Sorry if this has been done to death before but what's the best way to get a urine smell out of a mattress?

I've read a bit on the web and it seems split between soaking the area with hot discinfectant (sp) or using bicarb?

Be great if I could et the smell out without having to throw it out.

What about febreezing and airing it out? I made the horrible mistake of trying to wash a mattress once. It took ages to dry and then left a horrible stain.

vinegar! the clear one.
just spritz it over affected area/s , smells like a chippy for a day or two but dries neutral and somehow takes the urine smell with it.

miraculous!

And when dried then sprinkle bicarbonate....done in the past and also last Friday

Leave it out in direct sunlight. My sofa practically lived outside whilst potty training!

I use Method antibac bathroom cleaner, then wipe over with plain water - worked for me twice (waterproofing moved on bed). Then leave to dry for a day.

Basically disinfects and my mattress doesn't smell of either the cleaner or urine. Doesn't seem to stain the mattress.

Hope this helps.
