Start up stairs with a bin bag and go into every room and throw away any rubbish, put washing, towels and cutlery at the top of the stairs.

This will clear some room and then you can boil the kettle for a cup of tea whilst putting a wash on.

When I can't be arsed I set my self a time limit and see how much I can do in 10 minutes.

Do you have boxes etc?

Box up out of season clothes
Pack a suitcase for you (and family?) to live out of for next 2 weeks
Box up remainder clothing as much as you can
Pack books in small boxes otherwise they are too heavy to lift
Put all your important documents in one place
Box up spare bed linen and towels
Box up whatever you can in kitchen that you won't be using in next week

There is much more but that's a start!

We're in the same situation. Need to get packed by Friday. Despite my best efforts everything seems half done, and every room seems like such a tip! Agree with suggestion to start at the top and move down. Have one pile for te bin and another for charity shop. Have you got boxes at least?

Mum2Fergus · 16/02/2013 14:52

Plenty of boxes/bags...though mostly empty lol ok, garden done but for swing and goal nets that DP will do Thu when he is off. Have emptied downstairs loo of everything except loo paper! Its the only place I have to start storing stuff. DS room Ive packed away out of season clothes and packed some stuff in case for first few days. Having some tea now lol ...

Take 3 boxes into a room. One for rubbish, one for charity shop and one to pack.

We didn't empty any drawers - just took the drawers (tidied and decluttered so that we didn't bring any crap with us) out. Removal men loaded drawer carcasses onto the van, slotted the drawers back in then did the same at the other end. They had wardrobe boxes. Clothes still on hangers into the boxes. Unloaded at the New house. Was just a cheap local firm too - not a big posh one!!

Mum2Fergus · 16/02/2013 15:45

Ive got removal firm booked for the actual move, and theyre bringing wardrobe boxes for bulk of clothing so just drawers to do...but its the 4 cupboards of doom that are putting me off making a start ...

Maybe calling them the cupboards of doom isn't helping?? Grin
If you call them "the cupboards of the 'I wondered what I did with that' stuff" do they sound more enticing?

Mum2Fergus · 16/02/2013 16:20

Haha Emandlu...you might have a point there! Not feeling quite so overwhelmed just now...have 3 boxes packed of kitchen stuff, a bag of stuff Im giving to Mum, and a bag of clothes to go to my sis! Enough for today I think, want to have a tidy up in anticipation of viewings tomorrow then I can get back into it Smile
