I keep reading on threads on here about a swish and swipe of the bathroom. I'm just wondering whats the difference between a proper deep clean and a swish and swipe. What do you do when swishing and swiping the bathroom?

It's a flylady term and as far as I know means to clean the towel bowl - swish, and wipe round the sink, toilet and any obvious marks or drips - swipe.

HERE Hope this helps to explain things.

A deep clean for me means doing the tiles, shelves and floor. A swish and a swipe is a quick squirt of cleaner and wiping over the sink, toilet and bath.

It has improved my bathroom no end, it feels and looks clean all the time now in a couple of minutes each or every other day.

You have to clean the tiles? Grin

For me:
Swish and swipe would be a quick whip round the sink (few seconds) with an ecloth, wipe toilet with disposable wipes and put toilet cleaner down and maybe quickly wipe floor tiles. I would expect to be able to do bathroom, ensuite and downstairs loo in 10 mins.
Deep clean would be thorough clean of toilet (dismantle seat - sometimes I soak it in the bath with disinfectant) with very hot water with disinfectant. With rubber gloves give bowl a really thorough scrub. Dry outside and seat etc with ecloth. Ensure sinks have no limescale at all, scrub round taps with old toothbrush, use sponge scourer and cif on bath/sinks/shower, shine with glass ecloth. Clean out all cupboards and wipe down inside and out and top/declutter/improve storage. Wash floors with hot disinfectant water. Dry with ecloth. Ensure no cobwebs/clean lightfittings/wipe window sills. Give any decorations/glasses/soap trays etc a through clean with hot sopey water. This would probably take me a good 45 mins to do bathroom, same for ensuite and about 30 mins for downstairs loo.

Soapy
I usually don't do a deep clean all in one go, I should add - just do parts of it as an when I think they need it.

I'm so rock and roll I try to deep clean my bathroom once a week. After this cup of tea I'll be getting the cream cleanser and hardcore non scratch scrub pad thingy out and giving the shower cubicle a good scrub down inside only. I do this naked then finish with a shower and hairwash. When I get out I will nakedly clean the loo, ledges, sink, chrome radiator, tiles then give the floor a good clean with disposable lemony wipes. Clean bath mat and towels then get put in ready for the week. I clean the sink and loo everyday but the big clean just once a week. I really really hate dirty, dusty, hairy bathrooms and limescaly damp green gross shower cubicles, had a new bathroom last year and trying to keep it in tip top shiny condition.

The short answer to this post is probably: ecoli
Only half joking, i guess its the difference between good or good emough and is also subject to debate. Some of you will feel there is more to life than spotless bathrooms and others will feel theyd rather put in the elbow grease to a avoid potential germ invasion. Most will probably sit somewhere in the middle, me included.
Hope thats useful Smile

Ah right, thats pretty much what i do most days anyway. I normally at some point in the day quickly wipe down the sink and loo seat, and put some toilet duck around the loo rim, then once a week when i have the house to myself (when everyone is at work and school) i don the marrigolds and get the domestos out and clean the bath, sink, loo, and the floor from top to bottom (window left open allday lol)

I do swish and swipe daily, a medium clean weekly (scrub bath and basin plus taps thoroughly, go all round hinges of toilet seat, move everything off vanity and shelf above loo and wipe, mop floor, wash bath mats) then the other deep clean stuff (inside cupboards etc) occasionally when they need it but not all in one go.

HDee · 07/01/2013 23:37

Some people actually remove their toilet seat to clean it? Bloody hell. You wouldn't wanna shit in any of my loos. Only time my loo seat comes off is when replacing it with a new one.

Drywhiteplease · 08/01/2013 20:58

My mil v excited about her removable loo seat !Confused I'm a manic cleaner and had never heard of them.....
