Welcome to the May Fledgling FLYers thread! :-)
... where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of and chatting along the way.

This little-and-often system is designed so that we can follow a series of steps and routines each day (which gradually become second nature) in weekly designated zones of the house; defining and minimising housework - which in theory should leave us with more time to do other, more interesting things instead!

At the same time it is intended to reduce that panicky "rabbit in headlights" feeling we get when we are overwhelmed and everything needs doing all at once.

To avoid being inundated with details, we advise not signing up to the Big Tent.

We are in the process of following Flylady's steps and routines using a three-pronged approach (dependent on the stage everyone is at):

  • start or repeat baby steps
  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone
  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.
[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

Flylady site is here

Don't worry if you are behind; just jump right back in and it will all come around next month again anyway!

All the links for the babysteps and missions will be posted here every day and we'll all be here to cheer each other on. Thanks to SC, Blue, Silvery and Goth for leading us through since January and for the brilliant OP I've just cut and pasted.

NarkyNamechanger · 09/05/2013 21:47

We've had a chat and I let her do most of the talking. She said she felt better at the end and her and BIL had decided 'it wasn't meant to be'. (Her words I didn't say a lot at all). She seems relatively ok but will see her tomorrow and I'm sure we'll have a cry. It's a very much wanted first baby so they want to start trying again ASAP.

BlueEyeshadow · 09/05/2013 22:08

Sorry to hear that Narky

Engelse, hope you enjoy your weekend.

LPlate sorry if stating the bleeding obvious, but have you got calomine cream? Didn't know it existed till DS1 had the pox last year and it's wonderful stuff.

Ta da!
Laundry done, dry and away
Wiped kitchen counters, cupboards and appliances
Errands day
Got new box to store cleaning stuff in the bathroom :)

To do
Have strong words with DS1's teacher. He brought home a book about Aliens & UFOs and was reading it in bed then called out because he was scared. It's got stills from Aliens and Predator in it. He's 6. Angry and also Angry at myself for not checking it out first.

SilveryMoon · 10/05/2013 04:15

Narky so sorry to hear about your friend.
I lost my first and second and forth. The first was awful, made me feel like my body wasn't able to do what it was supposed to do, what it was designed for. I was quite young. 19/20 I think. It sent me into a phase of having little respect for my body and going through a few years of living with lose morals iykwim.
Nothing anyone says will help I'm sure. Just follow her lead like you're already doing.

pushmepullyou · 10/05/2013 07:19

Sorry to hear about your friend too narky. I've had a couple of mcs myself and it's so upsetting.

Mamaged most of my to do list yesterday except returning my boots. Plus a very full on day at work so I'm fairly happy. Big fail on the diet day though so I'm going to have to do it today instead

To do
Return boots
Exercise
Lots of paid work!
Some other stuff I can't think of!

Bbl Smile

newbiebaby · 10/05/2013 07:33

DorisShutt · 10/05/2013 09:01

Sorry for your friends loss Narky.

I've lost 8lb!!!!!!!! Grin

Today my list is:
Work
Doctor for DS who has an inexplicable rash; suspect it's viral, but who knows.
Supermarket (if DS is not contagious)
Die in the corner as I didn't sleep well last night.

Really need to do a blitz on the living room, but will probably do it tomorrow when DS is (hopefully, rash dependent) out at a party.

LPlateFlyer · 10/05/2013 10:18

Narky - so sorry to hear about your friend. Can't imagine what it would have been like with a first pregnancy. I had it with my 2nd, and it was crap going through it then.

Newbie - put some oatmeal in a sock/stocking end, tie a knot and pop it into the bath. Squish it around so the bath goes creamy, and rub it over the skin as well. It's very soothing and healing. My DS's had lots of fun rubbing it on themselves!

Doris - well done! The 5:2 diet really seems to work, doesn't it!

Since my first weigh in Monday 5/5 I've lost 8.5 pounds. So blooming chuffed. Had gained 12 pounds since I hurt my ankle - another few weeks and I should be back to pre-injury weight, which is my first goal.

LPlateFlyer · 10/05/2013 10:20

Oops - completely forgot to put my flying in!!! Blush

Tada:
DSs fed and watered
school/nursery run

pretty pathetic, really.

To do:
Decluttering!

Watched the hoarder show on tv and it inspired me to start ditching stuff.

FoundAChopinLizt · 10/05/2013 10:33

So far

Washing on
Dishwasher on
School run
Mini shop
Dog walk

Now
1/2 hr in dd2s room-sleepover friend coming
Main bathroom quick clean
15min declutter
Bake
Admin jobs

BlueEyeshadow · 10/05/2013 11:00

Well done Doris! :)

newbie Is it the lotion or the cream? The cream is much nicer. I presume you know all the tips about oat baths and suchlike.

superfluouscurves · 10/05/2013 11:34

Hello (still confused by name changers [thick as two short planks emoticon]).

A warm welcome to MrsBodger

and hello again to NarkyNamechanger and FoundachopinLizt (sorry - not sure who you are - but assuming not newcomers!!) Welcome back!! Smile

Hope everyone OK. Yet another public holiday yesterday which was spent very pleasantly going over to friends for lunch - only did a couple of loads of washing and a bit of rabbit maintenance rest of day so hardly taxing. Felt so tired I almost felt ill afterwards though. I've no idea why. Have woken up feeling the same but dd's school is closed for another day - and cleaner has cancelled at last minute (for nth time - sigh) so had better try and dig up some energy from somewhere.

Ta da:
morning routine inc wm, dw, rabbits, s&s
hwk supervision
tidied up kitchen

To do:
take dd out
clean ground floor and bathroom

I'm sorry your friend is going through such a rotten time Narky It's good that she has a friend like you to confide in.

Congratulations on the weight loss Lplate and Doris - you've both done brilliantly well!!! [SC stares at weighing scales guiltily]

Lplate your former nanny sounds lovely (and v. efficient!)
Doris hope your ds's temp has come down

Sorry you've been having such a rough time with PMT Engels - hope you can get it sorted. In the meantime - enjoy your sojourn in Blighty!!

[delivers crate of Dettol anti-bac spray to Trazzles in case of further play dates]

Newbie - your poor dd!

Ellie hope you have a well deserved rest at the caravan!

Castle buns should really be spayed because they are at risk of getting uterine cancer aged 4 if not (and it would settle their behaviour) but it is not routinely done here and I am reluctant to risk them being operated on by a vet who hasn't had experience with such a big operation. Think the long journey to UK would stress them out horribly. So still searching ... Happily, they seem OK again today - I'm checking them on a more regular basis than normal - and they are stretched out, content, and just look up as if to say "what's all the fuss then?". Good luck with the piano practice! HOpe it all goes well on Sunday!

Big wing flaps to anyone I've missed (loads of people - sorry!). Had better go and pretend to look lively even if I feel a 100

newbiebaby · 10/05/2013 13:05

Ok not flying related but has anyone any idea how I can persuade my poorly dd to let me put calamine lotion on her? Shes three and absolutely covered in pox and so uncomfortable :( but she refuses to have it put on

newbiebaby · 10/05/2013 13:06

Oops x post that'll teach me not to scroll back thanks for all your fab suggestions

BlueEyeshadow · 10/05/2013 13:53

newbie my 3yo DS2 is amenable to the idea that we can do things (hair washing, taking medicine, having cream on etc) the nice way, where he lets me get on with it and it's soon over and done with, or the nasty way, where I have to wrestle with him about it and everything takes longer and is much harder for everyone...

LPlateFlyer · 10/05/2013 15:00

Newbie - could you turn it into a game? Give her a paint brush and she can play 'join the dots' with it? Turn her into an alien with pink spots and put her hair up into a weird pointy thing or something. Count them as you do it, and see if she can count with you?

The cream is better, the lotion leaves it feeling a bit funny from memory.

CHBitchy · 10/05/2013 15:33

cream is also better if you have a child allergic to milk as there is milk in the lotion.

FoundAChopinLizt · 10/05/2013 16:03

This thread works, I've got more done today than normal. I just need motivation and I'm quite efficient once I get going.

DorisShutt · 10/05/2013 17:11

Well, I managed everything on my list, except dying in the corner. Work came up with an ask for that. Still, at least it's more overtime.

Waiting on BIL to let us know whether he got a job or not today, so I can't settle until I hear - I keep checking my phone, so DS is getting quite annoyed.

DS' temperature has gone, so it's definitely a viral thing we think, but the GP is happy he's not contagious so I'll get peace for a haircut tomorrow while DH take him to his party.

On the downside, I have a slow puncture so we're off to a tyre place tomorrow to get it sorted; we do have a kwik fit in the town, but they're useless (they stripped the locking wheel nuts last time by tightening them with a power thing instead of doing it manually Hmm

Ah well, have a good weekend all - you'll find me in the naughty corner bar if you need me; just poke me if I snore! Wink

Swanhilda · 10/05/2013 18:01

hiya, everyone.
as usual my computer is not functioning...I am using one at swimming pool instead! Where we are not actually swimming, but boys are doing tennis lesson to improve their abysmal hand to eye coordination etc.

Toffee I saw you in in the kitten thread, so sorry that cat has cat flu! What a shock. I was just getting kittens vaccinated today, in advance of their going to homes; I was beginning to wonder whether catflu was invented by vets to get more money, but you have reminded me it is true. Sad. I am loving the kittens, I will be so sad to see them go. It is quitel hard work though, having 7 cats in the house, as you can imagine.

Trazzles I can remember playdates for pre-schoolers as v stressful unless their mums stayed and did loads of fielding.

better go tennis is over and now I have to go to the dreaded secondary quiz night. not looking forward to having to look smartish...

newbiebaby · 10/05/2013 18:26

Thanks everyone took a leaf out of your book blue and she eventually got in the bath lplate she liked the counting too!
Thanks again everyone :)

Argh! Have just been awakened by the sound of a fox wailing barking incessantly outside the bedroom window. He came out on the wrong side of an argument with one of my cats (good boy Ginger Grin). Had to go down and chase fox away though! Such a brazen creature Shock.
