today- it's going to start growing legs soon. Yuk!
On a happier note, my crap sleeping 2yo slept through until 6am this morning :)

Have a lovely day, BBL.

pushmepullyou · 09/05/2013 07:30

Morning Smile
Todays list will be mostly the undone bits of yesterdays list!

Plus a bit of exercise if I get round to it! And return the boots that don't fit!

Diet day today and I'm already hungry!

CHBitchy · 09/05/2013 08:08

ta da
2nd load of washing on
label 2 entire sets of clothes, a face cloth, a hand towel, dressing gown, pjs and animal
accidentally stick pin into leg
drink far too much coffee for before 7am
pack ds' bag
consider plans for the day.

DorisShutt · 09/05/2013 08:15

Today I'm mostly going to be mainlining coffee... DS had a brilliant day at nursery; ran about like a dervish and ate like a horse, and was knackered at bedtime - but then woke in the night and wouldn't go back without me. And he was HOT, I suspect he may have got a bit too much sun as he was moaning about a headache - I think I may have to ensure he has a hat with him at all times. Either way, I am shattered and tempted just to tell the flying to f... lutter off Wink

However, it is a glorious day today (the last forecasted for a while) so I'm tackling more of washing mountain.

I also need to gag my DS as he's on an "I want" day - and it's driving me nuts. "Wanna go outside", "wanna play playdoh", "wanna help mummy work"... all on a repeat and every 5 seconds... Hmm

BBL with possibly a ta-da list...

MrsBodger · 09/05/2013 09:24

Hi - lots of people saying good things about the Flylady site, so I've just signed up and I am a bit . . . confused. I get the cleaning the sink bit, but after that, all these zones and launch pads and babysteps, not to mention the 12 inspirational emails a day - I'm more likely to end up lying in a darkened room with an ice pack on my head than doing anything useful. Please can one of you lovely people help me to make sense of it?

LPlateFlyer · 09/05/2013 11:51

Ignore the site MrsB - and just follow our illustrious leader's posts with the relevant links. (If you have them highlighted in green it makes it even easier!)

A bit of a fly fail this morning -

tada
unload and reload the dishwasher
fed and water DSs
school and nursery run
get to work

Washing has been ignored, not much other tidying up done.

Today is a fast day which actually makes the mornings go easier because I just rush around and avoid eating!! Grin (Although only having 1 day gap between the 2 fast days isn't nice, much prefer the 2 day gap but thanks to the Bank Holiday couldn't/wouldn't do it.)

Time for some light lunch though, as my stomach is growing at me.

SilveryMoon · 09/05/2013 12:11

I am in serious danger of nutting some cunt.
That is all for now.

BlueEyeshadow · 09/05/2013 12:24

MrsB if you've subscribed to the emails its probably best for your sanity to unsubcribe again (although some people like them).

As LPlate says, all the links you need are on the thread. If you're just starting out, the idea is to start with the baby steps which will then build up into a daily routine. There are quite a few rubbish ones so it should be quite easy to catch up for this month if you want to.

PositiveAttitude · 09/05/2013 12:31

Mrs Bodger - de-register from receiving the emails!!! You will be in-undated and lost under the mountain of them!! Come and join us here. To start with, join in the baby steps and probably ignore the rest and as time goes by and you get more of a routine you can browse through the other links and see what you want to do. Babysteps is the way to go!!! Welcome here. We do a lot more chat than housework, by the way!!!

Silvery are you morphing into Bitchy Your post confused me!!

massive storm here for the past 2 hours! Lovely!!

You should all be proud of me today. I was really brave and spoke to our lodgers about the fact that they leave so much stuff lying around for me to clean up. It was ok when the cleaner was coming in, but now we dont have a cleaner I am NOT, NOT, NOT, under any circumstances prepared to clean up their mess!!!! A marked improvement today has been noted, but still not perfect - ie: baking tray left for me to clean from lunch time. DH said I should have left it for them, but I needed to use it for our tea. I so need a new cleaner!!!

Ironing pile is still glaring at me. - it started raining just as I was about to start it - HONEST!!! and I can't iron in the rain cos rain pours through on the electrics, and I dont fancy frying myself for the sake of a few creases.

CHBitchy · 09/05/2013 12:50

Silvery's post is simple. Shit is kicking off at work and she is venting here instead of carrying out action mentioned in post.

I need to go deal with rl. I don't want to. :(

CHBitchy · 09/05/2013 12:50

Oh and there is cake in the naughty corner.

newbiebaby · 09/05/2013 14:58

Chickenpox beginning to wear us all down, poor dd is covered!
Have managed to bake cakes with her and look after her and ds but not much flying other than a swish/swipe this morning, hope tomorrow get more done when they're both in bed and then have a Wine

newbiebaby · 09/05/2013 14:58

To not tomorrow!

Engelsemama · 09/05/2013 15:05

A flying wing flap from windy Kent. Over for a long weekend visiting family. Looking at my DM's house I don't think she has read the FL book I got her last year...but then I don't suppose my house looks like FL's either right now Wink

castle good on you for getting yourself to GP. I'm also the type of person who leaves things for too long, ignoring them or hoping they will go away. On that note I think I should follow your lead and go and see my GP about PMT whihc has been horrendous the last 4 months. At the beginning of this week I was filled with rage at everything - DH, bread rolls, colleagues, students, drivers. I just wanted to SHOUT and ROAR very loudly at anyone and everyone. And that's not me Blush Still, I can empathise with Silvery's sentiments today!

trazzles as someone struggling at the moment with one toddler I am dreading the day I have to entertain other people's children especially since it will most likely be in Dutch so they will laugh and point at me

PA Well done. I am indeed very proud of you Grin

sc your garden sounds lovely (apart from rabbit fight obviously)

LPlateFlyer · 09/05/2013 15:25
SilveryMoon · 09/05/2013 16:38

Thanks bitchy Yes, was at work, on a quick fag break and just needed to get that comment off my chest before I said that to him!
All very boring just pissed off with it all.

Guess what I've just done? The weekly shopping! Am trying to jump in the daily focus stuff. Go me!
Bbl

NarkyNamechanger · 09/05/2013 21:06

Had some really sad news so all flying halted :(

My SIL/closest friend has had a miscarriage :( I just feel so so sad.

ToffeeWhirl · 09/05/2013 21:17

Really sorry to hear that, Narky. Sad

Castlelough · 09/05/2013 21:22

Just dropping by with the links for tomorrow! Am just home, after having a lovely dinner at DMil's Smile.
Have to do a serious amount of piano practise tonight Shock as I am accompanying the school choir for the First Holy Communion on Sunday. Tomorrow is our last rehearsal and I have left all the hard work til the last minute. It's my third year doing it, but I still find I have to practise really hard coming up to it (Am only on Grade 4...) Anyway I was pretty rubbish at today's practice so I must get on to it RIGHT NOW!!!
Apologies for the lack of a round-up. Castle xxx

Hi all, I need to get flying again, so marking my place for some inspiration.

Castlelough · 09/05/2013 21:26

Narky I've just spotted your message. Am sorry about the sad news. Just be there for her, let her talk whenever she is ready and whatever you do don't say 'the baby mustn't have been healthy/you're better off'. Somebody said that to me and it was just the worst Flowers
