So I just spilled wine on my keyboard.

If anyone knows how to clean it, it's you lot.

Its wet and smelly, and dripping though to my desk.

Rice?

LynetteScavo · 08/09/2012 22:07

But the rice will get stuck and I won't be able to press the keys down.

When the keyboards were boring beige I would put them in the dishwasher. Black tends to go a bit grey.

Is it a USB one or wireless (I wouldn't do that with wireless)

LynetteScavo · 09/09/2012 09:54

Hmm..it's black USB. If I can put it in the dishwasher, does that mean I could just rinse it under the tap?

Not really. The dishwasher has a good hot drying cycle. It needs to go on the top rack.

It would also have to be left in the airing cupboard for a couple of days too.The circuitry needs to be completely dry.

All this at your own risk, but I've washed loads in the past!

drink spillages on keyboards: they usually leave sticky deposits when they dry. The professional advice is to immediately rinse throughly under the cold tap, then turn over several times to let water drain out, and stand on end to dry.

If that doesn't work, you can buy a new keyboard for £10 or less.

Don't do this with a laptop.

"Don't do this with a laptop." Grin

It seems to be working OK - I have plenty of beige ones in the garage if I'm desperate. I think this might be a good excuse for a new, quiet, keyboard though.
