How to get smell out of carpet?

I think it's cat wee. We are in a rented house. The previous tenents said that they had had the carpet profesionally cleaned and we have Vaxed it 6 times! and it still smells in the corners. What do I do?

Sprinkle bi-carb soda on it leave for while then Hoover off.

Whatever you do don't put any kind of perfumed product on it. This will only release the cat wee molecules and create an even worse smell. I agree with bicarb advice. Pile it on and leave for as long as poss before vacuuming.

i agree. cat wee jsut doesn't come out. i'm having to take up and replace the carpet and underlay in my bedroom due to it. nothing has lifted teh smell. you'll also have to clean the floorboards underneath and dry them out before laying new carpet.

The smell should lessen over time. Put some natural pot pourri in the room. It will give it an authentic farmhouse aroma.

again, agree with mutt. and the smell will go through your house. you can smell cat wee as soon as you go through my front door even though i keep my bedroom door closed and have bicarbed and vinegared the spot about 10 times. it happened 2 months ago. smell is as strong as ever and people can smell it when they come in. it's vile. there is nothing farmhouse about it. more ' mad old cat lady' if i'm honest.

Many years ago I left my friend to look after my two cats while I went on holiday. When i returned after 10 days in the sun, I opened my front door to be met with the following...
!0 empty, unwashed catfood tins on the counter, filthy bowls and encrusted spoons welded to the sink, umpteen cat wee's and about a zillion piles of cat shit on the carpets.
She had left all the doors open and it smelled like nothing on earth.
I asked her if sh'd noticed the cats had crapped their arses out all over the floor and she replied she hadn't noticed.

Neatwhite vinegar dabbed on, I've just been informed by my next door neighbour. David.

Booyhoo · 01/01/2013 15:17

WTF! was she living in the house while this was all happening? she sounds like a stinky lazy fucker! is she still your friend? that is just disgusting. how did she think any of that was normal? Confused

GreeenFingers · 01/01/2013 15:24

She wasn't living here no. she only lives around the corner. Her own hose is very, very cluttered and my DD wont go in there as the smell makes her wretch.

Thankyou for the replies. I will try Bicarb. Do you think I should insist the landlord replaces the floor?

Grin at "authentic farmhouse aroma"!

I am a registered childminder though (on maternity leave) and people are not going to pay to send their kids to the crazy cat lady....

GreeenFingers Shock at your friend!
