i live in private let flat so when i moved in the creamy brown carpets were black ive had them proffesional cleaned now about 3 times in last 3 years but i intend to live here for another few years atleast so are there any decent carpet cleaners out there i can buy that doesnt cost loads of money im sick paying somebody to do it because the carpets get so grubby looking very quickly because they are so worn/ugly

This thread is quite old now so some of the suggestions may be out of date, but if you’ve landed here looking for product recommendations, we’ve recently updated our guide to the best carpet cleaners with lots of options, as tried and tested by Mumsnet users and editors. We hope you find it useful. Flowers

We bought a Vax cleaner last year and it's probably had half-a-dozen outings already in the high-traffic ground floor areas of the house. It's not that cheap, but it is very good, would highly recommend:

we have a reconditioned Bissell
returned to the factory because of a fault fixed by bissell then resold on their site.
It has been a god send! if you look at the bissell website there is a link to the reconditioned ones.. Think we got a £300 on for £99
