Got a quote for putting Shelves on either side of fireplace

I got a quote of £450 to build bookshelves. (it's not a big room by any means..) It seems quite steep to me. He is using MDF and doing a full sides, base and doing it properly so it fits in with the victorian house. I thought it might be more like £250 so in a bit of shock and wondered if this is a normal quote?

To look like two full length bookcases? Sounds about right to me if materials included.

HeadfirstForHalos · 04/03/2013 13:34

Is that including materials too?

Sounds ok to me too. We paid £750 for MDF cupboards and shelves in two alcoves upstairs - alcoves quite small, but high ceilings.

thank you! I got another builder coming to give me a quote so will go with whoever is lower. I think that includes material.

I'm guessing a decent tradesman would be charging about £150 per day. Once you factor in materials that's probably only 2.5 days labour.

£150 per day = £35k per annum

Not really that much if he has a family to support...
