i reneted a rug doctor last year it worked a treat, i have recently been looking into buying a houshold one rather than rent one again figure it could be more cost effective as realistically id like to be able to do it a few times a year (our home has high traffic) does anyone own one or have some opinions?

Thanks mnet

Rent one. I have a £350 all singing, all dancing, does everything top of the range vax. It's crap

I originally had a vax about 12 years ago then had two children with reflux so bought a Bissell proheat.

For me, it was worth the money as I was constantly cleaning the carpets due to the children being sick all the time. So in the long run it has more than paid for itself against renting one.

I think it honestly comes down to how often you think you will use it. I was forced to use the Bissell so did, but now I don't use it anywhere near as much.

The main part no longer sprays but still sucks up (it has been used and abused for about 7 years) and the hand held bit works. So I tend to use it for spills and the likes rather than a whole room.

Mine was a reconditioned model from Bissell so much cheaper than buying a brand new one and mine was only about 2 months old when I got it, so clearly there had been a fault and someone had returned it.

I have never used a rug doctor so don't know how it compares. But remember they are sold as carpet cleaners not stain removers.
