Help me shrink my kitchen to get a seating bit, so I can sell idea to DH! :0)

Girls I need you! I want a small seating area in my kitchen but can't afford to do an extension.

So, my cunning plan: think outside the box, re shuffle cupboards, reduce size of oversized hob/cooker and fridge (husband!); freeing up a small space at the end of the kitchen for a mini seating area that looks out onto the small garden (my dream!).

I thought if I get a slim dresser I could put that in our dining room, for most of the crockery. So less cupboard space is needed in the kitchen.

I'm open to free standing, unusual, clever storage/space saver kitchen ideas. Desperate to make it work!

So, can you give me any brilliant ideas/websites?

Don't have any recommendations for web-sites etc., but what we found really helpful when re-designing is to cut out scale models (2D) of everything that's there, and add in scale models of what you'd like to have, and then move around on a piece of paper (same scale as models) shaped to represent whatever room(s) you want to play with.

There is always space for the things you'd like!

Tall larder units with pull out drawers are ace for storage

Thorough declutter of crockery, pans and other equipment. I've boxed up loads of stuff we don't use, extra mugs etc and stashed it in garage. Allowed me to clear my counters with cupboard space spare.
Lose the microwave, give up baking, don't eat grains.

Full height pantry cupboards for what you do need is a good idea.

Tall larder units are excellent. Make sure you get a good make though; some fall part/ become wobbly very quickly. Also, get rid of anything you don't use (Note to self too!)

Keep all the dining table crockery, glasses, cutlery etc in the dining room.
Agree tall larder units are wonderful.
Don't have corner units which go around the bend or have things fitted into them, just store lesser used items in the back and stand on a tray so you can drag forward when needed.
You could put the big fridge in the garage, as it is great to have an extra fridge for beers, and for when guests stay/Christmas/parties. (The 'beer fridge' might sell it to your DH!)
Same with any camping gear, or things the children have grown out of, or seasonal picnic items, store them somewhere else.
Keep laundry related things elsewhere, and shoe shining, cleaning equipment and so on. the kitchen is just for food and cooking utensils. that is all. And a lovely seating arrangement just right for you and DH to sit together.

What about one of those tables that attaches to the wall and folds down (sorry can't think what they're called - drop leaf ?) as then your seating area can be more flexible if you need a bit of space.

Thanks for these great ideas! A tall larder unit sounds a good idea as ideally I would like o get rid of the wall cabinets to make the space feel bigger too.

Well, these are really an important suggestions. I bought a 10x10 kitchen cabinets and planning to remodel some part of the kitchen. I am thinking that, I need to change the place of dining table and crockery in the kitchen. I already changed a place but somewhat confused about where to place a crockery. Should I build a new cupboard for this?
