6year old washing machine- worth paying $100 to renew the warranty?

My zanussi is 6years old and this year it will cost $100 for the warranty. we've been paying it for the last 3year's and have had to call someone out once or twice, always for the same thing (filter).

I am worried as we are in for a tight year with finances. it would be difficult to afford to buy a new machine this year (if it broke). I do one load of washing a day. would you take the risk and go without the warranty?

I'd put the £100 to one side for a cheap second hand machine in case of emergency then I'd keep adding to the fund, even if it was only a £1 here and there.

I would start saving for a new machine.

are you able to remove and clean the filter yourself? It is an owner action on European machines and should be done every few months.

What sort of machine is it?

thanks for the responses!

it's a zanussi aquacycle essential 1200

I will get the manual out and clean the filter.

putting the money aside is a great idea, although risk averse DH is not so sure. I need to decide before I go to bed as it runs out today!

My AEG is 7 years old , last year it broke down and it cost me around half the price of new machine to repair it. It is now making a noise when it spins so I am sure it is on it's way out, but I will buy a new one this time as it is worn out having been used a lot. I would start saving for a new machine if you can ;the filter should be easy to clean, just make sure you put a towel down on the floor when you do it as there will be lots of water. You normally just unsrew them and pull them out quite easily. Quite often you find bra wires and all sorts of things in them. My best find was a gold christening bracelet that we had lost six months before :)
