Washing machine number 5 ish has just packed up on me and I need your recommendations please for one that can cope with more than one wash a week

It is a Beko. Didn't buy expensive as use 2 programmes maximum. Every now and then it woudn't empty out all the water and sometimes the clothes were left wetter than they should, but on the whole it was okay. I have asked it to spin 3 times now as the clothes were left soaked and it won't. It says End leading me to believe it has done it's job but nada. There is water in the small gap between the instruction panel and the lid which makes me worry that water is leaking into the main drum where I am sure it shouldn't.

I do about 17 wash loads a week but really don't want to spend a fortune on a fancy pants machine. Any recommendations for what is good, or just as important, a brand or machine to avoid?

Bosch. (Like virtually everyone elseGrin)

I got my Bosch dishwasher from the John Lewis Outlet shop in Swindon, it had minor cosmetic damage to the door hence was reduced by 50%. A splendid result!

Ponders · 01/11/2012 21:02

it does, Mousy - I linked to it it above - manual is for:

WME 7267 W
WME 7267 S
WME 7247 S
WME 7227 S
WME 7227 W
WME 7247 W

OP's machine is WME7227W

Ponders · 01/11/2012 21:04

(oh, was not on the Beko website though - was on manualsonline.com)

50p found.

Machine is washing, doesn't need draining. Isn't spinning. Belt is fine.

Confused.

I have had two Bosch machines and loved them - first one was inherited and only had a half drum so we had to get rid but it lasted years and years. We then had a bigger one which was lovely - I had the service man out once because I accidently activated the toddler lock I didn't know it had - he was lovely and very helpful. We are in rented and now and have to use the machine that is in the flat, my brother has my old machine - I miss it. I could load it the night before and set it to go on in the morning - unload after school run - perfect.

JustFabulous · 01/11/2012 21:10

Yep, in the pump.

50p is now mine. I suspect it was left in DH or DS1's pocket.

but it still won't spin?

that sounds as if pump itself might have packed up. I think with a relatively new machine I would try to get it repaired before shelling out for a new one (though I can understand if you now feel you can't trust it)

dikkertjedap · 01/11/2012 21:33

Definitely a Bosch or if you really want to splash out a Miele. I have my Bosch many years now (10+), it works perfect and I do at a minimum three washes a day, all year round.

MousyMouse · 01/11/2012 21:34

thanks ponders

JustFabulous · 01/11/2012 21:48

Pump is fine. DH thinks it is the motor or the brushes.

It isn't very new but tbh no idea how old as we have had so many machines I lose track.

Bought an LG direct drive 8kg a month ago.
£500 from Currys.

I loves it...

SpringierSpaniel · 02/11/2012 08:30

Have had a hotpoint that lasted 15 years and a Miele currently 9 years old but we are a family of 6 if you count all the elderly incontinent pets combined as one whole person too.

However we don't do anything like the amount of washing you are doing. It appears you are ageing the machine twice as fast as our family would.

It might be worth getting a larger drum machine if you can accomodate it space wise to cut down the number of loads washed or re-think your towels and bedding washing schedule, although if you are a family of 5 children I can see you'd be washing more often than we do.

Sparklingbrook · 02/11/2012 08:33

I have just got a Bosch after our Siemens one packed up after 11 years. It cost £500, and I am very pleased. I think you do get what you pay for in the washing machine stakes

JustFabulous · 02/11/2012 08:53

Bosch - 15 recommendations.
Hotpoint - 2/3.
LG - 5.
Indersit - 1.
John Lewis - 2.
Samsung - 1.
Miele - 2.

Run away winner I think.

I have a Miele - love it. Expensive but had it for 5 years without one single problem. Will see how it manages when the twins arrive next year though!

JustFabulous · 02/11/2012 09:03

DH is amazing!

It is spinning!!!!

My old machine decided when it wanted to spin. Sometimes it did sometimes it didn't. It always spun when the repair man was called Angry. then one day it decided not to drain or spin.

Repair man came out and condemned it, said the control panel was failing. So my washing machine didn't know what it was doing any more. Sad

CarpeJugulum · 02/11/2012 09:11

I'll throw my hoover machine into the mix... I luffs it Grin

Ifancyanewname · 02/11/2012 09:12

what kind of maintenance wash should I be doing? I sometimes put a hot wash on with nothing in to flush it through....what should I be doing and how often?

Nonio · 02/11/2012 09:12

My Mum has just bought a new washer she had her Candy washer for as long as I can remember. She bought a hot point this time I know you don't like them but my point is she also pays £2.40 per month fix or replace insurance.

Sparklingbrook · 02/11/2012 09:13

My nice repair man (who fitted the new machine) said I need to do that just once a month fancy. And to leave the detergent drawer and the door slightly open when not in use.
