Washing machine number 5 ish has just packed up on me and I need your recommendations please for one that can cope with more than one wash a week

It is a Beko. Didn't buy expensive as use 2 programmes maximum. Every now and then it woudn't empty out all the water and sometimes the clothes were left wetter than they should, but on the whole it was okay. I have asked it to spin 3 times now as the clothes were left soaked and it won't. It says End leading me to believe it has done it's job but nada. There is water in the small gap between the instruction panel and the lid which makes me worry that water is leaking into the main drum where I am sure it shouldn't.

I do about 17 wash loads a week but really don't want to spend a fortune on a fancy pants machine. Any recommendations for what is good, or just as important, a brand or machine to avoid?

DH is now home and investigating.

Run a couple of 'drain' programmes, those ones you can run that just empty out the machine. Might be enough to dislodge the blockage. If you google it, there are some good, simple suggestions on how to fix washing machines that don't drain. Don't buy a new one yet!

Glad you are saying you are never having another Hotpoint. My thoughts precisely, after having been suffering for 2 years with a Hotpoint that was broken from day one, but never quite enough to give us a new one by the guarantee office's standards...
Have a Bosch now and do about a load a day and it is wonderful. Have only had it for about 7 months only though, so early days...

FayKnights · 01/11/2012 20:30

LG direct drive here too, it's pricey, but I use it a massive amount as there's 5 of us and so far I'm very pleased with it, we've had it about 2 years.

DontstepontheMomeRaths · 01/11/2012 20:34

I've had my Bosch for 7 years, never had an issue, it's amazing. I do a load every day, sometimes two, it's just me and 2 kids. Actually I tell a lie, I once ordered on espares a new filter and replaced it in 5 mins myself on my Bosch.

My Mum has a Miele and that, although even pricier than Bosch is outstanding.

Sometimes buying a cheap machine is a false economy as you have to repair/ replace it sooner. If you can afford it, buy Bosch or Miele imo.

Wolfiefan · 01/11/2012 20:35

Bosch

MousyMouse · 01/11/2012 20:36

do you still have the manual? it should have instructions how to clean the filter. or give us the model and I will google it for you.

JustFabulous · 01/11/2012 20:38

Can't drain as spin and drain is the same option and that one isn't working.

The model is WME7227W.

Ponders · 01/11/2012 20:41

if it won't drain mechanically then you need to try to do it physically - as someone said earlier, there should be a kickplate on the bottom, which will come off with a small hose behind which you can use to empty the water into a shallow container (eg a roasting tin) - you'd have to do it bit by bit

JustFabulous · 01/11/2012 20:43

There is no water in the machine. Just the clothes are soaked.

I have an LG, seems pretty bomb proof so far (erm...about 3 years so far I think).

Have had a Miele before but not that energy efficient these days, many not even AAA rated, which for the price is shocking.

\link{http://laundry.manualsonline.com/manuals/mfg/beko/wme_7227_w.html?idRes=16490223\this is your manual}

how to drain water is on p 27

if your pump filter is blcked, clearing it might fix it

good luck Smile

I do a load every day in a Bosch washer. I have had it for 9 years and it is still going strong. My previous machine was a Zanussi that lasted for one year with a baby!

AgentProvocateur · 01/11/2012 20:48

How do you all do so many loads?! We are a family of four, and I only do four or five a week! Shock at 21!

AgentProvocateur · 01/11/2012 20:49

Sorry - actually came on to recommend John Lewis and to warn you away from Indesit, before I got distracted by the amount of washing people do.

Tuttutitlookslikerain · 01/11/2012 20:52

I've got a Hotpoint Aqualtis which does an 11kg load. It is brilliant.

We had always had Bosch before, DFIL was a Bosch engineer. But the last one we had only lastd just over 3 years and it cost about£600. FIL stripped it back to fix it and was shocked at the quality of the build, he said they aren't built as well anymore and in his opinion weren't worth the premium. The part we needed was nearly £300 so we scrapped it! Infact when he need a new machine he bought a John Lewis own brand one and thinks it is better made.

drcrab · 01/11/2012 20:52

Bosch. And if you get it from appliances direct website it's free delivery and next day too. Much cheaper than currys etc and even independent shops.

WhereMyMilk · 01/11/2012 20:52

I love my Miele-just love it. Washes fabulously and is on at least twice a day.

MousyMouse · 01/11/2012 20:55

hmm that particular model has no manual online on the beko website. but from the picture it looks like it has a filter door on the bottom right.

JackThePumpkinKing · 01/11/2012 20:55

I don't understand how anybody can only do a handful of loads a week. Surely it's a load of washing per person per week, plus a load of bedding per wash, and load or two of towels?

I am Hmm at the amount of laundry DP generates each week though, somehow it's 3 full loads on our 7kg hotpoint. Grr.

hugoagogo · 01/11/2012 20:56

John lewis own make is brilliant and they do a good warranty.

I would avoid indesit.

MulledWineOnTheBusLady · 01/11/2012 20:57

Our Indesit washer dryer was (I think) about £400 from John Lewis and did 3/4 washes a week for 3 years with no problems. Left it in our previous house still going strong. We bought it cos of good reviews.

I've seen people slate Indesit as a brand before though so perhaps we were just lucky or maybe that one model was ok.

Ponders · 01/11/2012 21:01

the cheaper Bosches are made in Spain now - & judging by the d/w in our holiday house this year, which was not a Bosch but was identical to our cheapy Bosch one at home, they are actually Spanish machines re-badged as Bosch

only the top of the range ones (Logixx) are still made in Germany

our last Bosch washer lasted less than 6 years before needing a very expensive electronic part which wasn't worth it. We replaced it with a Logixx one & have crossed fingers Grin
